Overview:
The Spetum was originally introduced between the First and Second Succession Wars as part of
an effort to reinvigorate the declining technology base and arms market of the Inner Sphere,
before the true scope of humanity's decline and the fruitlessness of such endeavors had
become clear. In an effort to cut corners, Spetum's production model, the STM-2G, ended up a
hyper-specialized and largely ineffective machine. The armaments and armor distribution
could be generously described as "eccentric," resulting in a mech that could only do one
thing, required extensive support to function, and would fold almost immediately if it came
under fire in non-optimal circumstances. Ultimately, only a few Spetums were built and like
most mediocre mechs, most them ended up stripped for parts and forgotten.

Centuries later, Luthien Resurrectionist Inc. (LRI), a subsidiary of Luthien Armor Works
dedicated to recreating older designs, found the Spetum's schematics in an ancient hard
drive. LRI applied weight-saving technologies to create a battlemech that, while still just
as specialized as the original Spetum, now had the ability to carry out its intended
mission. The Combine government ultimately rejected the Spetum STM-5G, but allowed LRI to
sell the design to the mercenary market, where it has been somewhat popular with larger
outfits who can afford to buy such a focused machine.

Despite Luthien Resurreectionist Inc.'s efforts to rebrand the Spetum as the Kitaguchi -
naming it after an ancient Terran javelin-throwing olympiad - the original name has stuck.
It isn't uncommon, however, to find the Spetum STM-5G also marketed as the Kitaguchi KTG-1G.

The STM-5Ga is a field refit that replaces two of the LRM-5s with two additional ammunition
bins, giving the Spethum a little added endurance for extended engagements.

Capabilities:
Unlike the original Spetum STM-2G, the STM-5G is faster than most of the things it wants to
shoot at, the development that breathed new life into the defunct design. Although the
Spetum lacks any special ability to fire accurately on the move, its jump jets allow it to
find a good vantage point - someplace inaccessible and with cover - from which to rain
missiles down on its targets. Those jump jets, as well as the mech's overall high speed,
also help the Spetum STM-5G to escape if the enemy is able to close with it. Some users
report that the Spetum's mobility makes it particularly well-suited to indirect fire, making
it ideal for cooperation with units equipped with target acquisition gear or NARC beacon
    launchers.

The Spetum's fans also point to the versatility afforded by its many individual launchers
and ammunition bins. Although it will still run dry over the course of a standard
engagement, this configuration gives the Spetum's pilot the ability to manage their
machine's heat and ammunition use very precisely, only giving each shot as many missiles as
the situation calls for. Additionally, the Spetum's many bins allow it to make use of many
alternative ammunition types - it isn't at all uncommon for Spetums to be deployed with two
bins of conventional missiles (or TAG or NARC capable missiles, if the rest of its force is
equipped appropriately) and two bins of specialty missiles, such as smoke or thunder
    munitions.

The Spetum STM-5G has the the following Design Quirks: Cowl, Exposed Actuators, and
    Multi-Trac.

Variants:
The only variant of the Spetum (or Kitaguchi) is the STM-5Ga (or KTG-1Ga), a field refit
that replaces two of the LRM-5s with two more bins of LRM ammunition. This refit has been
popular enough that several third-party manufacturers have released modification kits. LRI's
petitions to their parent company for funds to market their own refit kit have thus far been
    politely ignored.
