First off it's great to see this forum still going. I've done a bit of reading through the back log, appreciating the plentiful history of this place. And now I'm glad to be a "Mordel citizen" as well, after being a player since '89. Very Happy

Has there ever been any question about critical hits per weapon fired, with LBX and SRM being the chief perps - as TW p.123 states "Each successful attack that damages internal structure creates only one opportunity for the attacker to inflict a critical hit, regardless of the number of internal structure circles destroyed by a single weapon or other attack", listing the through-armor-crit hit location as an exception.

On TW p.124 they give an example of one SRM2 causing two crit hit rolls as both missiles hit exposed internal.

It wasn't worded any more clearly in the earlier editions either, unfortunately. Is this something "lost in translation" or is there an official errata I've missed?

Always played in the manner that LBX and SRMs were the fastest way to pile crits in a single exposed location.

The correct ruling is every time a section's internal structure is damaged one attempt at a critical is rolled regardless of the number of points done by the weapon. So despite a gauss rifle doing a potential of 15 points of internal structure damage it generates just a single roll for a critical, the same as a single pip from an LBX autocannon would.

It's just that an LBX (and SRM) gives you multiple chances to hit an exposed location to create the potential of more chances to roll..

Exactly. The wording "single weapon" is just confusing when a single cluster-hitting weapon can land multiple individual hits. It didn't even occur to doubt rolling for each cluster, until I took a moment to thoroughly read the introductory rulebook from 2006. Nice publication, by the way, a lot more clean than Total Warfare.

Would be more clear to word it as "single weapon's hit or other cluster of damage." The previous editions did not benefit from an example to sort it out.

Perhaps it was assumed obvious, being a non-native speaker makes for plenty of moments like this. I'd rather use that as an excuse instead of accepting being a nitpick. Rolling Eyes

Well, in the 25+ years of playing this game you're the first person to indicate there was some confusion in the way that rule means, so it's likely not the way the rule is written. Wink
