As you've prolly noticed I haven't been around for awhile (and if you haven't noticed..forget you )

I have been beta testing a new idea for a battletech scenario based on the Harry Potter series game of Quidditch. For those who don't know what Quidditch is. Wikipedia as a great artical on the game.

The basics of btech-Qed (as I have come to call it)
is simple. There are two teams. 7 mechs on each side. (the team leader decides what mechs and what position they play) They play in open terrain on a map 24 by 32 hexes. Each end of he field is covered in rubble and has three hexes that are at level 2, 4, 8, at the top of each of these hexes is a building and each has a diffrent score value. The object of this game is three members on each team (the chasers) try to tag one of these hexes with a clan lite TAG (that all chasers get as free equipment ) while trying keeping the other team for doing the same. sounds simple huh?...not. Because of two wheeled lvl 3 tanks that roam the field at high speeds running into and fireing clan ERPPCs at anything within lite tag range. To end the game the seeker must find and destroy a fast moving jump capable hovercraft (Lvl 3 of course) earning the side that nail it 10 points and ending the game

There are far more detailed rules. and I have ran 4 diffrent games. 2 in real life. 2 by email. so far all the beta testers love it and keep wanting to play. So in the next week or so I would like to expand the beta testers to more experanced players to better fine tune the game.

So. if you like to try this unique verison of battletech (btech-Qed) let me know. I need new blood for a more insightful improvements to the game

The game will be by email. and a map will be available on a website (thank you Mordel for the BME)

Feel free to ask any questions

Ok, when you say team leaders decide the mechs is this from any of the offical mechs or from a limited list?

Are the teams limited by weight, cost, or BV?

Are the positions limited by weight?

Do the chasers decide where the lite tag is located?

Can the teams fire on each other?

Are these 'bludger' tanks designed to offical rules or do they bend the rules?

Can you shoot a 'bludger' tank?

When you say within tag range, do you mean of the buildings or of the tank?

Does the jump capable hovercraft suffer from the possible crits for jumping? [i could be remembering this rule wrong]

do these vehicles suffer the movement crits and effects?

Why a hover craft and not a VTOL?

What are the point scores for tag'ing a building?

Can you shoot the buildings with anything other then the tag?

Can you use a tag equiped mech to tag the buildings?

all i can think of atm.

Excellent questions Vaggie. allow me to answer

They can pick any mech offical Btech universe

Not limted by anything

No. your choice

No. the TAG is located in each arm

yes by all means, it's half the fun of the game

they are custom made tanks that follow normal movement rules. no bending, although that may change, still working on it

You bet, that's what the beaters do. when you hit one. in goes in the oppsite direction of the hit. that way you can send to the other team to mess them up

the tanks fire when you are in their tag range

NO

Becasue I didn't think of it. but I like the idea

depends on the level. starting at 1 point for the lowest, and 3 for the highest

You can. it won't any good. but you are allowed

yes. that's how you score. as long as that mech was assisgned the chaser position.

Ok, so if i choose a chaser with a normal TAG unit i can use its TAG to score points. Meaning i would get a range advantage of 15 versus the oppositions 9, correct?

If the above is true, do the bludger tanks attack said chasers at 15 hexes or 9 hexes?

Is their a half-court rule that forces a teams chasers to return to a set distance before they can attempt to score again?

no. would have to use the lite TAG, I tried the reg TAG. scoreing was far to easy

9 hexes.

still working on that, so far the answer is yes. But with addtion of rubble and movieng the scoreing zones. it may have taken care of the rescoring so easily

some slight adjustments

Now only the keep and chasers will have tags. the seekers and beaters will not.

I tried a VOTL instead of a hovercraft. the results where about the same. you need a excellent pilot to track down and hit the snitch. so we may be adding the VTOL in the near future.

Instead of rubble. there is no lvl 1 water at the end of each feild.

And now mechs block LOS. this was hotly debated by all beta testers. But it does add a extra demision to the game that I think it needed.

Now only the seeker can fire at the snitch

IF anybody else has any ideas. feel free to add them in. Vaggbonds VTOL idea was widely accepted by the betas. and so far it's worked out pretty well.

The most interesting part about the game. is the amount of time it takes to play. it could be as long as 6 hours. or as short as 10 mintues. The biggest cheese factor thus far has been team captains telling the entire team to fire at the snitch and forget about scoring. which the works most of the time since it takes at least 4 hits on the highest score zone to beat the points nailing the snitch gives the team. we'll see how limiting to where only seekers can fire at it works.

Not that I have time to try anything extensively

you know. I was asked that question by all 17 beta testers. I asnwered them with a question (how rude of me)...do you know how to play areotech?..no? Nethier do I.

but it would make sense though. maybe when I get the rules nailed down. I'll try to adjust for aerotech

Instead of Aerotech, use LAM's in Guardian mode... it would produce some interesting games.

Another question would be using some vehicles in mixed force turning catchers or whole team to VTOLs (probably under lvl 3 rules to prevent loosing them easily) this would probably require increasing the size of the field, but restricting the access to surrounding areas only to the snitch and the catchers.

And to make the snitch a little bit more nasty - what about jet boosters (safe supercharger for VTOL)
