Variants:
    The IcarusII “Infernicus” is a new model of this tried and true BattleMech that is
    beginning to be fielded by some units within the Marian Hegemony Armed Forces. In an unusual
    decision, this BattleMech is a multi-role model, capable of engaging other BattleMechs and
    Armored targets, but it has also been designed to be highly lethal versus infantry units. To
    this end, the heavy, if deadly, type 10 autocannon and its ammunition has been replaced with
    an advanced plasma rifle with two tons of ammunition. This weapon is dangerous to almost all
    opponents, as well as being a terror weapon. Another change that is effective against most
    opponents is the switch from a standard small laser laser to a small x-pulse laser. To make
    the machine extremely lethal versus infantry, it has been equipped with a standard flamer in
    each side torso, a pair of machine guns with a half ton of ammo in the right arm, and
    finally, a heavy flamer with a single ton of fluid, also in the right arm. Each leg has also
    been given an anti-personnel pod to help prevent swarm attacks. Ground speed has also been
    improved to almost 100kph and jump radius to 180 meters. However, this required an
    extra-light engine, an extra-light gyro and a switch to endo-steel internal structure. Due
    to the difficulty of manufacture of many of these components in the Hegemony, and the more
    specialized nature of this design, very few are currently in the field. In fact, BattleMech
    technicians have to receive special training to ensure they have the knowledge required to
    work on this BattleMech.
