Overview:
    3057 saw a flurry of 'Mech design programmes on Arc-Royal, led mainly by TharHes Industries
    and Arc-Royal Mechworks. Spurred on by the success of the Nomad Omnimech, TharHes considered
    an advanced 80-ton Assault Mech in the same vein. Designed to stand toe-to-toe with any
    Battlemech in its weight-class or lighter, its heart was to be a General Motors 400-rated XL
    Engine. The design, tentatively named the 'Pershing' after an ancient Terran general,
    proceeded apace until an internal embargo on modern engines implemented by Ryan Steiner
    brought the project to a halt.
    
    In 3058 however, the arrival of Clan Wolf-in-Exile on Arc Royal saw the need for a more
    economical design, to outfit both the growing ARDC military and the dispossessed Wolf
    Mechwarriors who were now their allies. A cooperative effort between Arc-Royal Mechworks and
    TharHes saw a resurrection of the 'Pershing', with an emphasis on locally produced,
    off-the-shelf components married to advanced technology. The selection of surplus Pitban 240
    engines saw the project specification finalized, and development was concluded in early
    3059.

Capabilities:
    Built around the Pitban 240 Standard Engine on a Endo-Steel chassis developed on Arc Royal,
    the Pershing has a cruising speed of 32.4 kph and can reach 54 kph at a run. Though this
    makes it slower than many of its Inner Sphere contemporaries, this is supplemented by a trio
    of Luxor Jump Jets. Capable of jumping 90 meters, it can keep pace with other Battlemechs in
    its weight-class. Clad in 14 and a half tons of Durallex Heavy Armor and both left and right
    torsos protected by CASE ammo bins, the Pershing is a very durable 'mech.
    
    Primary firepower for the Pershing comes from a Poland Gauss Rifle, paired with a Mydron
    LB-10X Autocannon. The two weapons combine superb firepower at extreme distances with low
    heat generation, allowing for a nonstop, one-two punch at long-range as long as its generous
    ammo bays last. These are backed up by a basic, but heavy array of short-range weapons. Four
    Medium-class Lasers and a pair of SRM-4 launchers allow for excellent coverage within 270
    meters. Balanced by an excellent heat-curve the Pershing is a very effective 'mech, able to
    both create heavy breaches in enemy armor and exploit them.

Variants:
    While many Wolf-in-Exile warriors initially scoffed at the 'inferior' quality of the
    Pershing, subsequent simulated trials convinced them of its worth. Having acquired four
    examples of the initial twelve 'mech production run as a gift from Morgan Kell, Wolf
    technicians quickly proceeded to upgrade it with Clantech weapons and CASE. While
    superficially similar to the original Pershing it would be a severe mistake to confuse them,
    as the PRS-2W is even more dangerous than the original.
    
    The Gauss Rifle and autocannon are exchanged for their lighter-weight Clan counterparts,
    freeing the tonnage to upgrade the four Intek lasers to Clan Medium Pulse Lasers. The
    TharHes SRM launchers are similarly replaced by Wolf-produced Streak launchers of the same
    size, while two additional IS double heat sinks maintain the same heat curve. Effective at
    any range, the 'Pershing C' as it is called has already made an impression, with one Wolf
    trueborn relinquishing his Summoner to pilot one of the four.
