Variants:
    During the development for the MAD-3L variant of House Liao, the engineers got their hands
    on rare blueprints of early Marauder prototypes. One of those stood out to them, as it
    displayed some similarities to the conversion kit they were currently working on. The
    resulting MAD-3Lb turned out to be a Mech only suited for veteran pilots though. Not only
    had the Dalban electronics arguably be downgraded by software modifications to adress the
    changes, the heat load was also much harder to manage.
    
    Most of the original design features couldn't be met by the standards of the time. The
    prototype was a testbed for all kinds of advanced and experimental technologies, some of
    which were only seen on rare Star League designs. Others were unheard of. It had a lighter
    kind of spaced armour, a hardened structure that was not endosteel, and electronics even
    more advanced than the highly praised Dalban systems.
    
    More obscure were an early kind of double heat sinks that were upgraded by unknown measures
    (note: triple heat sinks?), jump jets that apparently even worked under water and on top of
    that superior ranges on all weapons. Still, under all that LosTech was the concept of a
    functioning BattleMech and the team of engineers would not stop until they made it work with
    the technologies at hand.
    
    The main change was the removal of the AC/5 and ammo bin. Instead a Defiance B3L Large Laser
    was center-built into a similar Directional Torso Mount for better fire arcs. Like with the
    MAD-3L the number of heat sinks was raised to 18. The remaining tonnage was then used to
    improve the armour protection, especially around the torso sides and the curved stilt-like
    legs as shown in the prototype blueprints.
    
    While a pilot still wouldn't have been able to fire all weapons without danger to their
    health, the added heat sinks made firing both PPC's at once a viable option. When an enemy
    was too close for effective PPC fire, the pilot switched to the lasers at comparable damage
    levels. Early simulation runs showed great potential when deployed together with a Stalker,
    as both Mechs follow the same doctrine of overlapping fire arcs.
    
    In the end the Mech was never produced in full due to its elitist approach, but the
    conversion kit was hence available to order for Liao officers in case a promising pilot
    would emerge. Two of the most prominent and successful users of this kit were Marions
    Highlanders and McCarron's Armored Cavalry. The Big Mac even fielded two lances that enabled
    the complementing Stalker to march by such a Marauder's side.
