Overview:
The Black Adder was designed, in part, based upon the old SLDF Clint. The Adder
scientist caste increased the speed and armor protection dramatically, opting
to include an LB-10X autocannon in place of a higher damage Ultra model. This
gives the Black Adder the same reach as the old Clint, and two tons of
ammunition provides plenty of options between slug (for general combat) and
cluster (for anti-aerospace/VTOL operations). While some Clans regard the
design as weak in overall firepower, the Ghost Bears, Goliath Scorpions, and
Wolves have also adopted this BattleMech with only minor changes from the Adder
model. Like the Adders, these three Clans believe the utility of this fairly
inexpensive BattleMech provides Light and Medium Stars against air threats
makes up for the lack of heavy firepower.
Capabilities:
Massing 40 tons, the Black Adder uses a 280-rate extra-light fusion engine
allowing it to acheive a walking speed of 75.6 kilometers per hour and a
running speed of 118.8 kph. Seven jump jets are mounted, for a maximum jump
capacity of 210 meters and the design carries 6.5 tons of ferro-fibrous armor
plating (90.51% of the maximum possible on a 40-ton chassis) and endo-steel
internal structure.
The primary armament is a LB-10X autocannon in the right arm, replacing the
hand actuator in that limb. Two tons of ammunition are provided, normally with
10 shots of slug and 10 of cluster. Secondary weapons consist of two ER Medium
Lasers, one in the left arm and the second in the head.
Just the standard ten double-strength heat sinks are mounted on the Black
Adder, but these are sufficient to deal with all weapon and movement heat
generated, giving this machine a zero-net buildup of excess overhat.
Deployment:
The Adders, Bears, Scorpions, and Wolves all tend to use this BattleMech in
vaguely similar fashions. First and foremost, all four Clans use it to provide
air defense for lighter-weight Stars and Trinary formations. In this role, its
high speed and armor serve it well, as many Clan fighter pilots attempt to
disable air-defense units first. But other than this common role, the four
manufacturers vary in their use.
The Adders rely on the heavy laser firepower and armor protection to supplement
their light BattleMechs in the striker role, with a Black Adder often serving
as a command Mech for light Stars, while Black Adders belonging to the Ghost
Bears are often used in a recon role, with two or three of these medium-weight
BattleMechs asigned to the same Star, backed-up by two or three lighter,
jump-capable designs equipped with active probes and ECM suites.
The Scorpions see the 'Mech as a far-ranging and high speed supporter of Light
Stars and their use of the targeting computer aleviates much of the concern
with taking maximum range shots. The Wolves generally employ this BattleMech
as the lighter unit in a Star of Heavy or Assault class BattleMechs, using its
mobility to serve as the point-man and flanker of the Star, flushing opponents
for the heavier BattleMechs to engage.
Although these four Clans are the primary users of the Black Adder, it is by no
means an uncommon encounter in the toumens of other Clans. Over the years, it
has been widely traded between the Clans of Kerensky and may be seen in any
toumen organization.
Variants:
Clan Ghost Bear fields a very unusual model of the Black Adder, the Mod GB.
Forgoing any attempt to mount a heavy weapon system, this model features paired
LB-2X autocannon in the right arm in place of the standard Mod SA's LB-10X.
These light guns have the single longest range of any weapon in the Clan
inventory, allowing the Mod GB to provide fire support and air defense coverage
from truely exceptional ranges.
The Goliath Scorpion's Mod GS replaces the LB-10X with a lighter, longer-ranged
LB-5X with two tons of ammunition and uses the tonnage saved to mount a
targeting computer in the left torso and a third ER Medium Laser mounted in the
center torso. Although this model does not have the range of the Ghost Bear
variant or the punch of the Star Adder model, it is far more accurate at
delivering it's long-range firepower.
The Mod W is produced by Clan Wolf. It is very similar to the Goliath Scorpion
model in that the right arm LB-10X has been replaced with an LB-5X. However,
instead of adding another ER Medium Laser, the Mod W replaces the left arm ER
Medium with an ER Large Laser, while keeping the head mounted ER Medium Laser
as a secondary weapon. This version runs hotter than the three previously
listed, but still well within the acceptable limits.

