A straight and easy upgrade of the Succession War aera -5SS.
CASE, full armor and a standard engine make it a survivor.
Heat isn´t a problem any more and the weapon loadout will give opponents a headache at close range. |

The 9S Thunderbolt is geared toward short range firefights, where it can outlast the enemy thanks to it's heavy armour. Forget about bracketing with this one. There is no minimal range for the PPC and the heat sinks can handle the heat, so don't worry about running whole day and firing everything (with the exception of the flamers of course). Just try to get in range and blast till your enemy drops. Don't try to use this in a ranged firefight tough, you'll receive as much as you give if not more. That's hardly a good deal if you are fighting against mediums refusing to come closer. |

Not a bad ride, but it just don't feel like a TDR. It has a decent weapons load, but not on par with the original or the 7M. |

This upgrade always leaves me scratching my head. They pull the LRM rack and the ER Large for close in weapons and an ER PPC. Pulling the LRM for close in weapons, makes sense, but the ER Large for an ER PPC then makes less sense, as the ER PPC creates more heat and has a minimum that people can get under now that you want to close to 30 meters.
Basically unless your steiner you should be piloting the 7M variant because its a much more interesting beast to play in. |

Not a bad design, but this one seems...off.
The ER PPC is a weapon I always knew someone would toss on this beast. The SRMs are good for in close fighting and are complimented by the medium lasers. Heck, its a natural pairing.
What bugs me is the flamers and MGs on this thing. This stuff is geared more towards infantry than mechs. Well. maybe for light mech killing, but anything bigger than about 25 tons will just laugh.
The antimissile system makes sense, as the PPC is the only weapon that this mech has for ranged fights. One PPC is not going to deter a missile boat, meaning that the PPC is best used to cover its approach to a target.
This mech is best used to guard installations, or to enter cities to flush out lighter units, but I wouldnt be in too much of a hurry to put it into a ranged shootout. |
