Overview:
    amok (adjective) with frenzied or uncontrollable behavior; in a murderous frenzy. From
    Tagalog.
    
    The Amok was developed for close quarters assault. A hundred ton machine, it is armed with a
    pair of hatchets and triple strength myomers.
    
    With a dozen double heat sinks integrated into a 300-class engine, the Amok would be
    conventionally thought of as a woefully undercooled machine. Armed with an extended range
    particle cannon for suppressive fire and defense against long range attackers, it is not the
    main weapon of this machine. It's head mounted small laser is for use against infantry. But
    it would be fair to group them with the shoulder mounted anti-missile system and the
    nineteen tons of armour as "defensive" equipment.
    
    It attacks under the cover of suppressing fire, and at 270 meters it triggers the SRM-6.
    Usually this is loaded with Infernos, spiking the temperature of the target or at least
    giving the Amok a puddle of fire to stand in. When it reaches the 180 meter mark, most Amok
    pilots actually safe the SRM and the PPC, and instead attack with the eight medium pulse
    lasers in the chest. The heat sinks are able to handle six of them- just enough undissipated
    heat to trigger the TSMs. And then, it has the pulse lasers still. And a pair of seven ton
    hatchets, each of which hits like an AC/20 when the heat is on. Very few mechs under 70 tons
    can survive more than a few seconds of the Amok's fury, and even its fellow hundred tonners
    can not stand up to it for long without retreating.
    
    Intended to be partnered with longer ranged mechs, it has been proposed that the small
    pulser be removed for a target designator pod, and others have proposed replacing the SRM-6
    with a NARC beacon. Because when dealing with an angry axe murderer, who doesn't want to
    have LRMs raining down on them? But so far, the prototype as only been in gladiatorial
    combat. In it's debut bout, both hatchet landed on the cockpit of a burning Battlemaster.
    
    An alternative configuration has been proposed that removes the PPC in favor of a second
    SRM-6 and jump jets. The second prototype Amok chassis is being built with a 60m jump
    capability. If that gets behind you, the lasers rip the armour off, then it starts to
    whittle on the
    insides of your mech. Several mercenary units have expressed interest in that configuration.
    
    
    Of course, all this firepower comes at a price. Many mechwarriors are used to just running
    up and alpha striking at their opponent, their tactics no more advanced than bull rushing
    head down, which could trigger an instant shutdown for the Amok. Instead, the heat has to be
    managed so it is elevated at the last minute so that the hatchets can be used with their
    full, homicidal intent.
