Overview:
The 60 ton weapons carrier is quintessential. So it comes as no suprise that the Clans have
a Mech Mortar carrier. Traditionally a rare weapon system, in the hands of an experienced
commander the addition of even a few mortar systems can be a great force multiplier.

Capabilities:
The latest iteration of the Mech Mortar Carrier carries 5 launchers. This seems like fewer
launchers then could be expected, but the salvo per ton ratio is so poor that additional
ammo capacity replaces the expected 6th launcher. The engine is kept cheap and light, using
a fuel cell to get the carrier upto technically mobile speeds. This is not considered a
problem normally since the inaccuracy of mortars needs to be compensated for with the
stability of stationary firing positions. A Mortar carrier is happiest when its out of
sight. TAG is included for cases where the Mortar Carrier has dirrect line of sight to its
target, and it needs accurate targeting information. Otherwise the Mortar Carrier prefers
to rely on good spotting data, or if all else fails holographic sensors to track its
    target's position.

Deployment:
Ferro-lamellor armor is the bane of Mortar Carriers. It simply shrugs off the prefered air
burst rounds. The fact that it even exists forces Mortar Carriers to divert some of their
limited ammo capacity to the much less effective shaped charge style of warhead.

When Ferro-lamellor armor isnt a factor, a single Mortar Carrier is usually capable of
engaging several other vehicles with good effect. There was one instance where a single
Heavy Mortar Carrier disabled an entire Lance of heavy tanks in a single salvo. In more
recent history, a single Mortar Carrier destroyed three SRM Carriers in less then a minute,
preventing an advance from being stalled by excessivly dangerous zones of fire.

Variants:
Carriers come in wide varieties. The basic concept of many guns go on vehicle is so
fundamental that everyone comes up with their own version. In the case of this branch of
the Carrier family, the previous iteration mounted a turret. The cost was fewer reserve
salvos and no TAG. Inclusion of those features is what prompted the latest update.
