Okay I was wondering how many of you actually use C3 systems in your games?

If you do have they been to powerful or not? What kinds of make of the lance using the C3 have for weapons and speed?

Anything else you might want to toss in about the pros and cons of the C3 systems.

I have used them before.

If your using BV then they seem to stay pretty balanced versus non-C3 units.

the pros and cons are pretty straight forward and covered nicely by the rules. it comes down to this mostly: adv: great to-hit numbers in company sized games; dis adv: your giving up 1,5, or 10 tons of weapons for better to-hits.

as far as things go though, i think the biggest issue with C3 is how people typically play with it. Most tend to fall for the lets get slow heavy long range brawlers supported by a 30 ton 8/12/8 spotter who jump right beside the target. This is an ok tactic, but it is one that can quickly fail.

i find in my opinion that the best way to use C3 is to just play normal. this has the best effect at keeping your opponent off guard but still lets the system do its job.

oh, and obviously... C3i is the better way to go most of the time.

And as a last note, it is to be expected that in most cases that the units with C3 are POSs. They just gave no justice to most of these units.

ralgith and I have used C3 systems to varying effect. Sometimes it is a great help, especially when using some longer ranged units paired with closer ranged units. On the other hand it also has worked against us as we tried to get the proper unit in close only to have been flanked and our units in the wrong positions as we were too focused on the visible enemy unit(s). And of course we have seen it be a non-factor as well.

I used it occasionally, but in smaller units.

I used it a couple of time.
With a company size you can get the best from.
Just if your opponent create a company to stand against, probably he/she will carry some ECM.
Than you too choose some mechs who carry ECM
other than C3,cause in this way you can use ECCM.

This is true. What he speaks of is the 2 IS Merc Unit campaigns I ran. Both against Clan enemies, and both using 'mechs that are battlefield modified to include C3.

And his diagnosis of the way things turned out is also fairly accurate. Yes, its lovely when we have a lance of fast mediums and lights that got close as skirmishers and allowed the heavier 'mechs to open up with low to-hits while closing in. Great getting off the 3 gauss shots from the Thunderhawk with 5's at the enemy 'mechs... of course till the Star of Medium Omni's pops up behind the T-Hawk's Lance and pounces.

In other words, Vagabond said it quite succinctly. Don't try to use special tactics, because then you become too focused and you LOSE the tactical advantage otherwise gained. Even with C3, KEEP flankers, scouts, etc... Run your unit as normal and you should find that it does have a marked, even if small, improvement in performance. It is very bad when an IS company of good 'mechs gets thrashed by a binary of mediums simply because they got too strung out and were flanked. Sure... the Major *winks at Seraph* managed to win the day, but it was costly. And when the 3rd Star showed up and made it a trinary.... well yeah. You all know what hit the fan.

I used a C3 lance in a game, once upon a time, with mixed results.
My lance consisted of a pair of Owens Omnis and a Raptor providing data for a Naginata. At first, one of my opponents scoffed at C3, saying that it was a waste of time and space.

Then he made the mistake of wandering too close to one of my Owens.

My Naginata immediately pickled off all of its LRMs at Rich's Koshi. None of the salvos hit, but the look of sheer terror on Richards face was priceless.
Unfortunately, I lost my flank to a hard Clan attack at that point, and my C3 net crashed out before I could get any real results from the net.

Richard made damn sure he stayed as far as he could from that lance for the rest of the game. Mr. Green
