Overview:
    The L1-S1 Lightning Bolt is currently the fastest 'Mech in existence, topping 210 KPH,
    without MASC assistance. Originally, the design DID have MASC, but, due to weight
    considerations, at this point the ECM was non-existent. MASC was scrapped for three (3)
    reasons...
    
    
    
    1: Due to a major actuator malfunction, whenever the Lightning Bolt attempting to go more
    than 240KPH caused the MASC to ignite and burn all of the legs actuators, and also screw up
    the gyro. In successful MASC cases, the gyroscope acted up so severely the pilots often
    found the Mech knocked over, and this caused significant damage considering the speeds the
    Mech moved.
    
    2: A lack of an ECM unit made the Lightning Bolt an easier target, and with its tiny 3.5
    tons of ferro-fibrous armor, that is NOT a good thing.
    
    3: Using the MASC at such high speeds, even successfully, caused several test pilots to
    black out, and thus crash, or the pilot suffered a crash anyway, as when you are running
    256KPH, and theres a large building 50 meters ahead, your going to hit it.
    
    
    
    The Lightning Bolt project began in 3057, at which point the Federated Commonwealth salvaged
    several moderately large clan fusion reactors. The NAIS was authorized to conduct some high
    speed Mech experiments, and this is the creation of those. Currently, two lances of these
    extremely fast mechs exist, 1 lance in the now-Federated Suns, and the Lyran half made it
    off with the other lance. Originally, a full company existed.
    
    

Capabilities:
    The L1-S1 Lightning Bolt is, as noted above, the fastest Mech in existence. However, its
    armor, 3.5 tons of ferro-fiber, and its endo steel internal structure, make it quite
    expensive. Also, it mounts a 260XL clan engine, which is quite a monster even for most
    medium mechs. It took considerable re-wiring on the behalf of the NAIS, and Coventry Metal
    Works did most of the endo steel and ferro-fiber work. Once, however, the engine was hooked
    up, it achieved a 'walk' faster than the stock locust can go at top speed. The Mech itself
    is made from clan parts, despite its Inner Sphere origin. A light tag ensures that it can
    create a target for any number of Arrow IV systems to home in on. This capacity alone makes
    the Mech deadly. A common remark is the light TAGs range means that the Lightning Bolt must
    close in to its target, but, its high speed means that this is done with ease. Speed is
    again an asset, because its top speed of 210 KPH means that it is extremely hard to lock on
    with LRMs and Streak SRMs, making them fairly unsuitable against this. Lasers and ballistic
    weapons tend to work best due to the velocity that they have. A ER Medium Laser provides the
    Mech with its only directly damaging firepower. Earlier attempts at other weapon systems
    failed because of a lack of available weight, or insignificant firepower. The ER Medium
    Laser fit the bill, and made it to the final design.

Deployment:
    The Lightning Bolts in the Federated Suns half have found themselves moved around the Suns
    quite a bit, and have found no permanent assignment. The lance in the Lyran half have found
    themselves moved around in a similar manner. Of course, the lance destroyed in testing has
    not been deployed.
    
    
    
    When the Lightning Bolts are deployed, Mechs and vehicles sprouting Arrow IV systems are
    quite common, as the tag on such a fast Mech is quite an asset for directing Arrow IV
    missiles on target. A couple of these running around a base with enough artillery support
    can have it leveled in no time. Common deployment patterns tend to include paired Lightning
    Bolts matched up with a lance of Arrow IV Mechs, or Vehicles.