Overview:
Originally designed by Clan of the same name, the Cloud Cobra is a fairly slow
40-ton BattleMech that mounts considerable missile firepower for such a
light-weight unit. Based in large part upon the SLDF Whitworth, the Cobras
increased the speed and jump capability, as well as the number of missiles in
each launcher, making for a hard-hitting BattleMech at both both long- and
short-range.
Capabilities:
The Cloud Cobra is a 40-ton BattleMech that uses a 240-rate extra-light fusion
engine; this gives this Mech a walking speed of 64.8 kilometers per hour and a
running speed of 97.2 kph. Six jump jets allow the Cloud Cobra to jump
distances of up to 180 meters in a single bounce. Cloud Cobra MechWarriors make
extensive use of the vectored thrust capabilities of these jets to make evasive
maneuvers in flight, in part compensating for the low speed.
Designers used endo-steel and six tons of ferro-fibrous armor plating in the
design. This provided enough weight savings to mount two LRM-15 launchers as
the primary armament. Placed in the right and left torsos, these launchers are
equipped with Artemis IV Fire Control and are supplied from two seperate
two-ton magazines, for a total of thirty-two missile salvoes (sixteen double
salvoes). Secondary armament consists of three ER Medium Lasers (right arm,
left arm, and head), just as with the ancient Whitworth--but in this case the
scientists also installed hand actuators on the right and left arms. All three
lasers are tied into a one-ton targeting set in the center torso.
Heat production from all of these weapons and heat sinks can rapidly overwhelm
the ten double-strength heat sinks fitted to the design, but when used properly
(LRMs at long-range and ER Mediums in close), the heat buildup is managable.
Deployment:
Although most commonly encountered in Clan Cloud Cobra formations, this
BattleMech has meandered throughout the toumens of the remaining Clans as well.
Over the past two decades, the Cobras have traded these BattleMechs for
resources, although they have managed to retain exclusive production
rights--which means that it is likely to encounter one of these medium missile
boats in the forces of virtually any of the Clans.
Variants:
At the present time, there are no known production variants of the Cloud Cobra
in service with any Clan.

Overview:
The Death Weaver Mk XL Mod GS was built by Clan Goliath Scorpion to provide a
fast-moving support BattleMech for its lighter units. Concentrating on speed
and protection, the design has been criticized by other Clans as being
underarmed for its weight class, although the integral targeting computer helps
to offset its fairly low damage output.
Capabilities:
Massing 40 tons, the Death Weaver uses a 320-rate extra-light fusion engine to
acheive speeds of 86.4 kilometers per hour (walking) and 129.6 kph (running).
The design does not feature jump jets, but has endo-steel internal structure
and seven tons of ferro-fibrous armor plating (for 97.81% of maximum armor
coverage). An anti-missile system (head) with 24 shots (center torso) provides
additional protection from hostile missile attacks.
The primary weapon system is an ER PPC in the right arm, with two AP Gauss
Rifles as the secondary weapons in the left arm (40 shots total). An active
probe in the center torso allows this unit to serve as a heavy scout/recon unit
and a two-ton targeting computer is fixed to the right torso.
The distinct lack of secondary weapons has made this BattleMech unpopular with
the other Clans, but the Scorpions prize it for its speed, ability to take
damage, and accurate, hard-hitting ranged firepower.
Deployment:
Exclusive to Clan Goliath Scorpion, the Death Weaver has found a role in nearly
every Trinary organization, serving as a fire-support unit for lighter elements
and a scout for heavier Stars.
Variants:
Roughly half of the Death Weavers produced to date replace the Active Probe
with an ECM Suite. This Mod GS-2 is often teamed with the standard model to
provide a full-spectrum of electronic warfare coverage to heavier trinary
formations.

Overview:
Originally designed by the Wolves, the Ice Ferret is a 40-ton BattleMech that
owes much of its configuration to the SLDF Cicada. Although this BattleMech did
not receive as much of a speed boost as many of the light and medium designs
converted during the Golden Century, it still wound up faster than the Cicada,
with more armor and far greater firepower. Impressed by the Wolf design, the
Ice Hellions obtained production rights in 3039, and have since introduced
their own model that uses MASC to acheive an even greater turn of speed. An
exceptionally lethal Clan BattleMech, the Ice Ferret is well balanced in terms
of armor, speed, and firepower--provided that the MechWarrior assigned to pilot
this machine uses it correctly.
Capabilities:
Clan Wolf scientists used endo-steel internal structure and six tons of
ferro-fibrous armor to begin this conversion, since they knew that the massive
360-rate extra-light fusion engine would consume a tremendous amount of the
BattleMechs core. This powerful engine allows the Ice Ferret to walk at speeds
of 97.2 kilometers per hour and run at 151.2 kph--the Ice Hellion variant is
even faster over limited distances thanks to its MASC.
Seeking to maximize firepower (and to keep with the basic energy only Cicada
design), the Wolf design team installed a pair of ER Medium Lasers (one each in
the right and left arms) to serve as mid-range weapons. But, the true firepower
of this design rests in the battery of nine ER Small Lasers (two each in the
right arm, left arm, right torso, and left torso, plus one in the head). All
eleven lasers are tied into a two-ton targeting computer set in the center
torso, which makes this BattleMech even more lethal.
With just the standard ten double-strength heat sinks, the Ice Ferret is prone
to badly straining its cooling system, but Wolf Warriors note that when using
the ER Mediums at mid-range, there is no heat buildup. And at short-range,
using all nine ER Smalls and running generates zero net heat buildup. Provided
that a Warrior is cautious, he can augment his short-range battery with an
occassional shot from an ER Medium (or use five, six, or seven ER Smalls to
augment his ERMLs if he prefers), but in normal bracket fire, this BattleMech
is perfectly heat neutral.
Deployment:
Considered by many Clans as insane for its concentration on short-range
firepower in the presence of guns that reach five times as far, the Ice Ferret
is dominate in only a handful of Clans. The majority are fielded by Clan Ice
Hellion and Clan Wolf, although the Goliath Scorpions, Nova Cats, and Steel
Vipers each have a signficant number. Among other Clans, this BattleMech is
virtually non-existent.
Among the Wolves, the Ice Ferret has earned a place in nearly every Star
configuration, providing short-range support to its Star mates and having the
speed to get to where it is needed on the battlefield rapidly. The Hellions, on
the other hand, tend to use the Ice Ferret as a command Mech for Light Stars
that swarm heavier units, picking them to death with their multiple light,
short-range weapons.
Variants:
Clan Ice Hellion manufactures the Ice Ferret Mk XL Mod IH which replaces the
targeting computer with a two-ton MASC installation. This gives the Ice Hellion
variant the ability to acheive a running speed of 194.4 kph for limited periods
of time.
Clan Wolf has introduced the W-2 model which removes all nine ER Small Lasers
to add a single right arm-mounted ER Large Laser and an additional half ton of
armor. The right arm medium laser has been moved to the head as well. The Mod
W-2 serves as a long-range support unit for the standard Mod W Ice Ferrets, and
comprise roughly 40% of the Ice Ferrets in the Wolf inventory.

