The first point he's got is that its a strange mech. It is, its a refit for a mimalist house unit. Its an anti air craft mech. Compared to say the Rifleman and Jaggermech which are the only two mechs that even vaguely fit its niche. Its pretty good. It suffers neither of they're vulernabilities and it jumps.
So what are you comparing this anti air craft mech to? Is it not fast enough to be recon? Is it also not heavy enough to fight assault mechs? Is it also not meant for mech on mech fights?
I'm just wondering why it got a bad rating, when the two comparible anti air craft designs are less manuverable and have no armour.
I realise in some respects I'm dredging up something old, but I'm not quite the massive poster I used to be. And I want peoples opinions.

I think the problem is, that it is called a Grasshopper! Most people try to stay near the original mission profile when they modify a mech. If you modify a Rifleman or a JagerMech a similar way you would get a better rating!

He noticed, and he also knows that Partisans can't go everywhere.

Jumping is nice, I don't think that it's vital for it's role of AA mech, but I understand the reason for installation, or more accurately the reason for not removing them

I'm not complaining about the lack of speed, actually it's maneuverability is above average and armor is among the best.
Weapons suite is... not that good (personal opinion - average). AC/2s are enough to deal with VTOLs, but most fighters are almost impervious under AT 2 rules. Lasers will see a lot of use, I would be more happy with more of them instead of streak SRMs, but it's your mech.

Who says that they are going to get high rating
2 is just slightly sub-average. I must admit that I would give it 2.5, if I was in better mood , but as Rudel already mentioned, I like GHR as it is.

Last I saw Fighters and V-tols had the same construction rules, which means any hit has the chance of disabling the craft. Did this change since the last rule set?
Grasshopper's stock config I love 100% more than this one honestly. I just needed a good AA mech to cover my forces and they move 4/6/4 so I didn't see a reason not to let them move with the rest of my mech force in that campaign. Course to some extent it suffers from corner case existance like my Whitworth with C3 Master.

Aerospace fighter may suffer a critical hit only if the damage dealt is higher than was the original amount of armor in location /10, so AC/2 can damage only fighters with less than 20 pts of armor. Heavier fighters are just going to fly around and laugh
Fortunately conventional fighters are not allowed to carry a lot of armor and VTOLs use the same rules as vehicles.

Time to change that design and give it AC 5s, Since anything smaller than an Assault Aerospace unit is going to be hurting. Thanks for that tip, can't believe i over looked something that simple.

Actually UAC/5s would be quite common salvage soon after 3050 and comparing it to Jagermechs (especially those XL engined upgrades) ...
Under AT 2 rules the UAC/5 deals 7 damage, most fighters won't like that
