Overview:
    Needing to shore up holes in their light 'Mech units, the decision to increase production of
    the Javelin at Jalastar Aerospace on Panpour in their Periphery March helped ensure the
    Federated Suns had effective numbers. It also presented an opportunity to introduce another
    variant of the effective 'Mech. Thus was born the JVN-12D.

Capabilities:
    The JVN-12D Javelin effectively combines many earlier models of this 'Mech into one chassis.
    Twin 5 pack racks of multi-missile launchers backed by a pair of extended range medium
    lasers provide the armament of the design. The missile launchers are provided with three
    full tons of ammunition, allowing the payload to be tailored to the mission at hand. This
    ammunition bay is protected by type II CASE to protect the 'Mech from ammunition explosions.
    
    
    Armor has been increased by 2 tons, creating a protective skin 50% thicker than the original
    model. This allows several locations to withstand large laser and PPC hits when previous
    models would have been breached by these weapons. The front center torso now mounts enough
    armor that even a gauss rifle or clan PPC will not breach it in a single blow.
    
    However, to achieve these feats, mass had to be obtained from somewhere. Although 1.5 tons
    came from switching out the skeleton of the 'Mech for endo-steel bones, the rest came from
    switching the engine to an extra-light model, and the cockpit for a much more cramped
    design. These features make the Javelin-12D harder to pilot and even more vulnerable to
    torso breaches or loss.

Deployment:
    The Armed Forces of the Federated Suns has embraced this new model of the Javelin, and has
    begun deployment of the 'Mech in all light units that can receive it.
