This has a good mix of firepower and mobility wrapped in a rather thin shell of armor. I´ve played several engagements with a Dervish and about 50% of them vanished in a huge fireball as an arm-hit blowed up the SRM-ammo. So I will think of a Dervish much better if a ton of SRM-ammo is replaced by a ton of armor and the other ton SRM-ammo is placed somewhere in a torso.

Ah, the good ol' Dervish. I like this machine, and for a fairly simple, compartive reason...I like the Whitworth. Excusing costs and technology, and background like how hard it is to get one or the other, I prefer the Dervish. How I came to this is simple enough...
First Strike, and repeated fieldings of the Whitworth taught me to love it. But why is my opinion of the Whitworth important here? This thing is VERY similar in weapon load out. But it's faster. And I like speed.
Despite that, the stock Dervish has some weaknesses. But one of them is so simple, it's a field refit waiting to happen. The SRM launchers. I don't really care for them, but let's say you do. You still have one big glaring issue. The ammo. 100 shots is just entirely too many for a weapon the Dervish is hoping he'll never have to use. Drop a ton of ammo for a ton of armor and you've eclipsed the Whitworth.
Drop the launchers completely for 2 MLAS, and 2 HS (or armor if you fancy), and you've got a fast, tough, mid-tonnage support unit.
Overall, a good support unit for fast cavalry. I prefer it to the Griffin, since the Dervish can fight up close. Not very well...but he can do it.

The armor isn't too thick, but I see this mech as a mobile fire support (Actually one of the most nimble in 3025 era). Secondary weapons don't belong to the best, and primary aren't of the strongest either, but I don't think that this mech wants to have all enemy attention. This mech can deal a lot of damage if it keeps low profile. Heat sinks are just strong enough to keep the mech from overheating, if you use the weapons in brackets, but jumping may quickly overheat it, so watch your heat. This mech makes sense to me, so it must get a good rating.

The mech is a good light weight fire support unit but doesnt have the endurance to back it up for long engagements. Dropping 1 ton of SRM ammo is ideal (unless you are using infernos) and reduces the amount of ammo this thing mounts.
As for the extra tonnage freed, either a ton of armor or LRM-10 ammo. Its your call.

Nice all round support mech best used within a medium/heavy lance, good when archers or catapaults arent an option. JJ's allow it to get into good firing spots and the SRMs and Med Lasers give it that little bit of pinch at close range.
