Overview:
The PNT-9R Panther has long been regarded as a mainstay unit among the forces
of the Draconis Combine. Many fought during the Clan invasion, and some of
these found their way into the forces of the Nova Cats and Smoke Jaguars. The
Nova Cats, emulating their work with the Jenner, chose to upgrade and rebuild
the Panther, making it into a premiere light attack unit, designated by DCMS
intel as the Panther IIC.
Capabilities:
The Panther IIC is an upgrade of the original Panther in just about every way.
The Nova Cat scientists and techs started by stripping it down to the
structure, studying the arrangement, and creating an Endosteel copy for the
upgrade. They then installed a larger fusion plant, increasing the top speed
of the Panther by over 20 kph, and extending its jump range to 150 meters. The
original PPC was replaced with an extended range model of Clan design, and the
SRM-4 launcher was upgraded to Streak technology. An ER Medium Laser was added
as a second close in weapon. To protect the new Panther, 5.5 tons of
ferro-fibrous armor were installed. While not maximum armor, it often proves
to be more than enough, especially against Inner Sphere and second-line light
and medium Mechs.
Deployment:
All of the Nova Cats second-line forces field at least two Stars worth of this
design. The addition of the Pack Hunter has given the Panther a boost in
popularity; apparently the two designs work well together.

I would rather replace ES structure and FF armor with standard variants and remove two additional heat sinks and the laser for more armor. It would be cheaper and may be accepted as garrison mech.

Given the potential of switching from IS to Clan tech. This mech gains nothing in its core speciality but now will be forced to do something other than skirmish and city fight as its 5/8/5 rather than the slower 4/6/4.
You pay too much in this case for very little benefit with the larger engine. Although it is a standard so it bears using maybe.
Still this machine took a lion and made it little more than a target with this less than stellar upgrade.
It adds a medium laser and has less armour and a slightly faster ground speed. Now any light battlemech I want to fight medium weights with, I'd want every piece I could fit on it. So its mystifying for me.
Still the ER PPC on a light machine of the clan variety is worth a slightly better grade than the rest of the design makes it look.

The oft clannerized Panther in it's full glory.
What i'd like to see is a Panther design with some clan-tech welded to the frame. An anti-missile system would be a nice addition to this 'mech. It certainly spends enough time under fire.
I'm not exactly certain why Clan Nova Cat would decide to replicate the lion of the DCMS. I could see more of a standard body of Inner Sphere manufacture, with the Clan technology welded on.

This is a nice upgrade to the panther, however it is still a bit too slow. Using an ER Large Laser in place of the IS PPC would have been a better choice of replacement weapons, and would have allowed for a better seed increase.

Well this design does address some of the problems the speed is increased slightly but it is still slow for its weight class the gain of one point of armour is negligable.It does do a good job of addressing the heat issues and the increase in fire power is good.All in all an improverment but it still has room for more.