Overview:
The Sand Devil is a Hell's Horses design that sees use in a number of Clans.
Based upon the SLDF Wyvern design, the Sand Devil combines fair speed,
excellent armor, good mobility, and a varied selection of firepower to provide
a general-purpose BattleMech in a compact 45-ton chassis. Manufactured by the
Horses, Coyotes, and Nova Cats, this design has spread throughout Clan space.
Even the Scorpions--who normally disdain missile heavy BattleMechs--use a small
number of Sand Devils to supplement their own Medium-weight Stars.
Capabilities:
Massing 45 tons, the Sand Devil uses a 270-rate extra-light fusion engine to
acheive speeds of 64.8 kilometers per hour (walking) and 97.2 kph (running).
Six jump jets are fitted to the design, allowing the Sand Devil to jump
distances of 180 meters. The Horses used endo-steel internal structure as well
as seven and a half tons of ferro-fibrous armor plating (for a hefty 94.11% of
maximum armor coverage).
The primary weapon is an ER Large Laser in the right arm, backed up by an ER
Medium Laser in the right arm. Both of these weapons are tied into a one-ton
targeting computer located in the head. For additional long-range firepower, a
LRM-10 missile launcher has been fitted to the right torso. This missile rack
includes Artemis IV Fire Control and is supplied by two tons of ammunition (for
a total of twenty-four missile salvoes). A Streak SRM-6 launcher in the right
torso only adds to the available firepower at closer ranges. Thirteen double
strength heat sinks are mounted on the design--enough to allow the Sand to fire
all weapons (including the Streak SRM-6) and walk without generating any excess
overheat. However, the design is prone to overheating when jumping, so Warriors
assigned to this machine must use caution.
Deployment:
With it varied array of firepower, speed, armor, and jump capability, the Sand
Devil forms an important part of the mid-weight Stars of the Clans. The design
sees use in every Clan, although the Cats, Coyotes, and Horses are still the
most numerous users of this BattleMech.
Variants:
The Coyote variant (Sand Devil Mk XLV Mod C) reduces the Streak launcher to a
four-tube system in exchange for upgrading the LRM-10 launcher to an LRM-15.
All other systems remain the same.

Overview:
The Steel Viper is one of the favorite BattleMechs of the Clans. Designed in
homage to the SLDF Phoenix Hawk, the Steel Viper is a fast and capable design
that packs a heavy punch and relies on a battery of energy weapons for the
majority of its firepower. Viper scientists increased the speed of the Phoenix
Hawk, albeit at the cost of jump jets. Armor protection is excellent on this
BattleMech and its high turn of speed allows Viper Warriors to move quickly
across the battlefield to where they are needed the most.
Five Clans manufacture this BattleMech: Fire Mandrill, Ice Hellion, Smoke
Jaguar, Snow Raven, and Steel Viper, and examples can be found in the toumen of
every Clan. For years, the Goliath Scorpions have attempted to gain production
rights, but have been denied at each Trial.
Capabilities:
Massing 45-tons, the Steel Viper uses a very powerful 360-rate extra-light
fusion engine that gives this BattleMech speeds of 86.4 kilometers per hour
(walking) and 129.6 kph (running). No jump jets are fitted, which slightly
restrict mobility, but lowers the overall heat burden. In order to maintain as
much tonnage for armor and weapons, the designers incorporated endo-steel
internal structure and eight full tons of ferro-fibrous armor plating--the
absolute maximum available for a 45-ton chassis.
Armament consists of three ER Lasers: a Large in the right arm, and two Mediums
(one in the right arm, the second in the head). For anti-personnel work, a pair
of AP Gauss Rifles have been fixed to the left arm, along with a munitions bin
that provides 20 shots for each. All five weapons are tied into a two-ton
targeting computer located in the center torso. Eleven double heat sinks
dissipate some, but not all, of the heat generated by this BattleMech. Like the
original Phoenix Hawk, the Steel Viper requires a Warrior that is deliberate
and cautious in his use of weapon systems. However, with proper care and
respect for range brackets, the heat burder is manageable.
Deployment:
Steel Vipers (the BattleMech) are found in every Clan of Kerensky--a fact that still
makes Steel Viper (the Clan) Warriors sputter to this day. They had intended to
keep the design as exclusive, but during the very first Trial against the Smoke
Jaguars, three Viper pilots died in the first minute of the engagement to lucky
hits on their cockpits. With the odds suddenly skewed in the Jaguars favor, the
remainder of the Trial quickly concluded--and the new BattleMech was no longer
an exclusive design. From there, it spread across Clan space, being produced
today by no less than five seperate Clans and on active duty in the toumen of
every surviving Clan.
Variants:
Most Steel Vipers produced by the Clans are the original Mod SV debuted by Clan
Steel Viper. The Ice Hellions, however, modified their production to the Mod
IH. This version replaces the targeting computer with a MASC system that
allows for a sprint speed of 172.8 kilometers per hour.

