Simply put, a minor noble has come to inspect the party's unit, and the party has been tasked with watching the guy's 10-year-old son for the day.
Catch? He's got a 6 Intelligence, and has a +1 bonus in both strategy (if I have them in a Davion unit, he'll also have Natural Aptitude in this skill) and computers. This means that there's a good chance he may actually be smarter than one or two of the characters if they decided to create themselves generic grunt types. He also has a 6 in Edge, meaning that any attempts to "keep him occupied" might not work.....
"Figured out how to keep that kid busy."
"How?"
"Set him down in a mech sim and told him that if he beat the mission I'd give him 20 creds and a trip to the toy store."
"What's the mission?"
"He's got to take out a lance of heavies. With a Wasp."
[Kid comes toddling in.] "Beat it."
"Show me."
"Here." [kid pulls up footage on the display.]
"He beat it."
"Whoa."
