Overview:
If you are reading this, you get to know fear and hopelessness.
Given a Combat Ranking budget of 1000 and the need for a light mech, I have the capability
to end the first grand melee of the 3082 Solaris Games in seconds. There are several
components to this plan, but the main one is drones. Drones were simply allowed to be used,
only being counted against teh Combat Ranking Budget. Have you ever considered just how
affordable Drones can be? And what can be mounted on them? For a measly 79 points of
Combat Ranking I can bring forth a 25 ton Support VTOL capable of producing a plasma ball 5
times hotter then the infamous Davy Crockett nuclear munitions. Admittedly the blast is
smaller so it dissipates more quickly precluding the wide spread destruction of such a
weapon. And I only need 12 of them to saturate an entire arena. But I can only control 1
at a time you say? Thats where the Multi-plexor comes into play. A drone drone control
node that has 2 jobs. The first is to control 12 other drones, and second is to mount a
RISC Viral Decoy Jammer, protecting my precious control links just long enough. It only
costs 211 of my Combat Rating budget. For those keeping track, this would put me well over
budget already, but there is a final card to play. The poor fools who I shall put into the
pilot seats are expendable untrained... persons... who were sourced from a back alley
somewhere in solaris city, or so I am told. They only need to do 2 things. Park the mech on
the ground, and push the button telling the drones to move into the correct blast pattern.
Maybe they'll live. If they do I expect them to be dead within a week from overdosing since
they'll get to keep their prize money instead of the 50 Cbills I would of offered them.
Stupid mechwarrior union that they had to sign up with in order to participate.
Now this entire system has required a considerable outlay of resources, especially on short
notice to have the drones and mech constructed. It hardly maters. The bylaws of the league
promise to "Repair" damaged equipment, though I expect their lawyers to attempt to weasel
out of the millions of Cbills required to "repair" the suicide drones. And of course the
"Winnings" for victory are suspiciously non disclosed, but also not a problem. The real
money is in the betting pools around this match. The Odds given that an untrained drug
addict off the streets will be able to even rank, let alone possibly win are juicy juicy
action indeed. I have of course made sure to promise appropriate kickbacks to those in
power, they hate it when someone just takes their money.
Deployment:
The Mastermind was never seen in combat. Its owner disappeared, and all of the drones and
their multi-plexing software was damaged beyond recovery. Jerry and Rick as the
mechwarriors on record for the Mastermind inherited it. It was sold for parts to the
company that built it, the proceeds being split between its pilots and their tech crews.
They both were admitted to involuntary rehab 2 days later where they received the help they
needed going on to live normal lives afterwards.