Overview:
The Blood Legacy is the standard Clan Blood Spirit medium-weight BattleMech.
Unlike the Snapping Turtle, the Spirits lost a trial against Clans Smoke Jaguar
and Snow Raven, allowing this 'Mech to spread throughout Clan space. Based
upon the SLDF Hunchback, the Blood Legacy is a terrific infighter that is
absolutely devastating in close-range combat--however, it lacks any ability to
engage targets at long-range.
Capabilities:
Like many Clan 50-ton designs, the Blood Legacy uses a 300-rate extra-light
fusion engine for a speed of 64.8 kilometers per hour (walking) and 97.2 kph
(running). This design includes six jump jets for a maximum jump distance of
180 meters and incorporates endo-steel internal structure and eight and a half
tons of ferro-fibrous armor plating (for 96.44% of maximum coverage).
The primary armament is a right torso mounted Ultra AC-20 autocannon. Four tons
of ammunition provides a total of 20 shots for this monster, but many of the
Warriors assigned to a Blood Legacy note that this seemingly large supply can
be quickly expended. Secondary weapons consist of two ER Medium Lasers (right
arm and left arm) and an ER Small Laser (head).
Twelve double-strength heat sinks are mounted, which means that the Blood
Legacy will overheat if it fires both ER Mediums and double-taps the UAC-20 and
either walks or runs. However, on single fire mode, the design can jump and
fire every weapon system and generate just one point of excess overheat.
Warriors must take caution when piloting a Blood Legacy to avoid generating too
much overheat, as an ammunition explosion will deprive this BattleMech of the
majority of its weapon systems.
Deployment:
Once exclusively a Blood Spirit BattleMech, the Smoke Jaguars gained production
rights in 3034, followed by the Snow Ravens in 3036. Since then, examples taken
as isorla have spread throughout the Clan toumens, although the Jaguars,
Ravens, and Spirits remain the three most common users of the design.
Variants:
The Snow Raven Warriors who examined the first examples of the Blood Legacy
were concered with the possibility of the Ultra autocannon jamming in the midst
of combat. This concern led to the design and production of the Mod SR which
replaces the Ultra AC-20 with a LB-20X autocannon. Ammunition reserves have
shrunk to three tons (typically two of slug and one of cluster) but endurance
has actually increased over the original model.
Two double-strength heat sinks were also removed from the Mod SR, allowing the
Raven engineers to fit a three-ton targeting computer in the left torso.
However, the design still retains enough cooling capacity to fire all three
lasers and the LB-20X while running for zero net heat buildup. The end result
of the Mod SR program for the Blood Legacy met the standards of the Raven
Warrior caste and remains in full-scale production to this day.

Overview:
Originally developed by Clan Star Adder, the Dark Hunter has become the
standard Medium Artillery Support BattleMech of the Clans of Kerensky.
Although the design masses just 50 tons, it manages to do its job of carrying
an Arrow IV launch system (with 20 artillery rockets) and providing fire-support
as needed by its Cluster. However, differing from the assault-weight
artillery BattleMechs previous used by the SLDF and the Clans, the Dark Hunter
also carries enough standard weaponry to allow it to participate on the
battlefield--even if its artillery is not used.
Capabilities:
Massing 50-tons, the Dark Hunter uses a 300-rate extra-light fusion engine for
a ground speed of 64.8 kilometers per hour (walking) and 97.2 kph (running).
This Adder design uses both endo-steel internal structure and eight and a half
tons of ferro-fibrous armor plating for protection (a full 96.4% of the maximum
allowed on a 50-ton chassis).
The reason for the existence of this medium unit is the massive Arrow IV
launcher that consumes all available space in the right and center torsos.
Supplied by four tons (20 shots) of artillery rockets, the Dark Hunter is
usually able to provide needed fire support, regardless of the length of the
Trial or Campaign.
Secondary weapons are mounted in the left arm (an ER Large Laser), right arm
(Streak SRM-4 launcher with 25 shots), and head (ER Small Laser). Although
such a weapon spread is far more appropriate of a light BattleMech than a
medium, it must be remembered these are only the secondary weapons--and that
the Dark Hunter carries a full-bore Arrow IV artillery system as well.
Ten double-strength heat sinks are included in the design, allowing for the
Warrior assigned to this unit to fire his artillery rockets or secondary
defensive/offensive systems--but not both simultaneously.
Deployment:
The Adders were the original designers of the Dark Hunter, but they are no
longer the exclusive manufacturers. Both Clan Diamond Shark and Clan Wolf have
gained production rights; in addition, the Sharks have sold or traded a number
of Dark Hunters to any Clan with an interest in the system.
Variants:
With the disdain that most Clans have for artillery systems, the Dark Hunter
has seen little--if any--modifications. The more traditional Clans that have
little use for artillery recognize that redesigning the 'Mech for conventional
warfare would be almost as difficult as designing a new 'Mech from scratch.
And the handful of Clans that realize the necessity of 'Mech-borne,
self-propelled artillery support for when the Clans return to the Inner Sphere
have resisted the temptation to make alterations, not wanting to lose the
design's effectiveness as an artillery unit.

