What is the largest calibre round that a bull-pup configuration rifle can handle?
I had the idea to create a large calibre bull-pup sniper rifle, but the only modern example I was able to find was the Walther WA2000.
http://world.guns.ru/sniper/sn15-e.htm
According to the entry, the WA2000 came in either .300 or 7.62mm.

Theoretically? Any calibre.
Bullpup configuration only means that the ammunition (and the components that move it into the barrel, fire it, and eject the casing) are moved to the very rear of the weapon.

Realisticly, a bullpup can be any size munition, russians have a 35mm Bullpup granade launcher, yes, it's sick... but it just means that the barrel is used in more of a percentage of the weapon than would normaly occur.
.. as Warhammer said..

The idea I had is for a sniper rifle that is heavy enough to threaten battle armor yet is light enough so that one person can handle it. As such, I'm thinking that it would have to be .50 or thereabouts.

Anti-battle armor ballistic weapons... from what i understand, Toads are rather impervious to small arms fire; even larger caliburs. Anti-Toad rifle sounds kewl, but you would have to figure out how it would get past the four layers of armor the battlesuit has inherrently; say a .62cal Boat-tailed Titanium-tungston alloy Sabot with a semi-jacketed shell?

The rifle would mostly be used against Inner Sphere battle amor.

Toads and IS armors have virtually the same defensive armor. An abstracted Battletech point here or there is the primary difference.

Not a rifle. Gauss weapons are smoothbore guns.

I know, but they work
Otherwise portable anti-tank rifles already exist. We just need to know if they would work well against BA.

Sleeping Dragon has a point... if it can Violate a Tank's armor belt, battlesuits should be less protected.

You forget Battletech's MagicArmor. Conventional weapons that would give a vehicle decent trouble today (like Recoilless Rifles) barely even annoy battlemechs and other armored vehicles.

Hmm, maybe making them something like AP ammo against mech. they would have a chance to get through with good hit... something like roll 2d6 (for whole unit (squad?) with anti-BA rifles) on 11+ kill the trooper inside? Rolling for entire platoon would be boring so decreasing the number needed to kill would be the way, so 9+ for 28-15 troops, 11+ for less?
