Overview:
When Clan Hell's Horses' Eurus MBT program stalled out, it was decided that a stopgap was
needed. In 3116, this resulted in the Proto-Eurus. The ideal of a cavalry OmniVehicle with
ferro-lamellor armor would remain decades away, yet some of those capabilites could be put
into production immediatly. The Proto-Eurus was initially poorly recieved by the Hell's
Horses Touman for being too slow, too lightly armed, and too reliant on fuel. These problems
prevented its adoption by the clan, and the entire stock was sold off to varius client
states in the Barrens. Several of those made deals with the Clan for continued production,
as its capabilites were outstanding compared to the usual fare available in the periphery.
When operating with those nations, it gained the deignation "Hestia" at the clan's request,
as to not taint the reputation of the later Eurus.
Capabilities:
While bearing a striking resemblance to the later Eurus, the Hestia features many notable
differences. First is the use of an underpowered 180 rated fuel cell instead of the 300
rated extralight fusion engine. A mixed missile/kinetic loadout of a HAG/20 and SSRM4
provide a lighter weapons load than what could be fit into 23 tons of pod space the Eurus
carried. The lack of Omni technology and limited post-production support led to no
additional variants being made. What the Hestia did carry was exceptional protection. 15
tons of case-protected ferro-lamellor armor, an ecm suite, and twin anti-missile systems all
contribute towards an extremely survivable tank. All for significantly cheaper and easier to
maintain than even the cheapest of BattleMechs of comparable weight. It also carries solid
targeting and sensor systems, with a targeting computer, laser target designator, and active
probe. Lastly, an extended fuel tank and enough ammunition for several minutes of sustained
firing complement its high durability.
Deployment:
First serving amongst the warrior caste of the Republic of the Barrens and the Taran's World
Militia, the Hestia gained its name from the surprisingly high crew survival percentage.
This became the official name for the tank after a request from Clan Hell's horses. The
Hestia saw significant conflict with in the late 3130s to early 3140s, quickly gaining a
reputation among New Oberon Confederation and Ferris Collective as a dangerous opponent to
be respected.
