Overview:
Description:
The Stinger was a light BattleMech built in 2479 as a direct competitor to the Wasp. The
second-ever mass-produced recon 'Mech, the Stinger was put into service alongside the Wasp
due both to the Terran Hegemony's needs for scouts and to the similarities in their design.
In fact the two were so similar that General Mechanics filed suit against Earthwerks
Incorporated for copyright infringement, and after twenty years of back-and-forth legal
actions, during which Stinger production continued unabated, GM eventually dropped the
matter due to the rising costs of pursuing the lawsuit.[9][10] The Stinger would go on to
become the second-most produced 'Mech in the Inner Sphere after the Wasp.[15] More than
200,000 were built between the time of its introduction and the end of the Amaris Civil War,
serving with the Great Houses as a valuable scout and raider. Though lacking the armor and
armaments to contend with larger 'Mechs, its speed and maneuverability made the Stinger a
hard foe to hit.[9][10]
The Stinger's sheer proliferation saved it from the ravages of the Succession Wars, though
in testament to the destructiveness of that era only 5,000 Stingers were estimated to still
be in service by 3025. The 'Mech also found itself pressed into the role of trainer to make
up for the decreasing number of still-working Chameleons.[9][10] Common everywhere except
within the Free Rasalhague Republic, Earthwerks was still the largest producer of the 'Mech
during this time, building them at factories on Keystone and Calloway VI. For many years the
second-largest Stinger producer was Coventry Metal Works out of Coventry, but in the time
leading up to the Clan Invasion they were overtaken by Taurian Concordat manufacturers, in
particular Vandenberg Mechanized Industries on New Vandenberg and Illiushin and Pinard
Protectorates Limited on MacLeod's Land, as CMW shifted production focus to the Commando.
Other major manufacturers in the Periphery included Majesty Metals and Manufacturing on
Canopus IV and Alliance Defenders Limited on Alpheratz.[16]
While a prolific 'Mech like the Wasp and Locust, there were never many variants of the
Stinger produced. Only Earthwerks utilized the recovery of lostech to introduce an updated
version of the 'Mech, the STG-5M, in 3050.[16] A more revolutionary change took place some
years later when the Taurians, inspired by their collaboration with the Capellan
Confederation on a revitalized Wasp variant, decided to do the same to their stockpiles of
Stingers. Lacking sufficient facilities to mass produce the advanced material needed for
this upgrade, the Taurians received assistance from the Word of Blake to kick-start their
program in exchange for a large number of Stinger and Wasp 'Mechs. Plans for advanced
Stingers would eventually be shared with Detroit Consolidated and Hellespont
Industrials.[15]
Capabilities:
Weapons and Equipment:
The Stinger Almost Always carries a light weapons load, usually with an Omicron 3000 medium
laser mounted in its right arm as its primary weapon, backed up by two LFN Lindblad machine
guns on the right and left forearm, with a 200-round magazine in the center torso. While
insufficient for fighting against most 'Mechs, this loadout made the Stinger a nightmare for
troopers, and it remained one of the best anti-infantry 'BattleMechs until the introduction
of the Firestarter. The iron sights of the machine guns also proved beneficial when the
'Mech became a trainer, as MechWarriors were often forced to rely on them during training;
this served to improve many pilots' motor skills, which proved useful in other areas such as
using their hand actuators to manipulate objects.[9][10]
The low heat output of the weapons also posed no challenge for the thirteen doubled heat
sinks the 'Mech carries, such that overheating was almost never a problem. Its cruising
speed of 63.4 km/h was supplemented by six jump jets split between the left and right Torso,
propelling the Stinger up to 180 meters (591 feet) in a single bound. Nine tons of armoring
on the Stinger giving a surprising durability to the light BattleMech, which can surprise
many enemy Mechwarriors when the BattleMech shrugs of a hit that they think should take it
out.
One unpopular aspect of the Stinger however was its incredibly cramped cockpit for anyone of
average size; a MechWarrior had to literally squeeze themselves into the control seat and
would often need help just to get back out.[9][10]
Design Quirks
The Stinger has the following Design Quirks:[51]
Rugged (1)
Ubiquitous
Cramped Cockpit
Variants:
Variants:
STG-3G
The 3G Stinger was the only mainstream variant of the Stinger to achieve any sort of
popularity prior to the Clan Invasion. First debuting in 2581, it traded the two machine
guns for a second medium laser mounted on the left arm. While this variant increased the
Stinger's lethality against other 'Mechs, it also made heat management a little more
complicated for less experienced MechWarriors.[9][10][17]
BV (1.0) = 438,[12]
BV (2.0) = 497[18][19]
STG-3Gb
The Royal Stinger introduced in 2720 used an XL engine and endo steel chassis, to be able to
mount a battery of three medium lasers and one small laser. The single heat sinks were
upgraded to double heat sinks, and the speed and jumping distance of the 'Mech were also
improved slightly.[20]
BV (2.0) = 674[21][22][23]
STG-3P
A Jihad-era repair yard refit of the venerable Stinger unveiled in 3068,[24] the 3P was
built on an endo steel chassis and carried, as its only weapon, either a Fusigon Mini or a
Lord's Light light PPC capable of striking a target at up to 540 meters. Additionally, the
3P carried four tons of ferro-fibrous armor to protect it from enemy fire.[25][26] BV (2.0)
= 489[27][28]
STG-3Y
A refit associated with Mech-it Lube, this variant removes the machine guns in favor of a
quartet of small lasers.[29]
STG-3Y2
Another refit associated with Mech-it Lube, this variant removes the jump jets to install
