(HMP is down right now, so I'm doing this all in my head)
Base Chassis: Cicada 2A
Modifications:
320 fusion replaced with 320 XL
standard heat sinks replaced with DHS
- small laser
+ ER large laser (center torso)
+ medium laser (right arm)
+ medium laser (left arm)
+ 14 more points armor per leg
+ 8 more points armor per arm
+ 11 more points of armor per side torso (totals: 15 front, 5 rear)
+ 6 more points of armor for the center torso (totals: 15 front, 8 rear)
Justification:
Getting that kind of speed on a medium mech required a prohibitively heavy engine. As such, the weapons load-out on the machine was limited and the armor was decidedly thin.
By going to an XL engine and dropping the small laser, a considerable amount of tonnage was freed up; going to DHS allowed for this weight to be taken advantage of.
Near-maximum armor was installed to help protect the machine and its pilot, especially with the more fragile XL. The machine can now take a Guass Rifle slug to the torso and keep on going.
The weapons load was also increased significantly. For short- and medium- range combat, two more medium lasers were added, one per arm. For longer-range combat, the small laser in the center torso was removed and replaced with an ER Large Laser.
Not only can the machine now maintain its normal speed, it can actually engage mechs in its own weight class rather than simply harass them. _________________ "I wish I could write as mysterious as a cat." -Edgar Allen Poe"I knew there was something special about you, but I never realized you were really a cat." Similar results can be achieved by going with light engine and droping five tons of overal weight. Not bad though. _________________ The dragon NEVER sleeps!

For most mods, my goal is "L2 tech, field-level mods only barring a plot-justifiable excuse that would explain away a new factory".
I don't think I've ever cranked out a mod with a light engine. _________________ "I wish I could write as mysterious as a cat." -Edgar Allen Poe"I knew there was something special about you, but I never realized you were really a cat." Wolfwood to a random cat (Trigun)

Well, five tons could be occasionally shedded by leaving out part of the structure here and there. But I agree that field modifications shouldn't do it. Light engine on the other hand is a free game for field mods. It's even easier to use, since it isn't that bulky. _________________ The dragon NEVER sleeps!