Overview:
The Desert Tiger is one of the finest examples of late generation Clan
BattleMech design. Based in large part upon the old SLDF Thunderbolt, Clan
Goliath Scorpion scientists managed to shed fifteen tons, while retaining the
same array of weaponry--and increasing the speed by 50%. This hard-hitting
medium BattleMech has become the most common in that reclusive Clan. Found
exclusively in Scorpion formations, the Desert Tiger is a harbinger of future
designs soon to emerge.
Capabilities:
The Desert Tiger masses 50 tons and uses a 300-rate extra-light fusion engine
for a speed of 64.8 kilometers per hour (walking) and 97.2 kps (running). In
order to fit the necessary equipment and weapons, the Scorpion designers used
endo-steel internal structure and eight and a half tons of ferro-fibrous.
Although this is near the maximum amount of armor plating available for a
50-ton chassis, it does not nearly match the armor of the old SLDF Thunderbolt.
Weaponry, on the other hand, compares excellently to the Star League heavy.
Laser weapons consist of an ER Large Laser in the right arm and three ER Medium
Lasers in the left torso. For anti-personnel work, two AP Gauss Rifles are
mounted in the left arm, with 20 shots each. All five guns are tied into a two
ton targeting computer placed in the left torso.
Despite the traditional Scorpion disdain for missile weapons, the Desert Tiger
continues to follow its predecessor with two distinct missile systems. For
long-range combat, an LRM-15 launcher is placed in the right torso and equipped
with Artemis IV FCS. Twenty-four missile salvoes (three tons of ammunition) are
standard. A Streak SRM-2 launcher has been placed in the center torso, with a
ton of ammunition (50 shots) in the right torso.
For additional defensive systems, this BattleMech carries a head-mounted
Anti-Missile System with 24 shots in the center torso. Finally, a Light TAG is
carried on the left arm, allowing the Desert Tiger to designate targets for
Arrow IV artillery fire and for laser-guided bombs dropped by Scorpion
aerospace fighters.
One major criticism of the design it that is heavily overgunned, with only
eleven double-strength heat sinks. But the Scorpions consider the design heat
neutral--using the weapons in brackets. At long-range, the ER Large, LRM rack,
and AMS can be used with no heat buildup. At short-range, the triple ER
Mediums, AP Gauss, Streak SRM-2, and AMS can be fired while running for zero
net heat generation.
Deployment:
Among Clan Goliath Scorpion, the Desert Tiger is the single most common
BattleMech available to that Clan. Its combination of firepower, armor, and
speed makes it incredibly useful in a variety of roles, from heavy scout to
direct assault. No longer the exclusive manufacturers of this medium-weight
design, the Scorpions continue to field more than any other Clan.
Variants:
Clan Snow Raven recently acquired production rights for the Desert Tiger and
then introduced their Mod SR variant. This configuration reduces the LRM-15
launcher to a 10-tube missile system, drops one ton of LRM ammunition, and
removes the Streak SRM-2 system and ammunition in toto. In exchange, the Mod
SR adds six jump jets (for a total jump capacity of 180 meters) and one
additional double-strength heat sink.

