OVERVIEW
The Fireball, primarily intended to function as an anti-Elemental 'Mech, was found to have several design flaws, not the least of which the fact that none of its weapons could hurt an Elemental. Several variants equipped with Laser weapons were trialed, but these designs were hampered by the fact that the 'Mech had to close in to use them. This, more than anything else, was a major concern for pilots of the little 'Mech-in order to engage Elementals, they had to enter the range of the Elemental’s SRM pack to use its own Streak launcher, and in order to use the Machine Gun, they had to move close enough for the Elementals to use their own Small Lasers, Flamers, or Machine Guns. Ultimately, the Fireball was shifted from its primary purpose-Elemental hunting- to a recon role, where it could use its speed to best advantage. Unfortunately, the 'Mech’s reliance on ballistic weapons limited its usefulness on such missions, and the Fireball began to be assigned to garrison units away from the Clan lines. We at Corean Enterprises are not impressed with this, and are offering a new variant of the Fireball, equipped with new technologies, that will allow the 'Mech to return to its Elemental-hunting duties.
CAPABILITIES
As outlined above, the Fireball needed better-ranged weapons in order to effectively engage Elementals. Designers decided to use three ER Medium Lasers. Although all three must strike a single Elemental to kill it, these weapons have the ability to strike at Elementals from a range at which Elementals have no reply. In order to dissipate the tremendous heat ER weapons produce, we installed Double Heat Sinks.
The team also added MASC to the 'Mech, making it the fastest BattleMech ever deployed and allowing it to chase down Clan Dashers if the need arises.
Finally, we replaced the 'Mech’s standard armour plating with Ferro-Fibrous compounds. This allows the 'Mech to take more damage than its predecessor to survive. It should be noted, however, that the Fireball’s best protection is its blinding speed.
VARIANTS
We are prepared to offer a ‘Recon-Only’ package for the Fireball, designated the ALM-EW. This model removes the MASC, but adds an Active Probe, TAG Designator, and ECM Suite in lieu of weapons. It also uses only Standard Heat Sinks. Since it is totally unarmed, this 'Mech is best used on lightning passes across enemy positions, gathering data and then fleeing before detected.
DEPLOYMENT
These upgrade packages are ready to be shipped now. All Fireballs produced on New Avalon meet ALM-X specifications.
COST ANALYSIS
The basic ALM-X model costs 3,670,240 C-Bills, almost 600,000 more than the ALM-7D. This additional cost is directly attributable to the use of high-technology MASC, Ferro-Fibrous, and ER Lasers. However, this variant is much more combat-ready than the 7D. The ALM-EW model costs a comparable 3,586,240 C-Bills, but it must be noted that no current design possesses the speed and electronic warfare capabilities of this model.

MY BLURB
Ugh. The original Fireball was a mess. Who ever decided that Streak SRMs and Machine Guns “seemed well-suited to opposing Elementals” should be taken out and shot. The name, it seems, was sadly prophetic. The ALM-X model does almost 3 times as much damage, is more heavily armoured, and moves 25% faster. Were I unlucky enough to be assigned to a Fireball, I would pray that they gave me the ALM-X. The EW model was just built for fluff purposes. However, a dedicated Scout 'Mech is an intriguing prospect.

Not bad, but new refits from 3055 upgrades
aren't bad either. Both have a half ton more
armor and first removes SRMs for two MLs, while the second replaces the MG with a ML.
The areno match for this, but they can be made without sending the mech to factory.

As the weaponry of the original sucks i stripped it from my Fireball to simply put 4 medium lasers in!
I thought of it as a pre-ER-medium-laser design and so didn´t even put DHS's in.
To bring it in the 3060+ era you can take ER's and DHS's with ease!

The Fireball was always a decent mech, the weapons weren't impressive but I liked it since folks will write it off and ignore in battles at conventions and such.
