Overview:
The King Crab nicknamed "Clam Bake" is a unique machine. One of the few of it's kind to
survive into the 31st Century, it has seen better days, but like any successful warrior that
which did not kill it made it stronger.

Or made a mistake Probably the latter.

The King Crab, both the -000 and the downgraded -000 model date from last decades of the
Star League, and if we're forced to be honest it is a somewhat flawed design. No one can
deny the armour is good. And a pair of Cosara Deathgiver cannons is nothing to laugh at. It
will, if properly used, destroy all but the heaviest mechs in seconds. But the price it pays
is a lack of staying power, thanks to the lack of ammunition for it's primary weapons. It
became known as the executioner of the crippled, letting it's lance mates work over and
distract the enemy while the King Crab closed in and destroyed at point blank range.
Particularly cripples. There are too many reports of King Crab pilots locating Aramis
machines that were down, and either kicking in the cockpits or tapping on them with an
autocannon and then dropping the hammer with the muzzle less than a meter away. Many of the
SLDF had become little different than the organized mad houses that were so many of Aramis'
    units.

Why Clam Bake's pilot stayed behind is unknown. What is known is that that the machine was
rebuilt twice. THe first time was in the few years between the First and Second Succession
Wars, where the -000 specification machine was repaired to what we now call the -0000 model
of King Crab. The second time, the entire left arm was lost. That is when things really
    changed.

The King Crab is known for it's respectable battery of secondary, longer ranged weapons that
in theory allow the King Crab to give itself it's own covering fire during it's advance.
Those were removed when everything rom the left shoulder down was lost. It is unclear if at
this time the right arm's Deathgiver was replaced an Imperator-D, or if that had happened
during the first overhaul, but the ammunition tank for the right arm was expanded. Four
Magna Mk II medium lasers were installed across the torso to serve as secondary weapons,
removing the need for ammunition except for the autocannon. And the new left arm was
machined. including a rebuilt claw which protects a pair of Magna Hellstar PPCs. It creates
a might left jab for Clam Bake at range, with that killer right as a finisher. The remaining
space was packed with heat sinks, a total of twenty four that are sufficient for the PPCs or
    the lasers and the autocannon.

That was a while ago. Since then, the battleroms show that Clam Bake has lived up to the
design intent. It's changed hands several times, but it's kept its name. Which is ironic
because it refers to steaming, traditionally in a hole in the ground, a mix of shellfish and
potatoes and maize and onions. One would expect that would be the fate of the pilot, but
it's actually a little oversunk if you're not alpha striking. If you are, the machine will
probably shut down. But if you keep everything on the target, it's going to be somewhat out
of service as well. But with good heat management, it's mechwarriors can approach with the
twin PPCs firing as much as they need to at distance to cripple the enemy, then close for
the autocannon execution with or without the lasers.

While it doesn't improve on the armour of the standard configuration, it's still good. And
the mobility is as to be expect. So what do I think of Clam Bake?

I think I'm glad I'm not facing it. It's not as flexible as an Atlas. It is the same kind of
dangerous as I'd put the Awesome.
