Overview:
Blackstone would push out the Advanced Quad Program (AQP) in the late Dark Age. This would
be in part due to a nationalist reactionary response by the Companies leadership in the face
of repeated disasters experienced by the Lyran Commonwealth at that time, as well as some
good old fashion greed, or desire to capitalize on potential market opportunities. This
program would focus on the general concepts of quad design, how their advantages could best
be utilized, and how these advantages could be merged with advanced technologies to maximum
effect. A decade long study involving some of the brightest minds at Blackwell would take
place carefully examining a litany of previous and current quad designs, and many
discussions on how various technologies could be incorporated to enhance the basic quad
concept. At the conclusion of the study the think tank would submit their results as well as
five potential prototypes for further development. Blackwell's leadership impressed with the
result of the study would select two of the five designs for continued development. The
Gorgon later designated the GON-1S would be one of these designs. Between the two offerings
the Gorgon would be considered the more valuable and premium design (this view would have
consequences for the sister design later on). Designed as a slow moving behemoth able to
strike down targets from afar the Gorgon would incorporate several imported clan
technologies.
Capabilities:
The Gorgon GON-1S would come with a 340 light fusion engine. Paired with its 25.5 tons of
hardened armor (204 pips) this would allow the mech a top speed of 54/ kh and a normal
cruising speed of 42/ kh. Imported clan endo-steal would be also utilized to free up
tonnage. The defining feature of the design would be its massive turret which would house
the majority of the of the mech's weapons. These would include two Clan ER-Large Lasers and
a Clan LRM20 w/ art IV. An er-medium laser would provide secondary fire power. All lasers
would be linked to a Targeting computer, and the LRM would be supplied with 3 tons of CASE
II protected ammo. 15 double heatsinks would be provided for cooling purposes.
