Unit History
The 23rd Dragoon Cavalry was commissioned within the borders of the Federated Suns in the latter part of the 2990s, initially designated as a medium tank battalion destined for combat against the Draconis Combine. It wetted its teeth against elements of the Draconis Combine Military in the early part of the First Succession War engaging the dragons on the border world of Skat; coincidentally the same planet the unit was recruited from and commissioned. When several companies of DCMS vehicles attempted to move on the capital city, elements of the Fourth Tank (Now Panzer) Company and Second Tank (Now Panzer) Company set up ambush positions and choke points, using the hilly crags and dense forest as cover for the tank lances. When the dragons rolled through, the tanks opened fire on the rear of the advancing vehicles. The ambushers of the 23rd Dragoon Cavalry destroyed at least seven lances. After several weeks hard fighting, the DCMS were pushed off planet and the Dragoon Cavalry was rotated to the Capellan border, where they would spend the rest of the First Succession War.
When the Second Succession War erupted into blows, Capellan raiders tried to move on the planet of Frazer, the 23rd Dragoons again relied on unconventional tactics to use their light and medium tanks to defeat and route larger units using heavier vehicles and even battlemechs. The Raiders were pushed back, and the Dragoon Cavalry followed on their heels on orders to advance along with the rest of the garrison units on Frazer. They were the spearhead of the assault, making planet fall on as many as nine planets, battling and winning against innumerable Capellan forces. With the end of the Second Succession War, the 23rd Dragoon Cavalry was upgraded to better vehicles and the addition of an artillery lance and several Partisan Anti-Aircraft tanks to deal with enemy fighters.
Again, the 23rd Dragoon Cavalry was called into action with the beginning of the Third Succession War. They served again in the Capellan March, holding positions and taking them with a vengeance. They were dropped on to the Capellan world of Xieng Khouang as the screeners for a pair of regiments planning to make planet fall in the next week. The 23rd Dragoon Cavalry succeeded not only in holding the landing zones, but moving on several Capellan foreword outposts and securing several ammo dumps, giving the landing mechs added support. The unit received several citations and many medals were awarded to the men of this battalion by this time, making them one of the most decorated units in the Federated Suns. The Fourth Succession War also went well for the 23rd Dragoon Cavalry, as they served with distinction again on the Capellan border.
In 3050, the Clans began the massive invasion of the Inner Sphere. They penetrated deep into the borders of both the Lyran Alliance and the Draconis Combine. Even though the Clans were making a successful campaign, Comstar and their Comguard units stopped them at Tukkayid. When a council of the Great Houses took place in the late 3050s, the Federated Suns committed the 23rd Dragoon Cavalry to the planned invasion of the Clan home worlds by the Exodus Road, a pair of operations called Serpent and Bulldog. The 23rd Dragoon Cavalry dropped on to Huntress with the rest of the re-made SLDF forces. Huntress was quickly overwhelmed and declared neutralized. However the action was not finished. The 23rd Dragoon Cavalry advanced with the majority of the SLDF to Strana Mechty, where the deciding battle against the Clans was fought. They returned to the Inner Sphere, just in time for the deciding moment in the history of the battalion.
The FedCom Civil War caused a massive schism in the Inner Sphere, and especially for this unit. With the upheavals caused by units joining different factions, sister unit was battling against sister unit, with brother against brother. The 23rd Dragoon Cavalry had to decide and quick. With most favoring the Lyran Alliance, the unit joined Archon Katrina Steiner and the loyalist forces. The 23rd Dragoon Cavalry was assigned to Eaton, a planet having many rebellions by this point. They managed to put down two rebellions by separatist forces and overthrow the separatist governor. They then were dispatched to Halloran IV under orders to hunt down and destroy any units of the Federated Suns that they encountered. The destroyed no less than two lances of medium mechs and nearly six companies of light vehicles and infantry. They put down these units and left Halloran IV, bound for New Exford, and the Clan Jade Falcon border, where they stayed for the rest of the FedCom Civil War.
On New Exford they executed base defense and perimeter patrol leaving the battlemechs the mission of hunting down the Jade Falcons on the jungle world. Three times, they repulsed advancing Jade Falcon forces. After New Exford, the unit elected to separate from the bulk of the Lyran Alliance and become a mercenary group. Although the Lyrans did not like to lose such a decorated battalion, they agreed under the terms that the 23rd Dragoon Cavalry would serve the Alliance for four months out of every year on the Clan border. The Battalion CO agreed to this, and they unit became the mercenary battalion it is today. Recently the Eridani Light Horse has taken the battalion under their wing, helping the battalion to adjust to the mercenary way. When not on the Clan border, the 23rd Dragoon Cavalry sub-contracts with the Eridani Light Horse or joins them on their missions, providing excellent mech and infantry support.

Good work! Seems that they have battled nearly across all human space!
But i must state a single piece of critic:
In all the wars they never were defeated or even substantially reduced!
I think its hard to find such a unit anywhere in the IS or even the clans!

I would have to agree with Rudel Gurken. A few defeats here and there wouyld make it a little more real. Heck, even the Gray Death got whooped a few times.
