So I was going through some older notes and I ran across some older ideas and well I combined them with a golden oldie...

------------------------------------------------------------------------------
==Overview:==
As an artillery support unit, the Spartan is unsurpassed, many think of it as
a walking multiple launch missile system. Given this it has been also
considered one of less versatile of mechs in current use.
It has limited secondary weapons, and slow speed adds to the issues if the
enemy units break through the frontlines. Many of these mechs have been used
as anti-aircraft enplacements around highly important targets and locations.

a decent mech, but it does not instill the image of a Greek elite phalanx trooper. _________________ one must work hard to cultivate the mind and body. and one must always cultivate the mind.

Not bad the name and designation are already used by cannon designs Spartan is an assault from TRO 3058 and SDR is used by Spider series (you probably know that now, but the age of the design can explain a lot of things...). The 'Mech itself looks similar to Apollo (and maybe Cobra and Trebuchet). It's a nice poor-man's Archer, but I would drop the armor by one point and upgrade the small laser to medium or to install another heat sink to allow the 'Mech to relocate without the need to watch heat. A flamer may also be handy, because burning woods and a lot of smoke can help you with retreat and infantry doesn't like fire. _________________ The dragon NEVER sleeps!

Funny you should suggest the armor dropping and weapons or heat sink upgrade, a couple of others have suggested the same thing.
This mech is more akin to the Longbow then the Spartan from the Rhonda's Irreuglars Book or the TRO3058. _________________ Karagin Only the dead have seen the end of war. - Plato

To get the "feel" of the elite phalanx trooper one would need a decent upgrade or version of the Hoplite. _________________ Karagin Only the dead have seen the end of war. - Plato

Actually there was a thing called Spartan in exosquad (or whatever it was) in BattleTech it's the unseen Longbow...
The weapons dropping is quite obvious upgrade, because the 1 point of armor costs you entire half ton, which can be used elsewhere, so I'm not surprised by the fact that I'm not the first to suggest this. _________________ The dragon NEVER sleeps!

Karagin, one of your more bland designs. Name, function, load out. I mean you have the Whitworth, Trenchbuchet, and Apollo as potentials. Yeah missile boats can be a little bland but pump it up.
AWAD- Apollo is a great mini Archer

Since when as the name of a mech really had anything to do with out it functions? The Stalker is a perfect example...it's missile boat, but if went of it's name then it should be a medium mech...
Function...it's a missile boat. It's going to be bland. I wasn't going for cool toys and the bells and whistles.
Load out...I went what fit for the tonnage I picked that allowed me to keep both speed and armor at the best settings.
What more can be done without repeating the mistakes of the FASA mechs in that we have okay mechs that major issues somewhere, which is fine, but not what I was going for. Better weapons...okay but again, does it really need MMLs? Bigger launchers, where am I going to get the weight and still keep it as part of the fight?
Bland it maybe but it has useages. _________________ Karagin Only the dead have seen the end of war. - Plato
