Overview:
The Polyphemus, also know as CP-11-PYPH, was a command mech that could coordinate with
allies thanks go it's advanced command console, and would back it up with devastating long
ranged firepower, though it didn't lack in terms of short ranged damage. Built by Rhea and
Adonis Galonis, a married pair of dispossessed MechWarriors, they created it after stumbling
on a lostech cache that included an old Cyclops with an endosteel skeleton that looked like
it was abandoned in the middle of repairs. The used the plentiful lostech to rebuild this
Cyclops into a terrifying command and control mech, which became known as Polyphemus.
Capabilities:
The Polyphemus 's main armament was a Star League Norse-Storm Model 7D Gauss Rifle, backed
up by a Holly-15 Rack equipped with an Artemis IV fire control system and a Ceres Arms
Smasher PPC. This long ranged firepower can demolish any mech in a single volley, and the
mech's 11 double heatsinks keep it cool. For point blank engagements, the Polyphemus is
equipped with three Defiance B3M Medium lasers and two Hovertech Quad SRM-4 packs, which
were also equipped with Artemis IV launchers. While not particularly terrifying on their
own, combined with fire from a gauss rifle this made close range engagements as terrifying
as long range engagements. One of the Key features of the Polyphemus was it's command
console, which was among the lostech cache. This allows the mech to have one commander and
one pilot, enabling the commander to be able to better coordinate his force from a forward
position.
Deployment:
When Rhea and Adonis arrived on Galatea in 3014, it caused quite a stir. Numerous employers
wanted their service after seeing the mech, and even more so when they discovered their
price was quite reasonable. They only had one unusual request: they asked to be placed in
charge of a company of mechs. The Free World's League quickly secured a contract with them,
placing them in control of a company stationed on Paxton. In their first battle, Rhea proved
to be a capable MechWarriors, felling 3 capellan raiders, and Adonis proved to be an
excellent commander, and it was his coordination of his company that allowed them to survive
numerous capellan ambush's and push the raiders off the planet. They defeated numerous raids
this way, cementing their place as Ace MechWarriors. When their two year contract was up,
the FWL offered to renew the contract, they declined and went to serve under House Kurita
instead, being given command over a company of Dieron Regulars. They served various great
houses and private corporations for the next few years, working as heads of security for
minor dukes and corporate executives. In 3027 representatives of House Davion offered a very
lucrative contract and the command of a battalion of mechs to sway the Galonis over to their
side. They fought the fourth succession war along the Suns-Combine border, working in
conjunction with other mercenary units such as the Wolf's Dragoons to hold the Dragon back.
They participated in the Battle of Northwind and their battalion was deployed to Klathandu
IV ad apart of the second wave of reinforcements. After the 4th Succession war, Rhea and
Adonis retired to Outreach to raise their family, but Polyphemus would see action in the
Clan Invasion with their twins, Jason and Sophia. Jason served as the pilot for the
venerable mech, while Sophia served as the commander. They engaged the Wolves in defense of
the Free Rasalhague Republic and also participated in the battle of Luthien, with Jason
managing to take down 4 Smoked Jaguar mechs before Polyphemus was crippled and had to be
taken off the field. After repairs were made, they participated in the Second Star League 's
Operation Bulldog. They later fought in the Chaos March on behalf of the Capellan
Confederation, and during the Fedcom civil war they fought on behalf of the Federated Suns.
Their last known engagement was on Outreach during the mercenary uprising. They coordinated
the defense of a nearby starport while their families and numerous other civilians boarded
dropships. Their wearabouts were lost in the Jihad.