two more medium lasers and more armor. It was described as a "miniature version of the
'Blazing Inferno' Commando", suggesting this is a further modification of the aforementioned
STG-3Y refit.[29]
STG-4G
A Jihad-era experiment, this Stinger uses an endo steel chassis and an XL engine to increase
speed to 111 km/h. A medium pulse laser is carried in each arm and it also retains the 180
meter jump capability.
BV (2.0) = 541[30]
STG-5G
Based on the 3P variant and introduced in 3076, this model also uses endo steel chassis and
adds an XL engine. The engine gives the STG-5G a top speed of 111 km/h and provides enough
weight savings to add more armor, a light PPC, and an advanced PPC capacitor to enhance its
lethality. In addition to the extra armor, the pilot is protected by a Full-Head Ejection
System.
BV (2.0) = 614[31][32]
STG-5M
This upgraded version of the Stinger, produced by Earthwerks Incorporated on Keystone and
Calloway VI, took advantage of several technologies that were rediscovered, thanks in part
to the Helm Memory Core. The chassis was upgraded to an Earthwerks STG II endo steel model,
allowing it to carry an additional half-ton of armor. The 'Mech retained the Omicron 3000
medium laser, but swapped the machine guns for an LFN Lindblad Shotgun anti-missile system
on its right arm and a Flame Tech flamer on its left. One ton of AMS ammo was carried in the
right torso.[16][33]
BV (1.0) = 352,[12]
BV (2.0) = 432[34]
STG-5R
The 5R variant was created by the Taurian Concordat with assistance from Word of Blake. This
upgrade of the Stinger used three tons of Durallex Light Ferro-Fibrous armor, carried a
Diverse Optics ER medium laser in the right arm and two Death Blossom RL-15s split between
the side torsos. Perhaps the most important change, as far as pilot comfort was concerned,
was replacing the cramped cockpit with a new head assembly which included a Full-Head
Ejection System. The chassis and electronics remained unchanged so that refits of existing
Stingers could be carried out in a matter of months. The first Taurian units to receive the
upgraded 'Mechs did so in early 3067, while the Word of Blake received theirs earlier. The
5R is produced on New Vandenberg, MacLeod's Land, and Detroit.[1][35]
BV (1.0) = 461,[36]
BV (2.0) = 492[37]
STG-5T
Capable of engaging an enemy at any range, the Periphery-manufactured 5T variant of the
Stinger introduced in 3068 was armed with two Doombud MML-3s, which were capable of firing
both LRM and SRM ammunition, making the 5T extremely flexible. Appearing in Taurian and
Magistracy units, the 5T was powered by an XL engine and was clad in three tons of Durallex
Light ferro-fibrous armor.[25][28][38]
BV (2.0) = 341[39]
STG-6G
This further development of the STG-5G returns to the early Stinger design by carrying a
machine gun in each arm and a medium X-Pulse laser in the right arm. The 6G uses an XL
engine to reach a top speed of 111 km/h, and it can cover 210 meters in a single jump. 10
double heat sinks keep the heat under control and a half ton of machine gun ammo is in the
center torso.
BV (2.0) = 503[40]
STG-6L
This House Liao-manufactured 6L variant of the Stinger utilized an endo steel structure and
stealth armor. Introduced in 3067 and produced on Detroit and Sian for both the Capellans
and Magistracy, the 'Mech carried two medium lasers and a Guardian ECM suite, and also
replaced the engine with an LTV 160 model, increasing top speed to 130 km/h at the expense
of dropping all jump jets.[1][41]
BV (1.0) = 603,[42]
BV (2.0) = 680[43]
STG-6M
This further development of the STG-5M replaces the weapons with an ER flamer, ER medium
laser, and a laser AMS.
BV (2.0) = 503[44]
STG-6R
This scout version of the Stinger mounts a 160-rated XL engine for a top speed of 120 km/h,
while eight jump jets provide a 240 meter jump capability. Each arm mounts a heavy machine
gun and an ER medium laser provides the Stinger's main firepower.
BV (2.0) = 454[45]
STG-6S
Intended to operate at a longer range than most other Stinger variants, House Steiner began
manufacturing the 6S in 3067. It used a light fusion engine to push the 'Mech up to speeds
of 118.8 km/h and was capable of reaching speeds of 151.2 km/h through the use of a MASC
system. The 'Mech could also jump up to two hundred and ten meters. An additional weight
saving measure on this variant was the use of a small cockpit. The 'Mech was armed with two
light machine guns for anti-infantry and crowd control use, and to defend itself against
'Mechs and vehicles, the 6S had a single ER medium laser.[25][28][46]
BV (2.0) = 478[47]
STG-7S
This Steiner version, introduced in 3077, maximizes jump range by mounting eight improved
jump jets, allowing it to cover 240 meters in a single leap. The Stinger 7S is built around
an endo steel chassis and carries an XL engine, but carries only three tons of armor and a
single ER medium laser. Pilots should therefore use the jumping ability to the fullest to
avoid damage, but a Full-Head Ejection System is available in case the armor is breached.
Interestingly, this model's left leg carries slightly less armor than the right leg.[28]
BV (2.0) = 382[48]
Stinger C
Originally used by the Hell’s Horses as a trainer, the Stinger C is also used by Clan
Wolf. Retaining the standard engine and jump jets of the 3R means the Stinger C is just as
mobile as the original, but endo steel is used to free up some weight. The standard Machine
Guns are replaced with lighter Clan models and the ammo is reduced to a half ton in a CASE
protected magazine in the left torso. A Clan grade ER Medium Laser replaces the standard
laser and a Small Pulse Laser is mounted below it. The Stinger C is marginally better
against armored targets, but is even deadlier against infantry.
BV (2.0) = 592[49]
Stinger C 2
A sub variant of the C used first by the Blood Spirits, the Stinger C 2 is now widespread
among the Clans. This variant removes the machine guns completely and uses the weight to
mount another ER Medium Laser in the left arm.
BV (2.0) =754[50]

