==Overview:==
Although reliable and time-tested, the Centurion none-the-less simply faced
the problem of being an old machine in an era of pronounced technological
advancement. While sales remained steady, the question still remained as to
how best to adopt the unit to the modern day.
One particular design team made the daring decision to keep the same general
frame and design, but heavily repurpose the unit; instead of front-line
combat, where its limited speed and comparatively mundane weapons load-out was
a liability, it would be redone as an urban fighter and heavy security unit.
The entire chassis itself received fairly extensive revisioning in order to
incorporate the lighter yet bulkier endo steel. The right arm received special
attention, as the decision was made to mount a hand (the lack of which the
design team regarded as a liability, as they felt that the arm was largely
useless for anything but a club should the ammo ever run dry). In order to
make room for said hand, the venerable AC/10 was removed and replaced with an
Ultra 5; although lighter, firing at double speed provides a similar ammo
consumption and damage curve.
To prep it for its new task, the LRM 10 launcher was split apart. While an LRM
5 was retained for range, an SRM 4 was added to provide short-range punch.
Additionally, an ECM suite, an Active Probe system, and jump jets were added.
The one drawback is that by the time everything was said and done, there was
little tonnage to up the overall armor and not enough internal space to allow
for ferro. As such, the mech is a full ton shy of having full armor capacity.
However, the ECM suite is expected to make up for it.
By the time everything was said and done, the resemblance to the original unit
was so vague that the decision was made to rename it; after some debate, the
name "Saturn" was decided upon.