Overview:
The Golden Lion is a medium-weight, mid-speed trooper BattleMech fielded
originally by Clan Cloud Cobra. Based upon the SLDF Centurion, the Golden Lion
is a robust and capable opponent that carries a heavy array of firepower, but
is fairly cool-running and possesses an average speed. One of the oldest
BattleMechs remaining on the Clan roster, the Golden Lion has three variant
models, one produced by the Fire Mandrills the second by the Nova Cats, and the
third by Clan Wolf--all of which of which adjust the type of ballistic weapon
and the size of the missile launcher fitted to the design. Over the years, this
BattleMech has become a staple of all Clans and can be encountered in nearly
every Clan formation.
Capabilities:
Massing 50-tons, the Golden Lion uses a 300-rate extra-light fusion engine
allowing it to acheive speeds of 64.8 kilometers per hour (walking) and 97.2
kph (running). Like many of the heavier Clan BattleMechs, the design lacks jump
jets, but the heavy firepower carried somewhat alleviates this flaw. The design
incorporates endo-steel internal structure and eight and a half tons of
ferro-fibrous armor plating (96.44% of maximum coverage) to ensure a hefty
weapons package as well as survivability upon the battlefield.
The basic Golden Lion owes its lineage to the SLDF Centurion, and for the most
parts its weapons mirror that ancient BattleMech. In the right arm is a Class
10 Ultra auto-cannon, with three tons of ammunition allowing for sustained
fire. As with the Centurion, the inclusion of the autocannon forced the
designers to remove the right hand actuator from the BattleMech. The secondary
weapon is an LRM-15 launcher in the left torso, which has been fitted with
Artemis IV. Three tons of ammunition are provided for this weapon system as
well, ensuring that the Golden Lion only seldom has to worry about depleting
its ammo supply.
Two ER Medium Lasers supplement the missiles and ballistic weaponry, one in the
left arm and the second in the head. A third ER Medium is also mounted, this
one located in the right torso, but is posistioned to fire into the rear arc of
the design. Although there are many critics who consider the rear-firing weapon
to be a waste of valuable tonnage, it has proven highly useful in combat,
especially against Warriors who do not expect a Clan BattleMech to feature rear
firing weapons.
All models of the Golden Lion are cool-running and handle well with just the
basic ten double-strength heat sinks loaded into the engine core.
Deployment:
Although the Cats, Cobras, Mandrills, and Wolves remain the primary users, the
Golden Lion can be encountered in any toumen and is one of the more common
BattleMechs of the Clan forces.
Variants:
Three major variant models exist, produced by the Fire Mandrills, the Nova
Cats, and the Wolves.
The Fire Mandrill's Golden Lion Mk L Mod FM downgrades the LRM rack to a
10-missle unit, with two tons of ammunition, which keeps the same total number
of salvoes. The Ultra AC-10 has been replaced with a LB-20X autocannon equipped
with three tons of ammunition, typically two of slug and one of cluster. All
other systems and armor remain the same.
Similar to the Mod FM is the Nova Cats Mod NC. This model keeps the same armor,
heat sinks, and secondary weapons as the Mod FM, but replaces the LB-20X with a
high-powered Gauss Rifle equipped with three tons of ammunition.
Finally, the Wolf Mod W replaces the Ultra AC-10 with an LB-10X model and two
tons of ammunition, downgrades the LRM-15 rack to a 10-tube system, and loses
one ton of LRM ammunition in order to add a three-ton targeting computer module
to the right torso.

Overview:
The Nova Mk L Mod JF is a Jade Falcon design that is slow moving for a Clan
medium-weight BattleMech, but that carries exceptionally heavy firepower for
its weight class. A favorite among many Warriors for its responsive controls
and easy to master systems, the Nova is nonetheless an older design that is
only slowly giving way to more cutting edge BattleMechs. It will certainly remain
in service for decades yet to come.
Capabilities:
Massing 50 tons, the Nova uses a 250-rate extra-light fusion engine to move at
speeds of 54 kilometers per hour (walking) and 86.4 kph (running). It is
equipped with five jump jets allowing for the BattleMech to jump distances of
up to 150 meters in a single bound. Endo-steel internal structures were used in
the design, but the lack of internal space forced Clan scientists to use
standard armor instead of ferro-fibrous. On the bright side, the 10.5 tons of
standard armor protection offer the Nova more than 99% of the maximum armor
coverage available to a 50-ton BattleMech chassis.
The cockpit of the Nova was a marvel of ergonomics when first introduced--and
it has since been heavily copied on many Clan designs. The high bubble-type
canopy that provides exceptional visibility is a clear departure from other
'thematic' cockpits favored by the Star League. With the Nova, however, the
Clans acknowledge that the vulnerability of a cockpit was a simple fact of
life, and they exploited that vulnerable to give the Warrior assigned to the
BattleMech the best possible field of view for his own eyes--after all, sensors
can be jammed and electronics can fail, but it is much harder to spoof the
naked eye.
The Nova cockpit also marked the turning point between SLDF designs that
included jump-seats and storage lockers--rather the new cockpit designs were
much more austre and fighter-like than traditional BattleMech cockpits. Only a
few emergency survival supplies were stored within the ejection seat itself,
and other than a small (2-3 gallon) water supply, that was the extent of
storage space within the BattleMech. The Clans also completely removed space
for the traditional jump seat, making the Nova a one-man BattleMech in truth.
The Nova carries its main armament in the arms, with each arm mounting three ER
Medium Lasers and two AP Gauss Rifles (20 shots each). The original design
called for FIVE ER Medium Lasers per arm, but the high levels of heat produced
made using the BattleMech extremely difficult. The final production model
reduced the armament to the current levels and added the anti-personnel
weapons. Eighteen double-strength heat sinks are mounted to deal with the heat
build-up of these weapons: a fact that they can now accomplish nicely. The Nova
can fire all of its arm-mounted weapons and run without generating any excess
overheat. It can also jump while firing the six ER Mediums and one AP Gauss for
zero net heat buildup.
One major concern of the original prototype was the complete lack of any
ability to engage targets at ranges exceeding that of the ER Medium. Once the
decision had been made to reduce the arm-mounted weapons to the current levels,
enough spare mass was freed up to deal with the lack of long-range guns. A
single ER Large Laser was installed on the center-line directly beneath the
cockpit. Although the heat burden prevents it from being used simultaneously
with all of the remaining weapons, there is ample heat dissipation for the Nova
to fire the ER Large and jump. At closer ranges, the Warrior can select the ER
Large, four ER Mediums, two AP Gauss, and still have enough reserve cooling
capacity to run. Or the ER Large, three ER Mediums, all four AP Gauss, and jump
for zero net heat buildup.
With its extensive battery of seven lasers, the Nova is also an exceptional
BattleMech in the area of needing resupply. Only the four AP Gauss require
ammunition, and while useful, they are definately third-tier weapons on the
Nova. Their loss in no way impeds the battlefield effectiveness of this
BattleMech, making the Nova a superior choice when logistical support is 'iffy'.
Deployment:
In the Jade Falcons, it has been said that nearly every Star contains a Nova.
It serves that Clan in many roles, from a training BattleMech to a
medium-weight slugger that terrorizes smaller designs with its firepower to a
flanker for heavier formations, relying on its jump-jets and guns to assist
Hellbringers and Summoners.
The sheer length of time that the Nova has been in service has assured that its
spread to other Clans would happen. Today, the Nova is produced by Clans
Diamond Shark, Ghost Bear, Hell's Horses, Jade Falcon, Nova Cat, Smoke Jaguar,
and Wolf. Additional examples are common in every Clan.
Variants:
Rather surprisingly, despite its age and the number of Clans that manufacture
the Nova, there have not been any variants created on the basic Jade Falcon
design.