Stinger LAM - A heavy modification of the Stinger, it was capable of transforming between a
'Mech and an aerospace fighter. Never produced in large numbers, there were still many in
service during the Succession Wars[52] due in part because the LexaTech facility on the
Draconis Combine world of Irece, the last intact LAM factory in the Inner Sphere. LexaTech
Industries was able to construct new Stinger LAMs as well as new parts.[53] The loss of the
factory to the forces of Clan Nova Cat in 3050 during the Clan Invasion sounded the death
knell for the Land-Air 'Mech as a viable combat unit, as the Nova Cats viewed Land-Air
'Mechs as an abomination and utterly razed the LexaTech factory to the ground.[54]
Stinger IIC - Clan Snow Raven refitted this 'Mech with Clan technology and shared it with
the Outworlds Alliance to foster unity between the two entities.

Notes
Introduced in Battledroids with incorrect stats (it was one ton overweight), the Stinger was
one of the first BattleMechs ever. Its original visual representation is now among the
Unseen.
In German products, the unit's proper name was altered to Hornisse, which means Hornet. The
model code was accordingly changed to HRN-3S.
In French products, the unit's proper name was translated as Aiguillon, which means Sting.

History:
Balthus was stationed on Rasalgethi as the tensions of the FedCom Civil War began to boil
over in 3062. He was assigned the task of monitoring the actions of the Allied Seventeenth
Donegal Guards to ensure they would not enter into hostilities against the Loyalist Sixth.
He performed this duty well, until a strong storm caused him to lose track of the
Seventeenth just as they staged a surprise attack on the Sixth's headquarters. He fought on
for weeks, surrendering only after news reached him of the mutiny in the Sixth and the
arrest of Leutnant-General Seth Alpert. Disgusted by the turn of events he left the
military, which allowed him to miss the destruction of the Sixth eight years later when Clan
Wolf invaded Tomans.[1]

Albert Benton:

