Overview:
First flown in 2611 during the age of the Star League the Mule was designed as a fast high
capacity infantry transport with the ability to support its infantry with considerable
firepower.
Capabilities:
The Mule lives up to its name by being able to haul up to three platoons of foot infantry
with up to 162 km/h close to the ground. Its compartment can be reconfigured to hold nine
tons of standard cargo in almost no time. Two medium lasers deliver a hefty punch for a
heavy transport; A Lance of them could easily chase away or even destroy light armor and
light mechs.
But after some time the Mule was found lacking in armor and any substantial anti-infantry
capacity.
Deployment:
The venerable Lockheed/CBM Corporation delivered the Mule to the SLDF in large quantities.
But over the years of the Succession Wars their numbers declined sharply. Especially in the
later years many of them were squandered by using them as makeshift gunboats or by removing
the now valuable fusion engines.
Variants:
After the first combat missions many were equipped in the field with additional
anti-infantry weaponry like two sidemounted machineguns and a front mounted vehicular
grenade launcher. This reduced the cargo capacity to seven tons.
In the later days of the Succession Wars some were used with internal combustion engines,
swapping the lasers to front or side mounted machineguns. These were able to carry up to
eight tons.
