Fair enough.

I just had my wisdom teeth out (yesterday, no less), so it's not like BTech is my main concern at this moment. One of the sockets took its dear sweet time to clot, so I had to spend the night sitting up to keep myself from choking either on the blood or the gauze; I posted this little bit (among others) to take my mind off of things.

My main problem is that I have a major overbite (I'd say an inch or so). Between my overbite and the fact that my bottom two wisdom teeth were impacted (33 and 45 degrees, respectively) the guy had a bit of a time with them. Finally, he had to take a drill to them both in order to get them segmented so that he could take the segments out individually.

I will tell you now to have someone accompany you on the day you go, as you will be rather low once they are out and will need someone to drive you around. With a local, you're talking one or two shots of anastetic per tooth; gas is just like being gassed for surgery. And despite what you are told, don't drink any hot liquids for the first day or so until your clots are in place (which was my problem - I was told I could have soup); even your tea has to be cold. And yes, you will find yourself drinking a lot of tea as the tannic acid works perfectly to cauterize your sockets.

I would suggest stocking up on pudding, yogurt, multi-vitamins, ice cream, liquids and the like as you won't really be able to do anything solid for a while. I would also recommend keeping plenty of gauze pads and facial tissue handy to deal with the sockets weeping.

Also, be careful with the meds that you are prescribed In addition to an anti-biotic, you can expect at least two painkillers: Motrin (or something similar) for the more mundane pains, and Vicodin or something similar for the more extreme pains. And remember, no matter how short of a span between the extraction and the follow-up, it is important to let the dentist know if you think something bad is happening to you.

Thanks for the advice, I will keep it in mind when my operation is scheduled. I had an overbite as well, but I had braces that corrected that.

I'm not 100% sure, but I think my lower sockets may have been sutured (I had lost most of the feeling by that time). Said sockets are starting to feel like they're becoming increasingly more dry. If this keeps up, I may have to call them to see if I actually did get sutured; if not, then I may be starting into dry sockets.

I had all four of my wisdom teeth pulled by an Army dentist a few years back. They pumped me full of drugs, I fell asleep, and when I woke up I had bruises on my chest, but I was happy. I didn't see what the big deal was... until the drugs started to wear off, and life began to suck.

What was even worse, is that he left chunks off tooth in one of the holes, so I had to go back twice to get more dug out.

Ah, that's the problem with military bonesaws, they try to get you back out as quickly as possible. The civilians work much better.

What's this talk about drugs? When I got mine out, I was told to take extra-strength Advil for a few days, and that was it. Use ibuproffen (Motrin, Advil, etc). As an anti-inflamatory, it keeps the swelling down.

I was on tylenol when I was out... the Army was too cheap to buy me T3s. It sucked.
