Overview:
Another 'Mech clandestinely produced and used during the uprising, the Grenadier was
designed as a fast fire support and recon unit. Featuring a weapon not normally found on
such a light unit--a large laser--and a speed only slightly less than that of the ancient
Locust, the GND-1A Grenadier was heartily welcomed among the seperatist camp. After the
fall of the League, the Grenadier became one of the core light 'Mechs of the TDF, remaining
in limited production until this day.
Capabilities:
With a top speed of 114.7 kilometers per hour, the Grenadier makes an exceptional recon
unit. However, with six tons of ArmorWorks Carbide Light Composte--just half a ton less
than that carried by the Bandit--it also has better protection than any other 'Mech with the
same or better speed. Arnament consists of a single Martin-Gordan Lance large
laser--throughly outclassing virtually every other 'Mech in the same weight and speed
bracket, back up by an anti-personnel weapon, the HWC Reaper machine gun.
Deployment:
The Grenadier served with distinction during the Uprising and was adopted Concordat-wide
soon thereafter when the Protector officially reformed the TDF in 2800. The 'Mech has
remained in limited production every since, mainly due to difficulties New Vandenberg
Mechanized Industries has had with it's production line on New Vandenberg. Rumor has it
that the Protector will soon order NVMI to license the design to other companies in the
Concordat to increase production. This has greatly upset Governor Shraplen, who has issued
a sharply-worded protest.
Variants:
There is one production variant of the Grenadier. The GND-1B model replaces the HWC Reaper
machine gun and ammo with a JI Flamelord flamer. About 20% of the Grenadiers in service
with the TDF are the -1B variant.
Notable MechWarriors:
Mechwarrior Dalton Hayes piloted his GND-1A Grenadier ('Big Sky') in an action against
Federated Suns 'Mechs on New Syrtis during the 3rd Succession War. Elements of the Syrtis
Fusiiers raided a Taurian world and successfully escaped with--among other treasures--the
daughter of Baron Leslie Barton. The Baron himself led his Noble Militia company to rescue
his daughter from the clutches of the Haseks. Hayes landed on New Syrtis and distinguished
himself during the fighting. At one point, he powered down his Grenadier and entered the
Hasek's palace on foot, retrieving Rebecca Barton. Rejoining his unit, Barton
withdrew--having lost no personnel, and only four 'Mechs. Eight months later, MechWarrior
Hayes wed Rebecca Barton in a ceremony on Ishtar.

I must agree that this thing is one of the best light LL carriers around. Fast and well armoured the Grenadier can be a nasty opponent. These 'Mechs are hard to use wrong unless the pilot is really dumb or there are some serious terrain restrictions. I take it tat this thing must be very unpopular sight for FS...

Fast and deadly. I am starting to notice a trend in your designs. (oher than the fact that they are all effective lol) and it's definitely a good one.
With all these great mechs at their disposal, it's a wonder why anyone even bothers to attack Concordat at all.

This Mech seems to be like the Hussar should have been ;) Not that fast but still faster than a lot of other Mechs and with the ability to weather some hits. The large laser delivers a heavy punch at a good range while the MG can deal with infantry. The only thing to worry about is the placement of the main weapon. In the right arm it has a good arc of fire but isn't covered by that much armor there.
