The gauss rifle gives that variant a real nasty punch and the ability to cut a head off with one hit. But this comes with some drawbacks: It is now ammo dependent and has an item that can explode. The shortrange firepower is somewhat lowered too. The change from a small laser to a CASE is a good one here. Another problem is the placement of all heavy weapons on one side as an exploding gauss rifle will often take out the large lasers too. |

I prefer this variant over the 1GLS. The loss of some firepower is acceptable if i can rip off another mech's head at 22 hexes.
The limited JJs also allow the mech to jump to more advantageous spots for Gauss rifle sniping. |

Simply one of the best heavy 'mechs of the 3050s. It runs nice and cool, the Gauss rifle and large lasers deliver a very impressive punch, and it's no slouch defensively either. My only problem is the decision to install a pulse laser over giving it full jump capability. |

Superficially similar to the 1GLS, except for the weapons. Im not sure that swapping out the ER PPC for a guass rifle is such a good idea. The damge inflicted is incresed byt 50%, but the weapons dependancy on armor handicaps the weapon. The gauss lowers the heat output to more manageable levels, though. If youre going to use this one, keep some J-27s handy. Running out of gauss round with this mod is abad idea. |

One of my all-time favorites.
The Good:
Survivability - Decent armor at 12 tons combined with a standard engine make it hard to kill. Unfortunately, while it carries no ammo, that ever-so-useful gauss rifle can explode.
Firepower - featuring the above-mentioned gauss rifle. It's always nive to be able to do 15 points of damage at long range. The twin large lasers aren't too shabby either. Unfortunately, the only other backup weapon is the medium pulse laser on the left arm.
The Bad:
Strangely enough, firepower - the total available firepower is only a mximum of 37 points. Most of it can be done at medium to long range, which is good. Basically, if you're close enough to be able to use the medium pulse laser, you might be too close for maximum effectiveness.
BV - the gauss rifle and jump capability make this one expensive. (for that matter, the BV of gauss rifles is always too high. There was a typo in the old IS table which later became the standard BV value.) The GAL-1GLS may be the better bet in terms of BV although this one is usually better in terms of combat capability.
The Average:
Heat management - fire everything and overheat by 1. Not bad, not great. If you jump the maximum distance of 3 while doing so you overheat by 4. That is acceptable for a turn. But it means dropping out a weapon, not moving, or taking heat side effects the following turn.
Mobility - average for a heavy with limited jump.
