The Black Sheep began as a quiet embarrassment buried deep in the Dominion’s bureaucracy. After the Refusal War and the absorption of shattered Clan remnants, the Dominion inherited a steady trickle of warriors who simply didn’t fit anywhere: • Trueborns who failed their Trials but refused to abandon the warrior path • Freeborns who excelled in simulators but cracked under Clan discipline • Bondsmen who were too “Wolf,” too “Ghost Bear,” or too “something else” to be trusted • Warriors whose mechs were damaged beyond standard repair and rebuilt with scavenged parts • Pilots whose tempers, philosophies, or genetics made them “unacceptable” to any frontline Cluster Rather than waste them, a handful of progressive Rasalhagian officers proposed an experiment: create a unit where misfits could fight for the Dominion without the suffocating weight of Clan orthodoxy. The Watch quietly approved it. The Loremaster pretended not to notice. The Khan called it “a kennel for broken dogs.” The warriors embraced the insult and made it their banner.
