This is a mech designed for long range slug matches. Heavy long range weaponry that is not totally ammo dependent and some back up weaponry to help keep mechs that close from enjoying the ordeal. Its Heat is very carefully measured to be well within stable depending on target range. Survivable mechs without XL engines, with Stealth armor and a mix of low heat and high heat weapons are one reason why House Liao is resurgent since Xin Sheng began. A very good addition to the Liao Shadow Lances. |

So now the Capellans strapped on their inevitable stealth armor. Without the XL and the MASC of the -3L this 'Mech carries an excellent load of armor! Combined with the CASE the 'Mech has much more survivability than before. The Main weapons are a classic "kill-combination" and two ER mediums a good backup. With deactivated stealth heat isn't much of a problem even if alpha-striking but when activated the pilot should concentrate on its main weaponry to avoid dangerous heat-spikes. |

I'm not sold on the upgrade. Its a good setup, until the Guass runs dry at which point its a more heavily armoured version of most 40 tonners.
The stealth armour makes it a scary sniper while the ammo holds out though. Even if it does get a bit toasty there. One of these days I'll be convinced to run up a modified Liao force and everything will have Stealth armour just to give me a hope against my Clan opponents. |

I rather miss the four medium lasers. That always made the Cataphract a deadly 'mech to face up close and personal-like.
Still...Gauss rifles are nice. Even so, this feels a little under-gunned, and even more so once the ammo bins run dry. |

The rulers of House Liao might be mad as hatters, but they can make some pretty nifty designs. Granted the Urbanmech is somewhat worthless, the Vindie, Thunder, and original Cataphract models were pretty damn good. Now the House of Madness brings us this beast. The ranged weapons are a bit slim, the ER PPC has good reach but not the punch of clan model. This deficiency is somewhat offset by the ECM gear, which will make smart weapons almost worthless. The gauss rifle is a nice choice for sniper work, and can do a respectable ammount of damage at closer ranges. The twin ER lasers are good for when the target gets too close for the gauss rifle to work.
Watch your heat, though. This thing can run a bit hot if youre repeatedly alpha striking some poor sod. |
