I must agree on both accounts. I couldn't hit squat most of the time either, but I still had a fun time. Need to have another one sometime. Hopefully we won't have to have another 4 year gap inbetween.

Who won Tombstone?

Tom & Ray, who had the biggest mechs on the field, an Annihilator and an Orion, decided to wait things out in the corner right next to each other, while everyone else went about beating each other up until finally everyone decided to just go after Tom & Ray which at that point still were not touched while everyone else had at least some damage. I was fairly undamaged myself when we charged in, but ended up getting head capped in the first volley. They eventually had to turn on each other after they killed everyone. I think Tom had taken most of the damage and was almost out of ammo at that point though.

Oh.. it got even better after everyone had left for home!

After destroying everyone except Mike in his WarHammer, Ray bushwacked me by attaching a NARC pod on my torso. Wrongly assuming that I would let such a subtle betrayal go unanswered, he took the brunt of my four AC/10s and four medium lasers for a few rounds while my "brave" brother hid prone behind a hill. Although I was nearly out of ammo (down to only two shots) I had beaten him up pretty good when we both ended up at point blank range with a hill providing partial cover right between us. I nailed him with an AC/10 and a medium laser but couldn't get his head. He hit me with a fricken cluster round with his LB/10X four six shots. "No problem" I said to myself. I only had one head hit from a previous cluster round - " I have plenty of armor on my head." Well, Mr. "can't hit a dropship" in all his previous battles, rolls Yatzee and nails me with 5 - 1 point shots to the head, pulping my pilot, even though he never got through the head armor. Not only did he destroy me but he won the "Smack Down" award as well, despite my protests that it should be renamed the "Plink Down" award!

After my demise, the Orion and WarHammer went toe-to-toe for several rounds. After Mike lost one of his arms, I figured Ray had the game in the bag. But Mike pulled out the victory by hitting one of Ray's nearly depleted ammo bins. There wasn't enough ammo to destroy the Orion, but the case went off, taking out Ray's XL engine. I figured it was poetic justice, since Mike hadn't one anything else the whole dayjavascript:emoticon('Very Happy')

BTW, I had a great time! Thanks to everyone who came and played their hearts out!

A special thanks to Mike for hosting the affair and letting us keep our drinks in his shower! (don't ask)

The look on my wife's face when I told her the drinks were in the shower was priceless

Well that was fun! I would really like to thank Firebee, Chihawk, Wrangler, Shadowking, Macross, MOB, and especially Hardware (5 hr trip from Delaware) for such a fun day of BattleTech. My face was so sore on Sunday from all the smiling and laughing on Saturday! A special thanks to my wife, who took the kids on a field trip, and helped to make this day come together.

The event winners were:
Wrangler for “Dragon’s Fury: Smoke and Fire”
Shadowking for “4th Succession War: Davion vs. Liao”
Davion (Horhiro/Shadowking/Wrangler/MOB) won 4 games to 2 vs. Liao (Firebee/Chihawk/Macross/Hardware)
Horhiro for “Tombstone” Piloting a Warhammer 6-D

Special Awards for “Best Smackdown” eeerrrrr “smacked-down” went to MOB (pinch-pinch) for getting swatted by Firebee after endless taunting. And truly “Best-Smackdown” to Hardware for his yatzee roll of 5 6’s on the head chart with a LBX10, to splash Firebee all over the inside of his cockpit! I had another special award for “Worst dice rolling luck”, but failed to give it out before everyone left. Participants are free to post their thoughts on who was most deserving.

Although many rules were contested, a few unholy alliances were formed, and it started to rain VERY heavily just as I went outside to grill; I would have to say the con went very smoothly. Macross learned that the Blackjack’s lower BV was not worth the loss of firepower, most everyone learned that Wrangler’s Yenlowang AC20 Centurion was a formidable foe against medium mechs, and I learned that c3/c3i battles can be drawn-out, especially when they are 3-way and all the participants (except me) are playing very defensively.

Pics will be available soon.

Oh, and a next year’s HorhiroCon III: CHEESE PUFFS WILL BE BANNED! –“nuff said”

I was 2-1 for the losers...I think I'll declare my free agency for next year

I would like to point out that while I was 1-2, I never lost my 'Mech! This despite the fact that I was the only one with balls enough to take a 40 tonner, and the fact that I ended up facing the AC/20 centurion EVERY BATTLE! (Thanks Mike!) I think the only 'Mech during the day that took more damage than my poor Whitworth without dying was that darn Crab (pinch! pinch!) I had to destroy every last internal structure on the thing before it died! It was like some 'Mech Zombie or something!

Honestly though, if Ray and I hadn't screwed up the rules the first battle and allowed Hardware to get hatcheted while he was on the ground, I think we would have won that battle and it would have been a 3-3 tie.

Anyway, we all know what propogandists those Davions are; Liao really won, but the truth will never be told

So he'd have been kicked instead...same damage and one easier to be hit.

Well this is how all the players did: win-loss

Davion:
Horhiro Hunchback- 4J 3-0
Shadowking Hunchback -4J 2-1
Wrangler Centurion YLW 2-1
MOB Enforcer-4R 1-2

Liao
chihawk Hunchback-4P 2-1
Firebee Whitworth-1S 1-2
Hardware Centurion-9A 1-2
Macross Blackjack-BJ1 0-3

The pairings in the first round got messed up so that's why Wrangler and Firebee wound up playing each other in all the battles, as did Horhiro and Macross. Sorry, I'm only human! In actuality, Horhiro/MOB were supposed to play Firebee/Hardware in round 1.

Round 1:
Horhiro/MOB beat chihawk/Macross
Wrangler/Shadowking beat Firebee/Hardware

Round 2:
Horhiro/Wrangler beat Firebee/Macross
Mob/Shadowking lost to chihawk/Hardware

Round 3:
Horhiro/Shadowking beat Hardware/Macross
Mob/Wrangler lost to Firebee/Chihawk

As I recall, Firebee took the low BV whitworth in order to get a zero pilot..........

Unless Hardware was in Wrangler's Right Arm arc and not his front arc. If that was the case he couldn't have kicked him, nor should he have been able to hatchet him as Hardware was prone.

Correct...I didn't see the exact situation, but knowing the quality of player with the hatchet I doubt he'd get to an adjacent side arc.

Wait, I have that backwards...it's Hardware that would have gotten to HIS side arc.

Very possible...

So what's your point? As a result of my skillful design choice, I never failed a piloting skill roll (usually the bane of my existence) in any of the three combats !

My little Whitworth even took two (or was it three?) AC/20 shots in the first battle and was still kicking (albeit minus some parts!)

All I have to say is at least I had a real Liao 'Mech and Death Commano attitude, unlike certain other players who chose "Swayback" hunchbacks - sounds like some gay Parisian bellringer
