Overview:
    The original MTN-2M Marten was a swan song of advanced technology in FWL. Introduced in
    early 2900's it turned to advanced technology in an attempt to reduce costs of the 6M
    Wolverine by using a smaller chassis. The results were quite spectacular. In spite of being
    10 tons lighter and costing almost 20 % less due to more economic reactor the machine kept
    the overall protection levels and firepower and even increased it's reach. It's career was
    short-lived though. Advanced optics needed for it's state-of-the-art laser armament all but
    disappeared between sabotage and deep raids by the League's enemies. And so the intended
    successor of the mighty Wolverine happened to end up being replaced by the rugged machine it
    should have replaced. Not willing to give up on  chassis that was still serviceable with
    available components the Marten received an extensive redesign and was re-release on the
    battlefields as a close-assault specialist.

Capabilities:
    The 2M Marten packed an array consisting of an ER large laser and medium pulse lasers
    backing a medium-sized SRM rack giving it the overall capabilities of the Wolverine in terms
    of firepower, although the limited heat dissipation system required the pilot to
    bracket-fire the weapons to avoid overheating. Rather than just replacing the weapons with
    their less technologically advanced counterparts the 3M expanded upon the missile array and
    removed all but one of the medium lasers. This weapons suite and overall speed proved to be
    ill-suited for deep raids and reconnaissance, but the missile racks, heavy armour and
    mobility proved particularly useful for flanking maneuvers and sowing disarray to enemy
    formations.

Deployment:
    FWLM usually reserves Martens to fill empty spots in mobile heavy companies if other
    suitable 'Mechs are not available. Since the Marten production is quite limited the MTNs are
    moved about quite often.

Variants:
    Aside from the 2M Marten that actually entered production there was an evolution variant
    planned using even more advanced technologies in spite of the technological decline looming
    ahead. Featuring an XL reactor and meneuverability that should have rivalled the vaunted
    Phoenix Hawk while keeping the savage bite and thick skin of the Marten. Advanced heat
    dissipation unit would have been also required to keep the 'Mech working properly.

    Udo Katz, a second generation Lyran expatriate who is known more for his fiery sermons to
    5th Defenders of Andurien, where he acts as unit's Chaplain, than for exceptional combat
    abilities. Using  his frequent relocation within the unit to monitor morale and disperse
    chastisement and blessings. Although not as widely popular as he imagines himself to be, Udo
    is still a valuable morale asset on the battlefield.