House Benton
Alias(es): Gunner
Born: 2997[1]
Career Profession:
MechWarrior
Albert Benton was a thirty-first century Draconis Combine MechWarrior, officer, and
commanding officer of the storied Sorenson's Sabres BattleMech Company. In his youth, Albert
used his average features to blend into crowds and not be noticed when he was up to
something. He had a strong interest in technology, which led him to become a competent
engineer in his day. When he joined Sorenson's Sabres, he began to learn interrogation
techniques. He was noted for possessing natural charisma and aptitude in his later
years.[1][2][3]
History:
Early Life and Military Career:
Albert Benton was born on Galedon V, and when he joined the DCMS, he was assigned as
ammunition loader for an Artillery Unit at a very young age. During combat with Federated
Suns forces, his unit's artillery piece knocked out an enemy Stinger. He discovered that its
pilot had been killed by the shell, but the 'Mech remained operational. When Federated Suns
recovery crews retrieved the downed BattleMech, he followed in a jeep into Federation held
territory. After observing activities of the techs, he knocked out a guard and stole the
recovery vehicle with the Stinger on board. In a matter of frantic hours he returned to
Combine-controlled lines with his newly acquired BattleMech which he named Lucky Star.[2]
As MechWarrior in Sorenson's Sabres:
Early Campaigns with Sorenson's Sabres in 3020s
While with Sorenson's Sabres, Albert was assigned to Chu-i Sveinson's Medium Lance.
While on a mission on the Davion world of Udibi with the rest of the Fifth Sword of Light,
Albert's lance got separated from the rest of the company during a supply raid on a city.
With no promised reinforcements, Albert was ordered by Sveinson to grab as much from the
Davion supply depot as they could and then quickly retreat from the city. The unit's dash
for the landing zone allowed them a successful escape with the rest of the Fifth Sword.
Benton and the rest of the Sabres were assigned to be part of the Thirty-sixth Dieron
Regulars to help break a deadlock on the contested world of Quentin in January 3026. Benton
was disgusted by the death caused by the Hungry Ghosts of the Thirty-sixth Dieron who
targeted civilians and dependents of House Davion forces to break their morale. Westham
Valley turned into a battlefield as Benton and his forces fought a vengeful Davion-employed
mercenary unit, Swann's Cavaliers, while Albert attempted to cover the true butchers, the
Thirty-sixth Dieron.[4]
In June 3026, his DropShip was shot down by Davion fighters and crash landed before a
planned raid on the world of Errai. Benton led the way for his lance through the Red Forest,
which was filled with Davion infantry troops. The Red Forest's dense trees scrambled their
sensors on their journey to meet with Tai-i Sorenson and the rest of the company. Despite
the enemy's advantages, the unit was able to march through the forest.[5]
The Fourth Succession War:
Albert was deployed with the rest of the Sabres and Fifth Sword of Light in 3029 to
Northwind in Fourth Succession War. They were given the unusual mission to pilot their
'Mechs through a major metropolis' water reservoir; their BattleMechs' lower halves were
freshly painted in an effort to poison the city. The unit then fought a sickened Fifth Deneb
Light Cavalry, which had been hit by food poisoning. While fighting with the rest of the
Fifth Sword, Genyosha, and other Kuritan regiments joined the fight. Their attempt to secure
the planet for the Dragon failed due to the arrival of the Northwind Highlanders. In the
battle with the Highlanders Albert lost his Stinger. He was then assigned to a PNT-9R
Panther before the Fifth Sword would arrive on Nusakan later that year. Albert's unit fought
the Kell Hounds on the outskirts of the battle, and only took minor damage, but Conti's
defeat in his duel would leave everyone in dishonor.[6]
The Rise and Fall of the Sabres:
After the War, the unit spent several years conducting border raids along the Davion border.
While on Togura in 3034, the Free Rasalhague Republic's formation was announced. This caused
a stir among the members of the Sabres, of whom a quarter were Rasalhagian in descent,
including Tai-i Sorenson and Albert's Chu-i. In an argument, Sveinson and Soderstrom got
into a fight over Sorenson's decision to remain in the Combine. After punching Sorenson, he
ordered them incarcerated. The next day, Albert was on the march in his Panther pursuing his
former lance leader and other former comrades. The resulting battle with them would leave
the Sabres dead and the unit spiritually broken. When they returned to base after the
battle, they received word from Kanrei Theodore Kurita which decreed that all Rasalhagian
soldiers who wished to resign to join the new Republic were free to do so. The Sabres
received orders to train new soldiers of the Republic on Damian.
On Damian in February of 3035, the unit failed in its duty to train the Republic's soldiers
properly and they also failed to stop the Bandit King Hendrik Grimm from taking valuable
goods from the planet. Albert and his unit were soon reassigned to Enif and exiled from the
Fifth Sword of Light.[7] During this time Albert traded his Panther for a ComStar "gift," an
MON-66 Mongoose.
On the Sabres' reassignment, Albert was promoted to the rank of Chu-i of their Pursuit
Lance. He and the rest of the Lance Leaders continued to do drill work to rebuild the unit's
lost cohesion and sense of belonging. Eight years after being sent into exile and Sorenson's
efforts to rebuild the unit's soul, they were put to the test. In 3042, pirates out of
Antallos struck the planet; after tracking them, they discovered the pirates were not after
armor factories, but the planet's food warehouses. Albert's lance, with a fire lance,
flanked the enemy raider force and crushed them with firepower and speed. They managed to
capture a Union Class DropShip, and the battle was a resounding success, which marked the
Sabres' new road to recovering their honor.
A few months later, slaver pirates raided the planet during a training exercise. Albert's
Command Lance was forced to withdraw, rearm hastily, and help the Fire Lance combat the
pirates. The unit was able to capture the commander of the force, who turned out to be the
consort of “Mad” Max Smythe, an infamous pirate slaver of Antallos. They learned from
her that early pirate raids against the planet were elements of the Band of the Damned. The
Sabres then set out on a year-long hunt to find the Warlord of Galedon and to stop the
slavers and the Damned. Though there were only a few successes, the unit proved its worth to
the DCMS high command, and was reattached to the Fifth Sword of Light once again.[8]
Clash with McKinnon's Raiders:
In 3049, the Sabres received orders to probe into the Federated Commonwealth's Draconis
March to look for signs of possible invasion. Raids within the last two years caused the
leadership of the Combine to become concerned of impending invasion.
Through the course of hitting various worlds in the Federated Commonwealth, the unit found
little regarding the invasion. However, Davion raids of the border in 3047 turned out to be
Fox's Teeth, an elite Davion independent company. Albert and the rest of the Sabres moved to
raid the Fox's base on Benet III. In a brutal all-out battle, the two forces kept fighting
until the Sabres felt honor had been satisfied for the Dragon, and they withdrew.[9]
Duty on Luthien:
After the Campaign of 3048–3049, The Kanrei recalled the unit to Luthien. There the unit
was awarded status as a true independent BattleMech Company, no longer attached to any
frontline combat unit. With the Sabres slipping from the TO&E of Combine, they became a
black ops unit.
Here Albert developed a relationship with Luthien Armor Works, while the unit conducted
trials of new and experimental equipment for the Combine. He took part in the testing of the
Blackjack medium OmniMech. By 3060, his Mongoose he had nicknamed Gunner, was reassigned to
the 2nd Sword of Light. LAW's Research and Development section gifted him a Black Hawk-KU
heavy OmniMech for his extensive help did with the new Blackjack.[10]
Assuming Command of the Sabres and the Combine-Ghost Bear War
In 3061, Albert's longtime commander Daniel Sorenson retired from service. He was elevated
to Tai-i and assumed command of the unit. He in moving speech at the change of command
ceremony, announced unit would forgo changing the name of the unit as it been tradition of
the company parent's regiments tradition.[11] He announced the unit would retain the name in
honor of Sorenson's duty and honor of holding the company together through his years of
service.[1]
After taking command, Albert and his command were moved to the Clan Ghost Bear border, where
with newly held freedom maintain vigilance against any Clan intrusion.
In 3062, the Combine-Ghost Bear War broke out due to efforts of the Black Dragon Society
influenced Alshain Avengers Brigade trying to take their homeworld back from Clan Ghost
Bear. Albert exploited the unit's independence and raided a number of Dominion worlds during
the conflict. His exploits earned respect of the Ghost Bears to request that he and his unit
to Courchevel, for a Trial of Possession which would end dishonorable war in honor. His
noted action of the Trial, when in a personal duel, he took down a Kingfisher assault
OmniMech.
After conclusion of the War, Albert and his command were then returned to Luthien. There he
was given the honor of being attached to the Coordinator's personal bodyguard unit, the
Otomo.[1]
Jihad:
Luthien:
In 3068, the Black Dragon Society influenced most of the 2nd Sword of Light to seize
Imperial Capital. Albert and his Sabres were able to escape the fate of the majority of the
Otomo. He led the unit through the fires of war for control of the capital, to join forces
with the loyalist aligned 1st Genyosha and survivors of the Coordinator's bodyguard units to
help combat the ronin Black Dragon forces. Over course of early years of the occupation of
Luthien, Albert led his unit in attack and fade tactics against the rebel forces in the
ruins of the capital city. This continued until people with Lord Chandrasekhar Kurita,
convinced join his team of troops to fight the true enemy of the Combine, The Word of
Blake.[1]
Stone's Coalition
After initial battles against the Blakists with Lord Kurita's Hachiman Taro Electronics, the
death of Uncle Chandy led him into working with Devlin Stone's Coalition. As part of the
Coalition he became liaison to Clan Ghost Bear who had joined the fight against the
Blakists. His duel in 3063 at the end of the Combine-Ghost Bear War won him the respect
needed to be a liaison officer to them. His leadership and tactics with his unit fighting
alongside the Ghost Bears in the Protectorate proved to be a boon for Stone's Coalition.
During the campaign, his Black Hawk-KU began to show wear and tear, despite offers by the
Ghost Bears to replace it with a true Nova. He took up an offer to have his machine fitted
out with Clan weaponry instead.[12]
In August 3078, Albert and the Sabres would be assigned to participate in the retaking of
Terra in Operation SYCTHE. Assigned to Task Force MALLET, he was initially assigned to
command the operation to take the city of Athens with his Sabres and The Battle Corps
mercenary command. Under the direction of General Lee, Albert's command worked with other
special operations units which successfully retook the city in a near bloodless fight.[13]
BattleMechs:
In his very early career, he was known to pilot light BattleMechs, starting with an
"acquired" Federated Suns Stinger BattleMech named Lucky Star. It was noted that he was
known as one of the best Stinger pilots in the Inner Sphere.[14][15] After the 'Mech's
destruction in 3029 during the Fourth Succession War, he was reassigned to a Panther. By
3034, he was given an MON-67 Mongoose while giving up his Panther to a newcomer of the unit.
When he assumed command of the Sabres he was gifted by LAW with a new Black Hawk-KU.[16] The
'Mech was reconfigured by 3075 with Clan weaponry in place of Inner Sphere weapons,
retaining its C3 master computer.[17]