Overview:
The new Rabid Coyote BattleMech was introduced by Clan Coyote just two years

substantial punch and moves quickly across the battlefield. Designers allocated
a substantial amount of missile reloads and three ER Medium Lasers ensure that
the Rabid Coyote will always have a weapon with which to return fire.
Capabilities:
The 50-ton Rabid Coyote uses a 350-rate extra-light fusion engine for a walking
speed of 75.6 kilometers per hour and a running speed of 118.8 kph. No jump
jets are mounted on the chassis, which makes difficult terrain slightly more
disruptive upon this fast moving medium. To ensure the heaviest possible
weapons load, Coyote scientists uses endo-steel internal structure and seven
and a half tons of ferro-fibrous armor plating.
Two LRM-15 launchers, each with Artemis IV, and fed from a total of six tons of
ammunition (for 24 salvoes each) are the primary weapons. One of each missile
system has been installed in the right and left torsos. Three ER Medium Lasers
provide mid-range backup to the missile systems: one in the right arm, the
second in the left arm and the third in the center torso. Unlike the original
SLDF Trebuchet, the Rabid Coyote retains two fully functional hand actuators.
With just ten double-strength heat sinks fitted as standard, the Rabid Coyote
is prone to heat problems if all weapons are fired; however, a skilled Warrior
should be able to alternate fire between different weapon systems to maintain a
constant barrage of missiles and laser bolts until they fire their magazines
dry. Once the missile launchers are empty, the triple ER Mediums still allow
the Rabid Coyote to contribute to the battle--and at greatly reduced heat
production.
Deployment:
Exclusive to Clan Coyote, only a handful of these BattleMechs have made their
way as isorla into the toumens of other Clans. Within the Coyotes, however, the
Rabid Coyote has a place in virtually every star, save only the very lightest.
In Light Stars, this BattleMech often serves as a command/support unit, while
in Heavy Stars it is the advance scout and flanker. Some mid-weight units
consist of just five Rabid Coyotes, which makes for an impressive bombardment
unit, particulary against fixed posistions and structures.
Variants:
There are no variants on the Rabid Coyote that have yet been fielded.

Overview:
Inspired by the SLDF Crab, the Sable Raptor is a true homage to its namesake,
the Sphinx Raptor. Aggressive and lethal, this BattleMech allows Clan Warriors
to overwhelm far larger prey with its combination of speed, firepower, and
pin-point accuracy. The original design was developed by Clan Sea Fox, but has
received several upgrades over the past decades to incorporate the latest Clan
technological advances. In honor of its past, the Diamond Sharks have retained
the Mod SF designation given to the Sable Raptor.
Capabilities:
A 50-ton Medium-class BattleMech, the Sable Raptor uses a 350-rate extra-light
fusion engine that allows this BattleMech to walk at speeds of 75.6 kilometers
per hour and running at 118.8 kph. No jump jets are mounted on the design, but
eight and a half tons of ferro-fibrous armor provides excellent armor
protection to mitigate the lack of mobility. The design also incorporates
endo-steel internal structure and is fitted with fifteen double-strength heat
sinks to deal with the high levels of heat production.
Armament was kept simple and to the point: two ER Large Lasers, one each in the
right arm and left arm, are the primary weapons. The Sable Raptor keeps both
lower arm and hand actuators, which prevents this BattleMech from flipping arms
to cover its rear arc, but the utility of a pair of working hand actuators
outweighs this disadvantage, especially when combined with the high turn of
speed. A third ER Laser (in this a Medium) is mounted in the head as the sole
secondary weapon system. The three lasers are tied into a center torso mounted
targeting computer that partially negates range and movement penalties and also
allows the Warrior assigned to this war-machine place precision fire against
specific locations on their targeted opponents. Finally, for an additional
defensive system, the Sable Raptor carries an ECM Suite in the left torso.
Heat overproduction is only minor, despite the all-energy weapon configuration;
although some Clan Warriors believe the design to be undergunned. When used
correctly, however, the Sable Raptor is a truely lethal foe.
Deployment:
As with all Diamond Shark designs, the Sable Raptor has been made available to
the other Clans in quantity. Resources are traded for completed BattleMechs,
giving this BattleMech a place in every toumen of the Clans. The Shark Khans
make certain that no one Clan has amassed a stockpile of these BattleMechs
larger than own toumen, adjusting annual production to keep their own Clans use
of the Sable Raptor as largest of any Clan.
Variants:
The Sable Raptor is so finely tuned that any alternation results in a radically
different BattleMech. Between the difficulty in modifying the design and the
recent introduction date, there have so far been only one variant has been
produced, by specific request of Clan Ice Hellion. This model (Mod IH) removes
the targeting computer and installs a MASC system allowing for sprint speeds of
151.2 kilometers per hour.

