Overview:
    The Emu is an attempt by the Canoveri to recreate the BSK-MAZ Bull Shark prior to finding
    out that the Wild Hunt managed to fully recover the mech. The Emu, though, is not an assault
    mech but a heavy, with the Thumper cannon mounted on a Catapult chassis during concept
    testing.
    
    The Canoveri decided to continue developing the design even with the recovery of the full
    specifications of the Bull Shark, in order to give the MAF (or other clients) a cheaper
    platform for the Thumper cannon and act as a fire support and anti-fast vehicle,
    anti-infantry unit.
    
    At 65 tons, the Emu can also be produced when necessary at the Canopus plant of Majesty
    Metals, with sourcing of the Thumper cannon the only real issue.

Capabilities:
    While the Wolverines who managed to flee to the Rimward Periphery and on to the Magistracy
    of Canopus understand how and why the Dobrev was lost, they still regretted some of the
    items in the ship. One of them was the BSK-MAZ Bull Shark.
    
    When the now-named Canoveri began to make designs for the MAF, their thoughts kept coming
    back to the lost mech. Without the technical specifications, they couldn't even remember by
    that time what it was, only that it had a Thumper Cannon and was an assault mech.
    
    Because the latter was a problem for the Magistracy until more production facilities could
    be brought online, the Canoveri decided to try and design a mech with the INTENT of the Bull
    Shark, if not its size and specifications: a direct fire support BattleMech, as strongly
    suggested by the Thumper Cannon.
    
    To this end, the Catapult chassis was chosen as a platform. Sure enough, with only some
    minor modifications, the Canoveri were able to stuff a Thumper Cannon on the Catapult. They
    gave it two tons of ammunition: one ton for 20 standard shells, and another for Fuel-Air
    Explosive rounds, especially lethal against infantry and light vehicles.
    
    Additional weapons were two LR5 racks to give the Emu a bit of standard long-range
    capabilities. If anything gets in close, two Medium Lasers and an SR4 rack would meet them.
    
    Because the Thumper Cannon is a direct line-of-sight weapon, the Canoveri chose to retain
    the Catapult's jump jets so the MechWarrior piloting the mech can reposition up heights for
    better fields of fire.

Deployment:
    Partly due to materials issues and limited access to Thumper Cannon units, only a few of the
    Emu were actually made, with a few of the units kludged together by the Wild Hunt using
    their own supply of the weapon placed onto "Emu-build" Catapults.
    
    On the eve of the Andurien-Canopus invasion of House Liao in 3030, there were perhaps only a
    dozen or so Emus throughout the MAF and Wild Hunt.