MechWarrior[1]
Reginald Benton was a Chu-i in the Forty-fifth Benjamin Regulars.[1]
History
Benton was the great-grandson to Albert Benton and the eldest member of one of the most
respected MechWarrior families in the Draconis Combine. Unlike his grandfather and father
however, Reginald had none of their natural aptitude, only long hours of study and practice
allowed him to meet his familial expectations. In 3147 he was assigned to the Forty-fifth
Benjamin Regulars when Operation PERCEVAL and the battle of Clovis introduced him to lowborn
Leftenant Anselm Remaldi of the First Avalon Hussars in a running battle between the
Regulars and local resistance. Remaldi's Locust legged Benton's Stinger in that first
meeting. The pair faced off again in 3148, this time Benton returned the favor and forced
Remaldi to eject. The pair met at least four more times, never a decisive victory though
Remaldi lost two more Locusts. Soldiers on both sides routinely bet on the next outcome, and
surrounding fighting would often halt while the pair dueled. The two have developed a deep
hatred for each other, with Benton's carefully cultivated reputation among the nobles
suffering for his inability to defeat a lowborn MechWarrior. In 3150 the Hussars were
finally rescued, and the Regulars surrendered the world As Benton left, Remaldi broadcast a
series of taunts knowing it would infuriate Benton, their feud unresolved. Benton has since
pushed for a reassignment to a unit more likely to face the Hussars, and an upgrade of his
Stinger with Clan tech.[2][1][3][4]

occupation of the world. A year before liberation she obtained a Stinger which she used to
flush out Blakist forces from cover of three occasions. Her fourth attempt was against
forces with greater control, and they refused to take the bait. A field gun destroyed her
right leg however, though Davenport was able to destroy it before evading capture.[1]
BattleMech:
Davenport piloted a STG-3P Stinger.[1]

Career Rank:
Acolyte[1][2]
Profession:
MechWarrior[1][2][3]
Dylan Dray was an Acolyte in the 104th Division (The Rhinos (V-lambda).[1][2][3]
History:
Dray was part of the mass of ComStar MechWarriors tasked with bringing down Aidan Pryde's
Timber Wolf on the Prezno Plains as he acted as rearguard for the Clan Jade Falcon retreat
from the Battle of Tukayyid. His ’Mech began malfunctioning, seemingly unable to obtain a
lock on the Timber Wolf as Pryde appeared to manifest the Phantom Mech ability. Dray fired
the last shot, targeting the emerald eyes of the Jade Falcon painted on the torso. Neither
Dray nor other members of The Rhinos claimed credit for the kill.[1][2][3]
BattleMech:
Dray piloted a STG-3G Stinger, with the BattleMech Serial Number CS233-STG-3G. After the
battle with Aidan Pryde his ’Mech continued to have intermittent targeting and sensor
anomalies, which appeared to propagate to other BattleMechs it interfaced with. ComStar
Technicians elected to strip the entire computer hardware from the Stinger. Rumors persisted
for years of attempts to weaponize the "White Rhino Virus"[1][2][3]
Morton Hopeless:
Personal Affiliation:
Solaris[1]
Career Rank:
Captain[1]
Profession:
MechWarrior[1]
Morton Hopeless was a gladiator in the Solaris games.[1]
History:
Captain Morton Hopeless was a well known Solaris gladiator more known for his loud mouth
than his rankings. He was particularly outspoken about the conventional wisdom that an Atlas
could defeat a battalion of Stingers. When Atlas pilot Killian "Mangler" Pomeroy heard of
this he demanded Hopeless "put up or shut up." Accepting the challenge, Hopeless fought a
match in the Jungle for verigraphs. Taking advantage of the close quarters and high
temperatures Hopeless outmaneuvered the Atlas, finishing the match with a humiliating kick
that snapped off the larger ’Mech's leg. At the conclusion of the fight Hopeless refused
to take possession of the Atlas, claiming it to be an "inferior ’Mech."[1]

