Overview:
Appalled at the staggering mortality rate among lighter scout 'mechs during the Second
Succession War, Davion high command commissioned the design team at General Motors to build
a new heavy scout, one able to engage enemy 'mechs at various ranges and function for
extended periods on a high-intensity battlefield. The result, the Kampfer, can only be
described as...average.
Capabilities:
The Kampfer is very well protected. Wrapped as it is inside 10 tons of Durallex Medium
armor, it can take quite a beating and remain operational.
For ranged damage potential, few scouts can mount the power offered by the Cyclops Eye Large
Laser. The Eye's armored housing gives the Kampfer's arm a decidedly serpentine look,
although why the designers chose to give it such is still a mystery.
At short range, the Kampfer packs a one-two punch with its Federated 2-Shot Missile System
and Chiscomp 39 Medium Laser.
As a scout, the Kampfer can also be expected to encounter infantry and other "soft" targets.
The M100 Machine Gun mounted in the left arm should be provide ample enough power to handle
these targets.
The 'mechs only decided weakness, aside from its rather uninspired approach to the role it
performs, is its lack of jump capability.
Deployment:
So far, the Kampfer has only been deployed into the Capellan March, with mixed results. Some
pilots enjoy the "jack of all trades" approach, while others decry the lack of a true
specialty. Because sales to the Federated Suns have been lackluster, General Motors has been
considering the option of leasing production to the Lyran Commonwealth. The 'mech is already
available for general sale to mercenary units and periphery powers, although there have been
few takers as of yet.
