|
|
A cruiser designed to mount 21 naval weapons on each side. Based in rough concept only with the British 21-gun Warship of the Age of Sailing. Reason for the very large broadside mountings.

*inputs most of that into the system and checks out the damage graph* Holy fox, this thing is BRUTAL!
*finishes up* My version is slightly off. (I can't figure out exactly how much fuel it carries, just a rough estimate.) But this thing conforms exactly to what a crusier is supposed to be. Heavy armor, heavy guns, moderate speed, and the capability of VASTLY extended operations. The amount of naval firepower scares me a little, only the lack of range giving me any feeling of safety. It's a little light on fighter defense, but as it carries two dropships and its own fighter compliment, I should think it has enough of a defense, yeah?
But yeah, the big cones of red I see in this design's damage graph make me sit up and take notice. Suggested name of Man O' War I guess? Though, those were frigates as I recall.
Rock on Vagabond.
Final Note: I'd like more escape pods of course, but I think 100% capacity is just a design feature I go for. It's not likely that everyone could escape the ship in time, but I like to give the possibility. Depending on your small craft and dropships though, 100% escape is possible without necessarily using all lifeboats even. _________________ Jarylan Blackwell

Ya, it rather suprised me too. I was expecting some oomph but WOW. The Broadside is capable of 465 damage out to long. Get in close to even a McKenna or Mjolnir and they'd be hurting quickly. Only a Leviathan can take a full broadside and not immediately turn tail and run.
As for the escpe pods, drop each cargo bay down to 19800 tons and add 56 Escape Pods. Place extra tonnage into spare parts or split among the two cargo bays. _________________ one must work hard to cultivate the mind and body. and one must always cultivate the mind.

I would probibly say either the FC or FWL. Its based off of a British ship. _________________ one must work hard to cultivate the mind and body. and one must always cultivate the mind.

Sounds like a logical grouping, would have thought ComStar might have been one as well. _________________ Karagin Only the dead have seen the end of war. - Plato

I tend to reserve Comstar, WoB, and the WD for projects that fit no one else. _________________ one must work hard to cultivate the mind and body. and one must always cultivate the mind.

I was going off the idea that since the ComGuard used Sandhurst has their main military school....

Well, it certainly does have excellent firepower. The armor is decent, though not great.
This isn't so much a criticism as it is a request for clarification: what's the reasoning behind the second and third cargo bays? The first seems sufficient for supporting fighters, but the other two strike me as 40,000 tons that could have been useful. _________________ "Politics is supposed to be the second oldest profession. Well, I can't speak for Vagabond, but I can take a crack at this. Cruisers are ships designed from the ground up to be as enduring as possible, capable of ultralong voyages, perhaps even a year or more. The massive amounts of fuel, food and cargo it carries could help it keep OTHER ships operating for such a longer period of time. Such as a pair of small destroyers, and it's own dropships. Or, you could load it up with more non-perishable food and spare parts and such, and set off on an extremely long and well armed scouting/exploration journey.
I imagine the Explorer Corps would love that, but given that the ship is more FS or FWL material according to Vagabond, they'll most likely make do with some other sort of cruiser. _________________ Jarylan Blackwell