Velglarn Kharlan was a MechWarrior and Instructor at the Allison MechWarrior Institute.[1]
History:
Kharlan was an instructor at the Allison MechWarrior Institute and a noted expert in Clan
tactics and culture. He was often sent Clan bondsmen to interview. This changed in 3074 when
Dr. Saga Brest's research into Operation Klondike showed he was related to one of the
founders of Clan Wolverine, Linda Kharlan. Without thinking of the ramifications be shared
this bit of family trivia with three bondsmen whom immediately declared a Trial of
Annihilation. He fought bravely but was unable to stand against the massed firepower of his
former-colleagues. It is unknown what Bloodhouse, if any, the three were granted as a reward
for completing the Bloodright.[1]

Career Rank:
Captain
Profession:
MechWarrior
Scope Kinugau was MechWarrior during the early thirty-first century.[1]
History:
He fought for the DCMS for more than fifty engagements until he switched allegiance to the
Magistracy of Canopus. Rumor said this was because he had fallen in love with Kyalla
Centrella, and since then he was put in charge of scout training in the Magistracy of
Canopus.[1]
BattleMech:
Scope was known to pilot a Stinger BattleMech, nicknamed "Centrellan Hope".[1]
Johnny Mace:
Personal Affiliation:
Mercenary;[1]
Free Worlds League[2]
Career Rank:
Force Commander[2]
Profession:
MechWarrior[2]
Johnny Mace was the commander of Bravo Battalion of the Gryphons.[2]
History:
In July 3028 Johnny Mace was an inexperienced freelance mercenary MechWarrior known more for
his womanizing and patchouli stench than his battlefield skills. His agent, Mr. Morris of
Leech Contractors and Negotiators secured contract IND 27-1208-03D for him. A pirate defense
contract on the Lyran Commonwealth's periphery border world of Here that had been
languishing unfulfilled since 8 December 3027 due to undesirable terms.[3] Due to Mace's
Poor quality rating he only qualified for 65% of base remuneration on this already poor
contract[4] Because of his inexperience and naiveté Mace took the contract, despite the
knowledge he would face a pirate unit fielding a PNT-9R Panther, WTH-1 Whitworth, and GHR-5H
Grasshopper among others.[1]
Somehow, he survived that contract and life eventually took him to Shiloh. There he would
end up imprisoned and sentenced to a forced labor camp, ending his mercenary career. While
serving his sentence he converted to the Exituri faith and volunteered to serve as the part
of the planet's manpower tribute to the Gryphons. Mace thrived there, aided by his newfound
dedication and rose to command Bravo Battalion.[2]
BattleMech:
Mace piloted a STG-3R Stinger.[1][2]
Quotes:

Xerxes Mard:
Personal Affiliation:
Draconis Combine[1]
Profession:
MechWarrior[1]
Xerxes Mard was a MechWarrior and conman.[1]
History:
Xerxes Mard was born on Cadiz to a MechWarrior family of some small repute. His mediocre
skills piloting a ’Mech still managed to surpass his success as a con artist. That all
changed with the Clan Invasion. Portraying himself as "Galaxy Commander" Mard of "Clan
Punisher" he preyed on the uninformed and gullible members of the Periphery, able to
threated or cajole most concessions he desired. When that failed, the Machine Guns of his
Stinger usually quelled complaints. He disappeared suddenly in 3054, but the hushed whispers
about Clan Punisher could still be heard years later.[1]

"Clan Punisher" is a call back to a time when the names of the existing Clans were not set
in stone yet, Clans Fox and Punisher were among the selectable factions in an advertisement

Elliria McClure was a founder of the mercenary unit McClure's Hive.[1]
History:
Major Elliria McClure was a battalion commander in the Third Canopian Fusiliers when the
Magistracy of Canopus began strengthening ties with the Capellan Confederation, something
that did not sit well with McClure and others. In early 3069 she put out a call to Fusiliers
who felt the same as her, and many quietly slipped away with their BattleMechs to rendezvous
on Herotitus. McClure had been quietly establishing a cache of ’Mechs on planet, primarily
older scouts. After recruiting heavily from the Dispossessed on planet she had nearly a
regiment. Her first contracts as McClure's Hive were with the Fronc Reaches and the Calderon
Protectorate.[1]
BattleMech:
McClure piloted a STG-6L Stinger.[1]