Overview:
Developed by Clan Ghost Bear scientists in the early 3040s, the Shadow Cat owes
much of its design to the SLDF Enfield--a close cousin of House Davion's
Enforcer BattleMech. Used extensively to supplement the older Golden Lion, the
Shadow Cat uses jump jets to increase overall mobility at the cost of some
firepower. Both designs are heavily armored for their weight-class, however.
Shortly after this BattleMech was introduced, Clan Hell's Horses won a batchall
that secured production rights for that Clan as well.
Capabilities:
Massing 50 tons, the Shadow Cat uses a 300-rate extra-light fusion engine which
gives it a speed of 64.8 kilometers per hour (walking) and 97.2 kph (running).
Six jump jets allow the design to jump for distances of 180 meter meters. Ghost
Bear scientists used endo-steel internal structure to save mass and fitted the
new BattleMech with eight and a half tons of ferro-fibrous armor protection for
near maximum coverage.
The main weapon is a right arm mounted Gauss Rifle with three tons of
ammunition. The hand actuator had to be removed in order to fit this weapon and
its ammo bins completely within the arm structure. Augmenting the Gauss is a
left arm ER Large Laser which has a similar brackets, but is capable of
reaching slightly farther down-range. Additional defensive capability is
provided by a head-mounted Anti-Missile System, supplied by one ton of
ammunition in the center torso.
Heat balance on the Shadow Cat is perfectly neutral, even when firing all
weapons and jumping. The design is able to engage targets at any range, but is
most often used as a long-range sniper to augment its Star mates as they close
with the enemy. With its speed and jump capability, the Shadow Cat can normally
hold the range open and rely on its armor and AMS to prevent hostile long-range
missiles from having much effect, but is vulnerable to direct energy and
ballistic counter-fire.
Deployment:
Primarily seen in the toumens of Ghost Bear and Hell's Horses, a limited number
of Shadow Cats have spread throughout the Clans. Although the Nova Cats have
tried to gain production rights for the past decade, they have so far failed to
win the batchall.
Variants:
As of the current time-frame, there are no variant models of the Shadow Cat in
production.

Overview:
The Solahma Beta is the medium-weight Solahma unit used by the Clans to equip
these last-chance warriors. Once again, the design emphasize low-cost in
resources and provides just a basic fighting platform to give the warrior his
final chance to earn honor.
Capabilities:
Massing 50-tons, the Beta is a capable machine, that (although outclassed by
front-line and second-line units) remains well able to deal with most Inner
Sphere or bandit units. A 250-rate standard engine provides an adequete (but
not stellar) movement profile, despite the lack of jump jets. Eight and a half
tons of ferro-fibrous armor plating provide good protection, allowing the
Solahma Warrior to survive just long enough to give him a chance to defeat his
foe.
Armament consists of an ER Large Laser in the right arm and three ER Medium
Lasers in the left torso. Two AP Gauss Rifles in the left arm (40 shots)
provide solid anti-personnel capability. Two missile racks are also fitted to
the design: a LRM-15 launcher in the right torso (24 shots) and a SRM-4 in the
center torso (25 shots). Thirteen double-strength heat sinks alleviate some,
but not all, of the fearsome heat build-up. However, many desperate Solahma
Warriors ignore the heat gauge and simply fire away hoping to overwhelm their
opponent before their own demise. Warriors who take this course of action are
sometimes successful, but generally, the Clan genetic pool is better off
without their contributions.
Deployment:
Every Clan maintains at least one Solahma Cluster manned by Warriors deemed too
old to serve in front-line or second-line Clusters. Seeking an honorable death,
these warriors have spent their careers being unlucky enough to acheive no
glorious record of deeds on their codex and are not likely to have their
genetic diversity passed on to future generations of Clan warriors. By
volunteering to serve in a Solahma unit, these warriors earn one final chance
to earn the distinction and honor that will ensure they are part of their
Clan's legacy.
Variants:
None of the Solahma series of BattleMechs have varients--the Clans do believe
in devoting large amounts of resources to provide for what
are--ultimately--expendable troops.
