The big problem with the Hatchetman IMHO is that it's entirely short-range; a smart opponent could keep their distance and snipe with LRMs and other such long-range weapons.
This version tries to correct that by giving it an AC/2, allowing it to plink right back. This - combined with DHS - gave me the tonnage for a torso-mounted laser (meaning that it can still fight even if it loses the arms), extra armor, and an SRM 2 (all I had tonnage for after the armor).