Profession:
MechWarrior[1]
Marcus Norman was a Corporal in Lola's Lights.[1]
History:
Corporal Marcus Norman was aboard the Lights' DropShip during Operation SCOUR when TerraSec
fighters forced it to land in the Yucatan Peninsula. With the unit out of contact they
assumed they were in Word of Blake controlled territory and began raiding supply bases in
order to tie down as many local defenders as possible. Coalition leadership meanwhile
assumed they were destroyed. Norman's Stinger excelled at the raiding, and nearly a century
later it was still used as an example of light ’Mech tactics. After seven months though,
this would come to an end. On 29 January 3079 Gannon's Cannons was assigned to hunt down
what were believed to be Word of Blake holdouts refusing to accept the surrender three weeks
earlier. After a brief battle that killed the Lights' commander Norman and others began to
surrender. It was only then that the true identities of both parties were discovered and
Norman learned he had been attacking allied personnel for nearly a month. Horrified with
this revelation he resigned from military service and dedicated his life to humanitarian
pursuits.[1][2][3]

Marge Sippers:
Born: 3007
Personal Affiliation:
Draconis Combine
Career Rank:
Tai-i
Profession:
MechWarrior
Tai-i Marge Sippers was a Draconis Combine MechWarrior and lifelong disciple of
controversial tactician Mercer Ravannion.[1][2][3]
History:
Sippers was a young sixteen-year-old MechWarrior in 3023 serving under Captain Mercer
Ravannion, the infamous proponent of the controversial "Charge of the Horde" tactic of using
large numbers of light 'Mechs to overwhelm heavier forces. She was a true believer in
Ravannion's ideas, an attachment some attributed to a schoolgirl crush.
Despite her linkage with the disgraced Ravannion, she proved to be skilled MechWarrior and
tactician, and after his death rose to the rank of Tai-i. During this time she won a number
of surprising victories using a modified form of the "Charge of the Horde" tactic,
exchanging heavier Jenners for the lighter Wasps and Stingers preferred by Ravannion.[1]
These included a raid on Kelenfold in 3042, where she attacked a Kelenfold TMM supply depot
using her version of the "Charge of the Horde". Attacking at night with her highly mobile
company, she managed to isolate a Lyran Commonwealth assault lance defending the depot.
While successful in destroying the depot and two enemy assault 'Mechs, she lost half her
company in exchange, earning her a reprimand and generating further derision of horde
tactics.[3]
Her devotion to Ravannion continued after her retirement, when she founded a small museum to
his memory, covering both his personal and professional accomplishments.[2]

