Overview:
    From XTRO: Project Zhukov Expanded (clan military equipment 3105 section).
    
    As part of their ongoing efforts to integrate with the former Rasalhague Republic?s people
    and military, the Ghost Bear Dominion raised several Clusters of Rasalhague MechWarriors
    from second line forces into front line commands, eventually forming three full Galaxies of
    volunteers and recruits from their Spheroid populace. Khan and Prince Ragnar Magnusson, in
    recognition of the unity between his people and those they once saw as their enemy, ordered
    the creation of a new Mech that would be a point of pride for Trueborn and Freebirth alike
    and would embrace both the Bear and Rasalhague way of warfare.
    As was to be expected with many Bear/Dominion blueprints, they made a large design,
    partially based on the Kodiak, a fearsome 100-ton assault Mech that was popular in front and
    second line forces due to its tremendous short to mid-range firepower. Many Rasalhague
    MechWarriors enjoyed the brutality of close quarter combat and the Dominion was already
    catering to this. Mechs like the Karhu Prime, for example, featured a huge bladed claw in
    the right hand. This was recognized and then exemplified in the new Mech that would be
    designated as the Cave Bear.

Capabilities:
    Much like the Kodiak, the Cave Bear is built for mid to short range
    combat. However, the Cave Bear?s primary focus is on melee combat. To
    get it into close quarters as quickly as possible, the Mech is powered by a
    huge 400 rated XL engine which can propel it up to 64kph. This then
    jumps up to over 80kph when the engine?s supercharger is activated and
    to over 100kph when the Mech?s triple strength myomers are activated by
    high enough heat levels. This makes the Cave Bear one of, if not the
    fastest Mech of its size ever made.
    For firepower the Mech relies on a single ER PPC for long range
    targets. At shorter ranges, a quartet of ER Medium lasers can be brought
    to bare as well as a massive LB-20X autocannon which can alternately
    fire massive cluster rounds at targets or more common shots to rip holes
    in a target?s armour. It is in melee, however, that the Mech is a true terror.
    Its hands have been reworked into massive claws, each given additional
    hydraulic power and the claws themselves are tipped with industrial
    diamonds for additional strength and cutting power. When the Mech?s
    TSM is active, a single blow from one of the huge claw like hands can rip
    a hostile Mech?s arm clean off or sunder the armour on all but the most
    heavily protected Mechs. A kick can be equally as devastating.

Deployment:
    Because of its focus on melee, the Mech was given over to
    Rasalhague Officers and highly decorated Warriors as a sign of favour
    and trust, whilst Trueborn Warriors would use Mech?s like the Kodiak II in
    a similar role though, unlike the Cave Bear, the Kodiak II focused on long
    range firepower. The 1st Drakøn Cluster was the first unit in the Domin-
    ions Touman to receive the Cave Bear and it became an instant hit,
    working well with their renowned berserker charges and their few
    Berserker Mechs as well as other similar Mechs that were equipped for
    melee combat, like the growing number of Karhu?s already in service.
    During the invasion of the Derion Prefecture following the bombing of
    the Dominion?s Blood Chapel and death of the Prince, the Cave Bear
    made an immediate and very bloody introduction to the DCMS forces that
    were caught up in the Dominion?s assault. On Derion, itself one Star of
    Cave Bears, the five that had escorted the Khan and Prince?s body to his
    final resting place were known as the Black Bears and were greatly
    feared by Combine troops. Painted a solid matte black with red highlights
    on their Mech?s claws and around their eyes, the Black Bear?s ripped
    through Combine tanks, mech?s and fortifications, as well as literally
    decapitating several Combine Mech units in headhunter attacks on unit
    commanders.
    Some of the Dominion?s oldest and more hidebound traditionalists did
    grumble about the resources spent on the Cave Bear, but its
    performance in battle silenced any criticism and the Dominion has taken
    great steps to ensure that no Cave Bear is taken as a prize by hostile
    forces. Neither have any been offered up for trade. Being assigned a
    Cave Bear is a decision that comes all the way from the Dominion?s
    military command and is not something given out lightly. A Warrior?s
    record is reviewed and checked to make sure that he or she is not only a
    superbfighter, but one who fights and conducts themselves with honour
    and humility. And, once assigned, a Cave Bear cannot be claimed in a
    Trial of Possession by another Warrior, only through a Trial of Position
    that is given consent by the Galaxy Commander may such a battle be
    fought.
