Hey guys,
Not sure if you have heard, but Electric Entertainment has leased the rights to a Mechwarrior movie but they are currently having problems getting the movie into development. Anyway, to keep it short, an independant producer is trying to get some steam behind the project and is asking for fans to sign his petition so he present it with a small movie clip to Paramount to get financing into the movie.
Heres the link so you can read more about it: http://www.mechwarriormovie.com/.

I'd rather not. Movies based on VIDEO games are terrible (or rather, utter crap). A movie based on a TABLETOP game is almost certain to suck.

Now now now wait a second. They wont do that to this movie. I mean comon, there is no way hollywood would once again take an amazing concept and tell it to grab its ankles. They know we are all mindless 12 year olds that would rather see Jessica Simpson walk around then an decent well thought out, creative and fun movie.
I am sure if it does get made the community will be up in arms, unless Devlin is a mastermind and dosent let hollywood push him around into adding all of the stupid unnessessary crap the have to shove into every other scifi movie that ISNT Star Wars or Star Trek.
Sorry if that sounds bitter, but I really dont have alot of hopes for this movie. I fear it will be Robot Jox all over again.
(on a side note: I REALLY REALLY REALLY REALLY HOPE I AM WRONG, I WOULD LOVE TO SEE A MECHWARRIOR MOVIE THAT HOLDS TRUE TO THE UNIVERSE.)

Well, look at this:
Quote:

form WizKids forum (link)
“The film, in many ways, will be a coming of age story,” said Jordan Weisman, WizKids CEO. “It’s set 40 years after the ’Mech wars have ended, and introduces a group of young heroes in their early 20s who have grown up in peaceful and prosperous times.” Weisman said the sci-fi universe he created 20 years ago was heavily influenced by the relationships that World War II pilots developed with the fighter planes they flew. The movie will focus on The Republic, a melting pot of people similar to the United States, and how factions in The Republic and forces outside of it are hoping to restart the ’Mech wars of old.

... DA movie
[rant]
from universe that wasn't created 20 years ago and with characters that are so unlike any mechwarrior groups I remember (okay I'm 21, but warriors can anywhere between 17 to 60). Pilots are rare, well not so rare, but must be highly talented to earn the right to sit in the cockpit and mechs are even more rare in DA (deml... *phew* ... demipl ... demilitarization of BT universe, who introduced this, eh?). So unit of characters of the same age? I thought that warriors are assigned to existing units to make up for looses. I just hope someone who KNOWS the universe will watch the creation. Unless I would encounter something like "There are two states the Inner Sphere and the Clans ..." (no kidding, that's from one review for Mechcommander game).

I'll hold my judgment.
A big part of me would like to see a good-old-fashioned Knight-of-Battlemechs smash fest with political intrigue et cetera.
Might I suggest, though, that the plot outline for the movie isn't that outragous.
[optimism]
20 years after the end of the 4th Succession War is just before the Clan invasion. The Republic could be any of the new governments formed in the aftermath, from St. Ives to Rasalhague. After the 4th succession war, several states went to merit based professional militaries (FC, Kurita, FRR) because they had the production ability and the didn't have the nobles, having killed them all in various prior wars.
And the members of these new republics and old houses were often trying to restart the 4th Succession War to grab land.
And what ends this is the Clan invasion (gosh, think about the Twist ending on this movie and the set-up for the sequal!).
[/optimism]

OK, reread the summary.
40 years after the mechwars have ended.

With any luck, that will change during the many rewrites that often happen with moives. Once they learn that most fans follow the orginal story line. They may change
Hey, it could happen (yeah right )

Great so let me guess they will remake the horrible D and D movie just replace everything with mechs. May the God's of good taste slap them into submission.

I am going hold out the hope (However small and insignifigant) that it will be good, but just like the DnD movie it will most likely be a commercial flop.

American Pie, or what?!? I hope that the target of this movie isn't to propagate the game to the widest posible target group.

Peaceful and prosperous times? Prosperous, maybe (I heard that the Republic of the Sphere ad some success in rebuilding after Jihad and is thought of as new Star League), but when something like peaceful times took place in BT universe? I hope that's just relative term, because the deml... not again... demilitarization was mainly about reducing the number of mechs. And I think that I heard that house Liao resisted being absorbed (partially?) to the Republic.

Okay, something may be close to BTech reality

Hoping to restart? Any house lord wanting to start war can make pact with few "friends" around and launch an invasion. Stir the pirates to raid the opposing houses. Support underground movemets and myriad of other things, but unless the other lords REALLY WANT the peace (*cough*) than starting the war is matter of months. After forty years of (relative?) peace the lords have probably everything they need for complete reconstruction to pre Jihad levels, especially if there is central organisation that has money and is willing to invest them. So hoping is somewhat strange term.
So I'm going to join The Club of Unbreakable Optimists and hope for the best.
Okay, what about making the Grey Death trilogy to movie, eh?

Or just start with the Return of Kerensky. It has every thing you would need. Action, well written story, and some more action.

Advent Children this is not. OF COURSE it's supposed to have mass-market appeal. Why else would any movie be worth making?

I for one am optimistic... sorta... it could be a GREAT movie IF they keep Weisman OUT, from his comments he has seen the movie as a movie to support DA, not a possible great addition to a Universe already complimented be great novels and a number of great games.
I doubt this will be taken well but I for one think Malicious Intent would make a GREAT movie, it has all the right peices, a wonderful high paced story, action, everything! Not to mention that given where it come in within the time-line it would fit much like Episode IV leaving people new to the universe with a LOT of questions that won't be answered right away.
