Was looking at 3 of my favorite looking mechs from the 3050 TRO. So here they are, hope you like them, as always feedback is always appreciated. Now this is how I would have designed them for the 3050 TRO. They would get changes later on. Most of the changes include improvements to armor and firepower. As I believe that if they get an XL the get full to no less than 90% armor coverage.
First up we have the Griffin a Mech that is just screaming for a proper upgrade. I didnt fiddle with much but I did increase the firepower and give it better inclose protection.

==Overview:==
Designed as a multi-role 'Mech, the original Shadow Hawk exceeded even
the designers' wildest expectations. Serving all house militaries, including
the Star League army, this medium BattleMech used its impressive array of
firepower with devastating effect. The Shadow Hawk was as adept at serving in
a heavy lance as it is in a recon lance. Given both its track record and
popularity, the push to redesign this venerable BattleMech was only natural.

Last is the Wolverine. A mech I have never really spent much time with because I have never liked the weapons load out. Granted this isnt perfect but I like it much more than the original listed in the 3050 TRO.

==Overview:==
The Fourth Succession War gave, and the Fourth Succession War took away.
The Federated Suns captured the Capellan Wolverine factory on Nanking but lost
its own Wolverine factory on Marduk to the Draconis Combine. The larger
Kallon Industries assembly line left House Davion with a net gain and left
House Liao as the only loser. The WVR-7D model emerging from the Nanking
facility represents excellent use of recovered technology.
The weight savings of XL engine technology is put to good use upgrading
weapons, heat sinks, and protection. A General Motors Nova-5 Autocannon
replaces the older Whirlwind model, and a Sutel Precision Line Medium Pulse
Laser takes the place of the Magna model. Designers are adding a heat sink
and using Kallon Unity Weave Ferro-Fibrous Armor. An extra half-ton of armor
and the use of Ferro-Fibrous material improve protection greatly, mostly on
the legs and center torso. Cellular Ammunition Storage Equipment shields the
autocannon shells and missile reloads, and Myomer Acceleration Signal
Circuitry provides emergency speed for sticky situations.
At the Norse BattleMech Works on Marduk, the Draconis Combine is
producing a very different version. It lacks MASC and CASE but makes use of
double heat sinks, eliminating concerns about heat buildup. A Victory
Drumbeat Large Pulse Laser replaces the autocannon, and a Victory Throb Small
Pulse Laser is added. Also added is a second Telos-6 Short-Range Missile
Delivery System. Adding a ton-and-a-half of armor compensates for the lack of
Ferro-Fibrous material.
The Free Worlds League is also nearing production of its own WVR-7M at
Kallon Industries on Thermopolis and Free Worlds Defence Industries on Gibson.
This model is much closer to the original WVR-6R than it is to either the
Davion or Kurita version. It keeps the original armor and lacks CASE. It
also keeps the original twelve heat sinks but uses double-strength ones. The
extra-light engine allows use of MASC and a new weapons configuration. Two
Diverse Optics Sunbeam Extended-Range Large Lasers replace the autocannon, and
two Magna 400P Medium Pulse Lasers replace the single older model.

Nice ones. They keep the sense of the 'Mech, while upgrading everything.
My only complaint is with the Griffin: I dislike small lasers in place of mediums, and it would likely be better off with one point less armor. You could even use that new half ton for a small laser.

I have a sense for the term "min-max," but I don't see it in these. Could you elaborate, please?

The main weapons, in this case being PPCs give better damage to range then the older model ACs that the mechs had, that alone allows them to gain a huge edge over their older cousins mixing that with the new tech they gain even more.
The damage factors change, where as for example the old model S-Hawk did a mere 19 points of damage and had some heat issues this model has on a quick scan of the weapons an average of 21 points. That is a major improvement over the older models and lends to the min-max of weapons.
Same can be said on the Wolverine which again loses the old AC for oh wait a PPC. Again with the tech to use it and again with the better damage profile then before.
So really why would anyone want to use the 3050 model when these do a lot better by a factor 1.5?

I tend to go with PPC/ERPPC's simply because I hate ammo. And only really use ammo on secondary weapons, such as SRM's and the occasinal LRM. I think for the tonnage that the AC5, Uac5, and LB5X come in at they are to bulky and to innefficent to be much use. I usually only go with Ac10+ if I use an AC at all. That and being a merc, I tend to shy away from lots of ammo simply because of cost. Though the PPC may cost more initially (200K, 300K for ER) it is less in the long run than any of the AC5 series (125K + 4500 per ton, 250K + 9K for LBX, 200K + 9K for Uac, 275K + 12K for RAC5) because it dosent require ammo. As far as LRM systems go I generally tend to stay away from the 20 rack simply because it is also imo inefficent, the LRM 15 will give you a much better damage spread for a longer duration. The LRM 15 is really the only LRM system that I will use (NOTE: I have used ALL of the LRM systems in my designs, BUT I usually start the design with a LRM 15 rack, if I cant get the desired result with the 15, I will change it to something smaller).
Wasnt even aware of the "min-max" thing till just now. /shrug
