The base chassis has a massive 40 ton pod load while still being fully armored and able to keep up with the majority of assault mechs. 13 fixed heat-sinks are a good basis (as long as you don't make a low heat configuration) as they exploit the capacity of the engine. The CASE hadn't to be fixed though as a proposed energy-only config wouldn't need it but it doesn't hurt in any of the given configurations.
The prime configuration is versatile. The gauss is a strong weapon especially with that TC but up close the Templar starts getting really dangerous. It can dish out two alpha-strikes at full speed in a row without getting any problems. |

The Templar is one the best "stock" inner sphere mech designs in my opinion. It is also probably the only inner sphere heavy/assault mech with an XL engine that is actually worth anything.
What I think makes the Templar so good is versatility and all-around effectiveness. It can be deployed on its own or in a group, has a very good weapons load with good ranges for the most part, has pretty good heat effectiveness, and respectible speed. Throw in a targeting computer and you have a great all around mech. Plus it looks great too! The only weakness of this design comes from (big suprise) the XL engine in that the Templar is expensive and doesn't have the durablility of non-XL designs. |

A bit of everything here, this is a fair fleet footed assault mech. Just be weary of the XL engine u have there. The speed gives the mech some mobility to keep up with heavies.
Armor is heavy at max for its tonnage which is a good thing for an XL engine assault. The firepower is nicely rounded and supplemented by the TC which cant be bad. |

A lancer class assault where the XL really doesn't pose to much of a problem. The targeting laser is this mechs saving grace, linked with the gauss its lethal and the extra speed can keep it ahead of the other assaults and keep close to the heavies. The enemy really are in trouble when you close and let loose your large pulse laser, the targetng comp helps nail aimed shots and the streak plays havoc on holed areas.
Knocking off points for the XL isn't nessicary, not all assaults are brawlers, this one is a lancer, charge up with the long range weapon blazing, then core them as they get in range of your large short range arsenal. |

The weapons systems are pretty good here, especially if you're going to be fighting up close and personal. The XL engine irks me though, especially sense they could have mounted a standard engine for about the same weight, and gotten it to a 3/5 speed. As it is this will fall once those side torsos take any kind of punishment. |
