So, I'm planning to run a battletech campaign over megamek with some friends back in Missouri (I recently moved to Kentucky).

One of them is an old BT-er (who now lives in Wisconsin, I love megamek). One of them has played Mechwarrior once, and the other has never played at all.

So I came up with a campaign to introduce everyone to Battletech without needing them to read all the background of all the successor states.

The set-up: The FS and LA are attempting to secure the corridor connecting their houses. One strategic planet, Aix, is located on the border of Liao and Marik space, currently contested. Hoping to upset the FC's plans, Kurita offers to mediate the dispute over the control of Aix. The FC jumps to beat Kurita to the planet, they all arrive at the same time, and the result is a five way war on the planet.

Meanwhile, the Fourth Succession war heats up, and none of the Successor Houses can afford to send a full second wave to the planet, so all the forces on the ground are stuck there in a kind of no-man's land.

The players have access to any house they like. If they get really interested in Kurita politics, they can experience Kurita in a micro-cosm before getting off planet. Same with any other House. Mercenaries and Pirates can show up. There'll be plenty of people to run into, but there will be fewer big names to remember (since they're isolated, who really care's who Theodore Kurita is), and they don't need to worry about the status of the universe, just the one planet.

Once they've got a feel for the way the universe works, they can get off the planet and explore.

Thoughts?

I like it. I'm still trying to find my charts for random events and such that we used back when I did my 2 campaigns via this board. If I find them I'll be happy to share mate

These are the tables I used for such things as random happenings between actual fight scenarios we played in MegaMek. You should remember all the little stuff I did.

Anyways, I have charts that have random occurences such as pilot illnesses, pirate attacks... etc etc...
