Overview:
In the early 3020?s, even before the end of the Third Succession War, engineers at Corean
Enterprises were given the directive to develop a new light ?Mech that would be faster and
better armed than most others in their weight class while still having significant amounts
of armor.
They managed the first criteria, and mostly fulfilled the second, but fell far short on the
last with their prototype. Originally called the ?Quickling?, the design was quickly
nicknamed the ?Fireball? because it quickly crashed and burned.
Capabilities:
Mounting a massive (for its size) type 200 fusion engine, the Corean prototype could make an
easy 108 kph at cruising speed, and capable of reaching speeds over 160 kph at flank speed,
this ?Mech is capable of outpacing any other design of the era. Its armament included a
medium laser and a twin pack of short range missiles fed by a ton of ammo, allowing it to at
least match most other 20 ton designs in firepower. Where it alls short is armor.
Equipped with a mere 1.5 tons of armored plate, the design cannot withstand hits from
virtually any battlefield weapon. For this reason, the prototype failed its trials and was
mothballed until some 30 years later.
Deployment:
Although the initial prototype was a design deadend at the time, it was revived after the
recovery of Star League era technology and the invasion of the Clans. The modifications made
it it at that time made it even faster, and finally gave it the armor its original designers
meant it to have. And this time, the ?Mech proudly took on the formerly derisive nickname
?Fireball? as its own, named such not because of its failure, but because of its success.
