Overview:
    The Malassay was conceived after the end of the reunification wars. Light mechs, sent out
    for scouting and observation, had been ambushed and destroyed at an alarming rate. Hosono
    MFG looked to break into the lucrative mech business with a design that aimed to fix these
    perceived flaws, carrying 50% more armour and over double the firepower of the Locust with
    only a small reduction in top speed. No expense was spared during the design process, with a
    custom chassis and electronics suite developed in-house. This would almost be the companies
    undoing when the initial trials for the SLDF proved a disaster. While the chassis was
    fundamentally sound several major flaws were discovered in it's systems and attempts to fix
    these problems would lead nowhere. Forced to withdraw from the trials and desperate to
    recoup costs, the mech underwent a rapid re-working largely consisting of removing it's
    problematic, cutting edge, custom hardware and replacing it with older, well understood and
    cheap to licence components. It was then shipped off to the house militaries where it was
    trialed "much more successfully". Having managed to secure purchase orders the production
    was quickly licensed to almost any local manufacturer they could find, with Hosono MFG
    establishing local offices to provide technical support in a move that proved to be
    surprisingly profitable. This served to spread the design far across the inner sphere and,
    whilst it never supplanted them, it would find a nieche leading lances of the lighter mechs
    it was intended to replace.