Sippers was known to pilot a Stinger BattleMech.[1]
Aris Sung:
Born 3034[1]
Died 5 August 3072[1][2]
Personal Affiliation:
Capellan Confederation
Profession:
MechWarrior
Aris Sung was a MechWarrior of Warrior House Hiritsu.
He entered into the service of the House at the unusual age of thirteen years (he was too
old to join the house by regular means) by stealing Crescent Moon and asking for a place in
the house before he returned it. He rose through ranks and commanded a company during the
siege of Kaifeng. He also participated in the Capellan - St. Ives war.
History:
Early Life:
Aris Sung grew up on Randar as an orphan, and it is implied he was a thief and street
gangster by 3047 when he was thirteen years old. He admired House Hiritsu who resided on the
world and wanted to join their ranks.[3]
At thirteen years of age Aris Sung won admission to Warrior House Hiritsu by impressing
House Master Virginia York with his audacity and maturity when he broke into the House's
stronghold and stole Crescent Moon. It was at that young age that he merited the ire of
future House Master Ty Wu Non, establishing an irascible relationship that lasted throughout
Sung's career with the Warrior House. Sung entered training later than most other
applicants, but applied himself and had, by 3051, become a member of House Hirtisu's
infantry battalion. It was in this role that he was present on Gei-Fu to subdue a BattleMech
(a Stinger) single-handedly, saving the life of House Master York in the process. This
earned him a promotion to the House's BattleMech battalion in the 'Mech he captured.[3]
Kaifeng:
By 3058 Sung's obvious abilities and brilliant mind had earned him the position of Lance
Leader in the BattleMech battalion, and he was instrumental in the attack on Kaifeng. When
traitors from within House Hiritsu conspired with the Kaifeng Sarna March Militia to bring
down the Warrior House and succeeded in killing House Master Virginia York, Sung advanced to
Company Leader, uncovered the conspiracy, and helped the House battle its way to victory.[3]
On Kaifeng, Aris befriended a young thief named Li Wynn, who provided vital assistance to
him as he was stranded behind enemy lines. Admiring Aris, Li Wynn joined Warrior House
Hiritsu afterwards,[4] though he and Aris would later come to disagree with each other on
certain issues.
Capellan-St. Ives War:
When the Chancellor chose to tour the Capellan worlds along the St. Ives Compact border, it
was House Hiritsu, and Aris Sung with them, who oversaw much of his security. In his
personal journal Sung wrote of how the Xin Sheng movement had revitalized the
Confederation's populace and military, and his own pride in serving as head of the
Chancellor's honor guard, as well swearing to protect his ruler against any St. Ives
treachery, for if Sun-Tzu Liao died the Confederation's revival would die with him.[5]
Sung's suspicions about his Compact brethren appeared vindicated when the Blackwind Lancers
struck at the Chancellor's entourage on Hustaing, though Sun-Tzu himself had instead
returned to Sian briefly, and was represented on Hustaing by his fiancée, Isis Marik, who
went missing in the attack.[6]
Sung and the Hiritsu warriors drove the Lancers off, never realizing that Sun-Tzu had in
fact instigated the attack using a Maskirovka agent in the Lancers (and had apparently
planned to sacrifice Iris Marik for greater impact). Aris Sung even sought and received
special permission from House Master Ty Wu Non to infiltrate the city during the upheaval to
find and rescue Isis Marik. In this he succeeded, though in the final showdown between
Hiritsu personnel, Blackwind Lancers, and several criminal street gangs, Aris Sung would
have been killed if not for the intervention of a mysterious operative with an unknown
agenda.[6]
In the subsequent war with St. Ives, Sung and the Hiritsu warriors remained near the
forefront of the Capellan advance.
Together with other Capellan forces, House Hiritsu was present on St. Ives when the CCAF
took that world. Sung was often the voice of compassion and reason within the Warrior House
during this period, a role that House Master Ty Wu Non encouraged him in, despite their past
differences.[7]
Word of Blake Jihad and Death
Aris Sung was sent to Fanardir, in the Magistracy of Canopus, along with a team from House
Hiritsu, to make contact with a supposed anti-Blakist resistance cell after the Word of
Blake has brought the world under their control. The insertion failed; Aris Sung and his
fellow MechWarrior Mikhail Chess were discovered and hunted down in their BattleMechs. Both
were destroyed, but survived.[2]
Aris managed to escape initially, but was tracked and attacked by Setiwah, a female Manei
Domini operative. She ended up cutting his hand off and driving a blade into his heart.[2]
Aris woke up weeks later at a Resistance cell base and learned they had rescued him from a
Blakist laboratory. For some reason they had kept him alive and fitted him with an
artificial hand and heart. However, it was an elaborate ruse. The "resistance cell" turned
out to be a Word of Blake counterinsurgency operation designed to gain Aris Sung's trust.
Through his attempts to contact other Hiritsu operatives on Fanardir he unwittingly
compromised the entire Hiritsu operation as well as the real resistance cell.
Just as he realized that he had been played (upon meeting with the real resistance), Word of
Blake forces attacked and decimated them. Aris Sung found his artificial hand spasmed
uncontrollably, sidelining him in the fight. In the end he was approached by Setiwah who
confirmed that it had been her who had helped him twelve years earlier on Hustaing, because
he sought to rescue Isis Marik— the Word of Blake Master's progeny. Finally, she killed
him by stopping his artificial heart with a button on a remote control.[2][8]
BattleMechs:
Aris Sung was awarded the Stinger he had defeated when he was promoted from House Hiritsu's
infantry to MechWarrior.[1][3] By 3058, he piloted a Wraith (an unusual design originating
from the Free Worlds League) which he painted gunmetal blue and served most of his active
career with. The Wraith was destroyed in the failed insertion on Fanardir.
Family:
After the Blakist defeat on Setiwah, Magistracy forces recovered a child with genetic
markers matching Aris. The child was taken by House Hiritsu. Aris' granddaughter, Sandra,
was born in 3107. During the late Dark Age Era, she fought alongside Danai Centrella-Liao,
seeking to emulate Aris' martial and philosophical perfection.[9]
Quotations:
"Without the Warrior Houses, the Capellan State would collapse as the eagle falls without
her wings."
Notes:
Aris Sung was at the center of an ensemble cast of House Hiritsu characters introduced in
Loren Coleman's novel Binding Force. They would feature in several more novels and stories
by him and later Phaedra Weldon, and were mostly killed off in Weldon's story With Carrion
Men.
Among the scenes depicted on its cover, Handbook: House Liao features the captive
13-year-old Aris Sung as he is brought before House Master Virginia York by Ty Wu Non.
Aniceto Tuvida:
Born 1 May 3112[1]
Personal Affiliation:
Capellan Confederation
Career Rank:
MechWarrior[1]
Profession:
MechWarrior
Ancieto Tuvida was a MechWarrior in the Swift Lance of the Confederation Reserve Cavalry.[1]
History:
Tuvida was a loyal Capellan Confederation citizen, one tightly devoted to state ideals.
However, she had little drive of her own. She was a reliable MechWarrior for the
Confederation Reserve Cavalry, but one not expected to earn promotions. She served in the
Swift Lance alongside Concetina Schiller and Marek Zabielski.[1]
BattleMech:
Aniceto Tuvida piloted a STG-5R Stinger nicknamed Hidden Shock with serial number
TC4699-131K. Originally manufactured for the Taurian Concordat, it was captured by the
Federated Suns and in turn captured during the Victoria War by the Confederation.[1]
Alex Ward:

Personal Affiliation:
Clan Wolf
Wolf's Dragoons
Career Rank:
MechWarrior[1][2]
Profession:
MechWarrior
Alex Ward was a member of Wolf's Dragoons' Black Widow Company.[3]
History:
Clans:
A member of the Clans and a Bloodnamed warrior of the Ward Bloodhouse, Alex was dishonored
beyond redemption by his gambling habit, including losses to lower castes. He therefore
jumped at the opportunity to join the Dragoons in the Inner Sphere and start anew, with whom
he was with Natasha Kerensky, one of the few Bloodnamed Dragoons.[1][2]
Wolf's Dragoons:
Even a change of environment that dramatic did not however free him from his addiction, and
once with the Dragoons he remained a known gambler, who became severely indebted to his
battalion commander.[1][3]
He voluntarily joined the Black Widow Company after New Delos, expecting that the unit with
the highest combat bonus would help him pay his debts, which otherwise would have ended in
his disgrace and exile,[3] and had participated in all of its actions up through
3025.[4][5][6][7][8][9][10][11][12]
Over the years, he earned and lost fortunes many times over, and remained in debt. Natasha
Kerensky protected him from his creditors, and he returned her consideration with loyalty
and courage in battle.[3]
Ward was killed 19 May 3027 by Federated Suns forces before the Black Widow Company could
depart the world with the Bounty Hunter.[1][13]
BattleMech:
Alex Ward was known to have piloted a STG-3R Stinger BattleMech.[1][3][2]
