Overview:
Developed by the State on the Deep Periphery planet of Kalyxa-5, the Zebulun ZBLN25-E was
one of the State’s earlier mechanized infantry carrier designs. Although later vehicles
would eventually surpass it in overall performance, the Zebulun was considered highly
respectable when first introduced. It combined strong armor, reliable tracked mobility, a
fusion power plant, and enough infantry capacity to move a full platoon of foot infantry
under armor.
The Zebulun was built around a rugged 25-ton tracked chassis protected by 7 tons of standard
armor. For a vehicle of its size and role, this gave it substantial battlefield durability,
especially across the front, sides, and turret. Its armor allowed the Zebulun to move
infantry through contested ground and endure punishment that would disable less protected
transports. Like other State-produced combat vehicles, the Zebulun was built to a high
manufacturing standard, with a reputation for reliability, long service life, and tolerance
for rough operating conditions.
Power was provided by a 150-rated fusion engine, giving the Zebulun a maximum speed of 97.2
km/h. This made it fast enough to keep pace with light armored formations and deliver
infantry quickly to key terrain. The use of a fusion engine also reduced its dependence on
fuel resupply compared to internal-combustion carriers, an important advantage during
extended deployments or dispersed operations far from secure logistics hubs.
The Zebulun’s armament was intentionally modest. A single turret-mounted Medium Laser gave
the vehicle a reliable weapon, allowing it to provide covering fire for its infantry. The
weapon was not powerful enough to make the Zebulun a front-line combat tank, but it was
adequate for defending itself while the carried troops deployed. Its 4-ton infantry bay
allowed it to carry 24 foot troopers, making the Zebulun a practical mechanized infantry
carrier.
As the State’s military technology advanced, the Zebulun was gradually shelved in favor of
newer and more capable infantry carriers. Large numbers remained in storage, however, many
of them in excellent condition and some still practically new. Rather than scrap these
vehicles, the State began selling stockpiles of Zebuluns to Inner Sphere allies, friendly
planetary governments, militias, and mercenary commands seeking affordable mechanized
infantry capability. For forces that needed a reliable way to move infantry under armor, the
Zebulun offered a simple answer: an older State machine, built to last, still ready for war.
