Overview:
Produced only in limited numbers, the ZEU-6H model of the Zeus was considered a promising
prototype. Produced in response to the Lyran high command's order for a new assault 'mech,
the ZEU-6H was conceived as a unit capable of successfully engaging multiple targets at
varying ranges. The ZEU-6H performed so well at close range that several overenthuastic
Lyran generals began to call for the decommissioning of the light 'mechs which traditionally
provided cover for the cumbersome assault units. Concerned by this turn of events, the
executives of Coventry Metal Works, producer of the Commando, launched a massive smear
campaign against the ZEU-6H and its designers. In addition to producing engineering reports
of dubious value claiming the SRM launchers in the 'mech's arm would be unreliable and prone
to jamming in combat conditions, the Coventry executives and their political allies launched
attacks against the personal lives of the 'mech's designers. This campaign was so
successful that most of the ZEU-6H's designers were fired from their jobs out of political
expediency, and the 'mech itself was discontinued from production.
Capabilities:
The ZEU-6H Zeus is very similar to the more common 6S model in most respects. The LRM-15
launcher has been replaced with ten SRM tubes and two tons of SRM ammunition. The 'mech is
also able to carry an additional ton of autocannon ammunition, partly compensating for the
loss of long range firepower. The missile launchers make the Zeus-6H more dangerous in
close combat than the more common models. Additionally, the missile shortages which plague
most models of the Zeus are less of a concern with the 6H model, due to the increased
tonnage devoted to ammunition. The pilot may also elect to conserve ammunition by reducing
the number of SRM tubes engaged in each salvo, a practice which also increases the necessary
time between overhauls.
Deployment:
Although a promising the design, the Zeus ZEU-6H was never deployed in large numbers due to
the political mechanations surrounding its development. Branded as an inferior design, the
'mech was relegated to backwater garrisons, although the Skye Rangers also recieved some of
the 'mechs. Once the 'mech actually saw action it was reasonably popular with its pilots,
who realized its reputation for unreliability was unfounded. They were particularly pleased
with the ability to engage Kurita Jenners at point blank range with a salvo of ten SRMs, and
with the increased ammunition storage. Less than a dozen examples are believed to remain in
operation in various Steiner and mercenary units.

I agree with everyone's comments. Especially the remarks about the rolling. Reminds me of a mech I made just to annoy my opponents since my turns took the longest. Aw, memories...

With the LRMs Zeus lost a lot of it's long range firepower (even if not long lasting firepower) and gained some short range weapons (I must agree with Raven! that there is a lot of rolling, so bigger launchers would help, but I would go with two SRM-4s and add some armor). It would be nasty surprise to use it with other ZEU mechs as bodyguard and against elementals.

This is a great level 1 beat down stick! Raven made some good comments, however I think the extra 3 tons should be all heat sinks so you can alpha w/out as much problems, well almost alpha, I'd drop the large laser if the PPC is outside min range, or the PPC if it isnt.

This is a very interesting design, but I have one or two minor complaints. First, without the LRM 15 to lay down a serious amount of fire power, the unit lacks any sort of range advantage. It will need it. I say drop the AC/5 and replace it with a PPC, get the best use you can out of long range fire power. You won't use it up close, just as you won't use the AC/5 up close, and you have the heat sinks so put em to good use!
I would also simply make this design have two SRM 6's with 2 tons of ammo. This is becuase I am lazy when it comes to rolling dice, and frankly I never multi engage with such light weapons because it would be innefective. The SRM6 combo, however, does make it more of a threat to the Commando.
With the three extra tons I'd say more armor, and a rear facing laser or two. Depending on how much armor is left to be placed on the design. If you are worried about heat, another heat sink couldn't hurt.
Raven!
